Chapter 34: Medicine King Valley
Watching Meng Wu Ya battle other demonic humans, Liu Zheng knew it was the right time to step in and prevent any mishaps. He flew over at full speed, his Qi blade slicing through two enemies before he stopped to unleash a void slash, cutting three more into pieces without giving them a chance to resist.
Not far away, a dozen more demons rushed towards Sister Xia, who was currently with an old alchemist whom he presumed to be their primary target.
Ignoring Treasurer Meng, he used sonido to appear in front of them and unleashed a void beam intending to kill all of them in one go.
Surprisingly, more than half dodged the attack, which sliced through a few of their comrades and the mountain peak behind them.
For the first time, Liu Zheng saw opponents using their intelligence. They scattered and tried to flee, but in the face of overwhelming power, no amount of cleverness could save them.
Activating his void eye, he expanded his area of influence and control over space force. He raised his hand in the air creating five small void cracks around it, gathered a large amount of space force to form a sphere, and then shaped it into several space blades targeting the fleeing demons. The blades were so fast that the demons didn't have time to react, leading to all of them being cut in half.
The main advantage of space blades here is that most cultivators are not even susceptible to disturbance in space as their divine space isn't developed enough to sense it and the only way they could react to it is watching a few of their comrades die or the change in their surrounding to know something is wrong and they need to run away in different directions to avoid it.
By the time Liu Zheng was about to greet Sister Xia, Meng Wu Ya came down and did something unexpected. He stood between Liu Zheng and the others, including Sister Xia, in a battle stance.
"I, Meng Wu Ya, thank you for protecting my disciple and the people here, but I cannot let you get close to them without knowing your purpose."
"But Master, he—" Xia Ning Chang tried to say something, but her master interrupted her.
"I know he's your savior, dear disciple, but it is suspicious that such a strong cultivator, who seems to be an Above Immortal Ascension Realm, appears out of nowhere and helps us without anything in return. So, can you tell me who you are and why you've come here?"
Liu Zheng almost laughed out loud but held it in, not wanting to seem more villainous after so much of bloodshed. With a smirk, he said, "It seems age is getting to you, Treasurer Meng. Why don't you find a good man and give your disciple's hand to him? And as you know, the only good man around here is me," he added, pointing to himself.
"J-JU-JUNIOR BROTHER! H-how can you say such things in front of everybody?"
Meng Wu Ya's eyes widened as he looked at Liu Zheng, then at his disciple, and back at Liu Zheng. "How did you change so much in a matter of months? The last I checked, you were only at the Qi Transformation Realm, and now you've suddenly shot up to the Above Immortal Ascension Realm?"
"I understand that I've gotten much more handsome, but it pains me that you wouldn't even recognize me. Also, you don't have to refer to that realm with the name this small world has given it. And I haven't reached it properly yet. We'll discuss the practicalities later," Liu Zheng replied, coming out of his Bankai state.
Meng Wu Ya, protective as he was about his disciple, was a sensible person. He left the questions for later after recognizing Liu Zheng.
"I, Xiao Fu Shen, thank you, Sir, on behalf of the whole Medicine King Valley for protecting us from the demons. I hope you will allow us to compensate you properly for your service," the Alchemy Grandmaster thanked Liu Zheng, bowing along with the three ladies beside him, of whom Liu Zheng presumed the two older ones to be his caretakers and the younger one with blue hair to be the newly taken disciple who should also be Yang Kai's cousin from his mother's side.
"There is no need for such things. I was here to ensure the safety Senior Sister, who is right there," Liu Zheng pointed towards Xia Ning Chang, who blushed, "and saving the people here was my duty as someone who cultivates in the righteous path. So, there is no need to thank me."
Liu Zheng yapped a few more lines, greatly appreciated by the grandmaster, but also warned them about the revival of the demon lord, keeping his origins anonymous to ensure they stayed on guard.
After that, Meng Wu Ya dragged Liu Zheng away to talk privately, and Xia Ning Chang followed. Liu Zheng explained everything that had happened in the sect and how it was safe for now, but the Han Dynasty's Central Capital forces might take action soon. He didn't plan to stay long and only wanted to ensure their safety and take them back if they wished.
