It was the 30th of August. Mephistopheles was lying on the roof thinking. Logically, he should be escorted to school or at least called. Suddenly the prince felt a fluctuation in the magical fields and a moment later there was a knock at the door.

- Mr Harry, come downstairs. - The frightened voice of his aunt was heard. Since the prince had frightened them, the relatives preferred to ignore him, which suited Mephistopheles just fine. The boy went downstairs and discovered a new face in the drawing room besides his guardians. Outwardly, the new character reminded the prince of his old acquaintance the vampire, peace be upon his ashes. Dressed in all black, the man surveyed the room with squeamishness. His cold eyes stopped on the boy.

- Mr Potter. - The voice was quiet. But imposing. It was the way Mephistopheles himself sometimes expressed himself when he needed a threat.

- I've come to inform you that you are enrolled at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. You're a wizard, just like your parents. Gather round! - Such a sudden change of tone. - we're going shopping in Diagon Ally. Don't just stand there.

- Why should I believe you? - Mephistopheles also spoke in half tones. - I don't know you.

- Harry, this is Severus, he teaches at your school," Auntie said quietly. - Go with him, he'll explain everything to you.

The man and the boy went outside.

- I see you are not surprised to be a wizard, Mr Potter. - Snape began the dialogue. - How long ago were you told?

- About a month ago, I heard my uncle and aunt talking about it. - Mephistopheles decided to play the ordinary boy who had such news dumped on his head. This Snape could be dangerous, the man's not an idiot. - And what subject do you teach?

- Potions. - dry answer. - We're here. - The entrance to the local wizarding quarter was hidden in a small subspace pocket. The prince had often encountered such a phenomenon, though it was no longer used recently. They walked past the shops and found themselves at a bank, the entrance to which was guarded by... Dwarves? No, goblins. Goblins were almost extinct in his world, but here they existed and were doing very well.

- We've come to make a withdrawal from Mr Potter's account. - Mephistopheles was brought out of his musings by the voice of Snape, who was talking to a goblin. After a couple of minutes of hellish descent, they were already standing in front of the safe. The door opened and the prince whistled. The mountains of gold looked quite impressive. Granted, his fortune at the time of his arrest was in excess of billions of credits, but still.

Snape watched with an indifferent look as Potter raked the coins into his rucksack. The man's intuition whined alarmingly. Something was wrong with Potter. This was not the reaction the professor had imagined, even with Potter's awareness of the wizarding world. Outwardly, everything was fine, but still... something was bothering.

- Where are we going now? - Potter's voice brought him out of his thoughts.

- You'll need textbooks, Mr Potter, as well as robes, quills and the rest of the list. - Said Snape, holding out a voluminous list to the boy.

Mephistopheles took the list, running his eyes over it. His eyes caught on the line 'first year students are forbidden to have their own brooms'. What, to sweep the floor? Ah, no, on this planet I remember they fly on brooms. Idiotic.

Snape followed the boy, gauging his reaction to those around him. It didn't look like Potter was interested, but that he was trying to catch some sort of thought. Having tried to use Legillimency, Snape soon abandoned the attempt. The lad appeared to have an incomprehensible block. It didn't just keep him out, it was like he was isolated.

- That leaves the wand, sir," they entered the shop.

- 'Ah, Mr Potter,' came a voice. Mephistopheles twitched, too deep in his thoughts to react in any way. - I remember your father buying a wand from me, yes. Witch hazel and dragon's heart vein," the old man spoke, stepping closer.

- Well, it's time for you to pick up a battlemate too," Olivander began rummaging through the shelves. - Here, try this one - larch and swan feather. The prince took the wand and immediately a wild howl went through the room, which cracked all the panes of glass.

- No, this one is not suitable, please ask for the next one, beech and heart vein of the manticore, - the wand suffered the same fate, only the howling was a little quieter. It took about half an hour before Mephistopheles could choose a wand - fused needles of magical cactus and the frozen tear of a mermaid.

- 'This is... an unusual choice Mr Potter,' it seemed as if the old man had expected a different result, 'this wand is suitable for enchantments, transfiguration and spatial magic, a very, very rare combination.

Potter left Olivander's shop in silence. Snape was also silent, pondering what he had heard, but as he reached the exit of the block, he broke the silence.

- Here's your ticket Mr Potter, the train leaves at 9am, don't be late," the dark haired type finally disappeared after saying this.
