The shriek of enchantresses became louder, jolting Avery out of her reverie. She looked at Lucas, Damien, and Jess in turn, and saw horror and treason reflected back at her.
"We need to move. "Now," Avery said, her voice firm despite the ferment outside.
Damien scarfed. "And why should we listen to you? For all we know, you might be leading us into a trap."
"Because right now, I am your stylish chance at surviving this mess," Avery answered in return. "You can detest me latterly, but if we do not leave now, we are all going down."
Lucas jounced grimly." She's correct. Let's go.
They left the storeroom as police buses raced past. Avery guided them through a maze of back streets, her homicide instincts guiding them out. The group traveled in hushed stillness, the weight of suggested words hanging heavily between them.