"We still have some work left here. Though unfortunately, the saint's statue is destroyed, my disciple can still learn a lot here. It is the perfect environment for her to advance in alchemy. But you still haven't answered my question, brat. How were you able to display the strength of a transcendent realm a few moments ago?" Meng Wu Ya asked again.
"You see, I have a unique bloodline which, upon refining to a certain extent and overcoming harsh challenges, grants me a form that increases my strength so much it can transcend even the barriers between major realms," Liu Zheng explained, not wanting to reveal too much but also impressing Meng Wu Ya enough to "support" or at least not stop his pursuit of Sister Xia.
"I have never heard of such a powerful bloodline. It even defies the laws of heaven. Is your special physique also a result of that?" Meng Wu Ya asked, and Liu Zheng nodded in confirmation.
Meng Wu Ya couldn't believe such a talent could exist. He thought that now it might be his disciple who wasn't worthy of Liu Zheng, but everything still wasn't set in stone, and he needed to see Liu Zheng's development to be sure of anything.
"Now, why don't you leave both of us alone for a while? It's been a long time since we've met," Liu Zheng said, appearing behind Xia Ning Chang.
"You brat, you think I'll let you do whatever you want just because you grew a little powerful?" Treasurer Meng returned to his usual personality.
"Yes, bye-bye!" Liu Zheng said, putting a hand on Xia Ning Chang's shoulder and using sonido to vanish.
Liu Zheng took her to her room, where this time at least she was less shy when alone. They talked about all the adventures they had in the past half a year.
He also gave her a lot of Myriad Drug Liquid since she was still at True Element Realm 7th Stage, advising her to consume it and mix it in water for daily baths to purify her body continuously. He also gave her Myriad Drug Milk for later consumption and the cream for consuming every few days but only a single drop or less to improve her talent.
Finally, he had to tell her about the cave inheritance, which led to him and Su Yan being married. This news made her upset and somewhat heartbroken, though she tried her best not to show it on her face.
Her feelings for Liu Zheng had grown, from somewhat liking him to almost reaching the stage of love especially knowing he came here just to save her, showing how much he truly cared about her safety and the things he gave her without a second thought showing his concern about her future as well.
Xia Ning Chang was conflicted. On one hand his Junior brother was now already married but on the other hand he still cared for her so much which made even the prospect of giving up also very difficult and painful even though it would be the right choice but at the same time some part of her still wanted to be with him. The biggest problem being she hadn't received any solid confirmation about his feeling from him apart from small hints and jokes with her master especially now that he isn't single anymore.
Liu Zheng sensed her mood and the inner conflict. He knew he should make things clear, so he decided to be honest with his feelings instead of waiting.
He got on one knee, took her right hand, and gave a light peck on it, making her very embarrassed. Before she could speak, he said, "I understand how you're feeling right now, Sister Xia, or at least to some degree. But before you make any decision, I want you to listen to me and understand a few things from my side."
She nodded with a red face, and he continued, "When I got back from my adventure after four months, I had gained enough strength to stand on an equal footing with you and wanted to confess my feelings. I wanted to tell you that I really like you. After that, I planned to become the strongest in this world before asking Treasurer Meng for your hand in marriage.
But things didn't go as planned. When I came back, you were never there, and the inheritance cave was discovered, which led us here. So before you come to any conclusion, I want you to know, Xia Ning Chang, that I still like you the same way and more.
In the case that you don't like the idea of sharing me or don't hold such feelings altogether, I hope you don't feel burdened by my feelings. You will still remain Sister Xia to me, and I too would remain the same, but I hope for a positive answer."
After saying this, he kissed her hand once more and left to let her digest everything.
Coming out of the room he thought about how things will go with Sister Xia for some time but knew that pondering over it won't change much and he should focus on work which was to refine and absorb all the games which he had already instructed zangetsu to start working on with his demon eye.
And the next step would be to start preparations to make High Heaven Pavilion the absolute hegemon of this small world.
