Synopsis
Lothair is a serial killer who detest imperfection on human’s facial features, which resulted in him having a compulsory behavior of wanting to strip people’s faces.
After he dies, he finds himself as Narcissus, a beautiful and adorable female NPC inside a state-of-the-art VRMMO world of the latest craze called Fallen Carcosa Online.
But despite being a fantasy-filled game, the world feels strangely realistic.
Too realistic, even.
Game-like systems and magic exist but so do plagues, politics, economy, and the horror hidden in plain sight.
When pried open, an actual human-like anatomy can be seen beyond the skin of the NPC’s face—with little to no censor.
Everything feels too immersive.
Except Narcissus, Lothair’s new identity.
When Narcissus tried to scrape off the face of her new adorable body, she found an abyssal void with little to no end.
This story marks the birth for the King in Yellow.

Write a reviewThe story follows a brutal and calculating protagonist, Narcissus, as she embarks on a journey of survival and discovery within the strange and unforgiving VRMMO world of Fallen Carcosa Online—two months before the game’s official release. Armed with nothing but her wits, dexterity, and a simple stick, Narcissus must navigate a world filled with unknown horrors, where surviving even a single day is no small feat. During this crucial preparation period, Narcissus learns first-hand that the world of Carcosa is anything but ordinary. The game world is teeming with monstrous creatures of unknown origins, Faustian entities offering dangerous bargains, and god-like beings of chaos capable of altering reality itself—if certain dark criteria are met. These horrors, lurking especially during the night of the Ordeal, make every move a life-or-death decision. But survival isn’t the only theme of this story. Narcissus herself carries a multitude of untold secrets, and the narrative delves deep into her psyche, offering a rich, introspective exploration of her character. The psychological depth of Narcissus is what makes her a truly multi-dimensional protagonist, one whose complexity enhances the tension and intrigue of the story. That said, the story isn’t all doom and gloom. There’s a surprising amount of fluff and humour woven into the narrative, with hilarious interactions and lighter moments that provide a welcome contrast to the overarching horror and tension. The balance between suspense and levity makes the story engaging and multifaceted, keeping me on my toes while also offering a lot of moments of relief.
It is definitely worth the read. Great story with a very interesting concept with a mishmash between historical, sci-fi, fantasy, and apocalyptic themes. The flirting and teasing have humor to them, which I do enjoy. Yes, in the description, it indeed does have Yuri. I love female-led novels, and I have nothing against Yuri, but it does get boring and repetitive after the majority of fantasy and action focused novels that have a female lead turn into Yuri, but that is just a complaint over webnovel as a whole and not this particular novel. The first night is quite slow and can drag on, but it still has an interesting and important development to the story. My only request is that chapters that include smut to be marked.
I will say what I saw from free chapters world building is really interesting and creative the main character is perfect and still mysterious in 45 chapters their was action more than some 900 chapter novels or manha side characters is good totally perfect and interesting give it a chance
It's still good, better than I expected though the pace is quite slow now that I thought about it again. Then again, Carcosa's time is twice that of IRL. Anywho, the story is amazing, extremely reccomended.
Reveal SpoilerI don't usually do reviews, but this book so far has been a really interesting story. I can't wait to see where it goes.

This story primarily follows Narcissus, a figure in Greek mythology who put the word ‘narcissistic’ into the dictionary. However, this story’s version of Narcissus is a little bit different. In this iteration, our MC, Narcissus, is a female with an intoxicatingly alluring charm, and hands so dexterous, she can build a wooden cabin in less than an hour. There are just so many implications with MC’s hands being dexterous, so take it as you will. The story most definitely takes the format of Progression Fantasy more than Mystery Thriller despite its category, so you can definitely take this story as a Fantasy story with a strong Horror flare instead of pure horror/thriller. Makes me wonder why it is in this category to begin with. We follow Narcissus as she became an NPC in Fallen Carcosa Online, a Survival Colony-Management Horror VRMMO that is not released yet in real life, so our protagonist got some time to comfily settle in before the world is filled players in this horrific world. Because the ‘Horror’ aspect of the game involves you surviving a literal SÇP-like encounter every single night, in a day that consists of 24 hours of daytime and 24 hours of nighttime. The SÇP-like encounter that appears on the night is known as Calamity Object, they come in many flavors, with some ranges from being an active threat, passively a threat, a literal eldritch horror, uh-oh, to a surprisingly helpful little fellow if interacted with the right method. You can have a sentient clay that can transform into a tool that solves your problem, a memory parasîte from Rîck and Mórty but actually helpful, to a colossal withering eldritch deity that will bend reality if you interact with it at the slightest. There are also things called Qliphoth Objects but I won’t spoil much. Also, remember when I said that Narcissus can build a wooden cabin in less than an hour? In her preparation for her first ever Ordeal, a.k.a the nighttime, she literally deforested her entire area and built a fortress with layers of walls, defenses, trenches, and ballistas at strategic position. In less than 12 hours. The MC is that paranoid and cautious. But personality wise, she is an overachiever. She will shrug off wounds and torn muscles in order to survive, and she always ensures to give more than 100% to achieve her goal. She also has a great level of psychopathy, but not to a cliche level where she outright feels no empathy and emotion like a cold and emotionless robot. Hilariously, MC can be quite a gremlin and humorous, which is a great contrast to the horror that lurks in this world. She is also in love with herself. This is currently my most favorite book on the web because of how unique it is, so there might be some bias in this review of mine. Overall, 9/10
