Chapter 24: Helping Hand...

*Ring* *Ring*

 "Hmm?"

~Hmm~

"Who is calling this early?"

~Make it stop..master~

"I know, I know."

Getting up from my bed, I pick up the phone that was on a little table beside the bed.

 *Click*

"Hello?"

"Isaac, hello. Sorry for calling you this early in the morning."

"Ah, master Zatara, it's fine; what can I do for you?"

"Well, you see, a friend of mine is asking for assistance in a case, but let's be real, I'm no longer in my prime, so to further your training, I want for you to go in my place, can you do it?"

"Hmm...yes, I can master."

"Perfect, I will tell my friend."

"Oh, yeah, where is the place?"

'"London"

 ***************

Stepping out of my portal, I cancel my magic quickly. Looking around, I find this place dark and quiet—too quiet.

{I better put my equipment}

In a flash of light, I put my equipment and my staff in my right hand.

{According to Zatara, someone has to be expecting me, so where is it?}

Looking around, what I can see is a pretty nice neighborhood, but the unsettling part is that there's no light in any of the houses.

{So, moving or staying?}

 "[Kèter'elyon]"

"[Zeig mir den Weg, den ich finden muss]"

(Show me the path that I need to find.)

In front of me, a butterfly appeared made out of light. It circled around me two times, then took off straight north.

{I guess I need to follow}

After passing a coupe of houses, the butterfly made a turn and approached one of the houses; this one felt darker than the others.

{Hmm...i have no info, so going there blind is stupid}

 "[Revelio]"

{No magic reaction, so what am I against?}

"Are you done?"

 {What!?}

"You're the friend Master Zatara told me?"

"Hmm, well done for keeping your cool, kid."

I turn around only to see a 7-foot-tall man. He has black hair with a white stripe, gray, pale skin, and black eyes.

"Thank you, mister?"

"Call me Andrew."

"Alright, Mr. Andrew, what can I do for you?"

"In my recent hunt, some occultists had been assisting my prey."

"I see, so you want me to deal with them."

 "Precisely"

"And, where are they?"

"That's why we are here; follow me, kid."

"Isaac, mister Andrew, my name's Isaac."

I followed Andrew to the house that the butterfly had entered before.

~Master, I smell blood.~

Indeed, when we entered the house, there was blood everywhere. Curiously,  the blood was used as ink to draw some arcane circles.

 "Those animals"

{Hmm?}

Andrew was looking at the living room. There was a family of four slaughtering, and one disturbing fact was that they were bone dry.

"I see, this occultist uses their blood."

"Yeah." He went to one of the walls of the living room.

"Do you recognize these circles?"

I approached the wall in question to take a closer look. Thanks to me reading the first three floors in Azarath, my magic knowledge is vast.

"Hmm, a little bit. It has a similar design as one of the blood rituals of the Aztecs, but this one's here; it's definitely modified."

"To do what?"

 "Hmm... empower? "Yeah, this modification will empower something, but I will not know what until we find it."

"So, we need to wait for another attack?"

"Not, necessarily...."

I touched the blood on the wall, and I started chanting.

"Prenikavý krik, ktorý sa živí krvou a zanecháva viac smútku, ako získava, teraz bude počuť ten, kto hľadá]"

(The piercing cry that feeds on blood and leaves more sorrow than it gains shall now be heard by one who seeks.)

From the wall, a creature with wings appeared; it was made out of blood.

 ~Ewwgh~

{I know, Nayru, but it was my only option}

 "This is?"

He points to the creature, only for the creature to tilt his head. It was cute, but only if it was not made out of blood.

"A tracker, go find them." As soon as I said that, he stretched his wings and took off through the window, breaking it.

 ..."

*************

Our tracker led us to a nearby place called Highwood Hill. Arkley, according to Andrew, here there's mountains, perfect for our occultists to hide in.

Like we thought, the creature stopped in front of a mountain.

"[Revelio]"

The illusion that was hiding the entrance broke, and before us was a huge ancient gate.

{This gate is too old to be a new cult or organization}

"So, those bastards are behind this."

 {Hmm?} When I looked at Andrew, his eyes changed color from dark to red in an instant.

 {No way! a vampire?}

"So, you know them, mister Andrew."

"Yes, as you can see, I'm a vampire, and so they are. I hunt rouge vampires and vampires that have given into their thirst."

"I see, so what can you tell me about the one who's in front of us?"

"See that crest? That's the Byron family. They are the most ancient family of vampires here in the UK. They also had regular people as familiars, making them extremely rich and powerful."

"I see, so what do we do?"

"We kill them all, obviously."

 ....right"

He approached the door and took a swing at her.

*Crack* He's hand broke, but he immediately healed himself.

"I guess it's magically warded, please," he said, moving to the side.

"[Porta reserare, nulla magicae obstructionum]"

(Door unlock, no magic block.)

*Grrhhgg* The door opens itself.

"Good work"

"Thank you, so what's the plan?"

"I took care of the vampires and familiars, and you took care of the occultists."

"Simple enough, but we need more information about this place."

I put my hands on the ground, and I started chanting.

"[gli spiriti della terra mi offrono la visione per vedere il mio nemico]"

(The spirits of the earth give me vision to see my foe.)

I lost my vision for two seconds, then I started to see inside what looked to be a temple. There were at least thirty people here; the occultists were easy to spot; they were wearing red blood robes.

My vision returned, and I relayed the information that I gathered.

"There's thirty people there; 12 of them are occultists; the rest are either vampires or familiars."

"Good job, Isaac."

"Shall we go?"

"Yeah"

Chapter 25: Church of Blood

We enter the mountain, passing the gates. As soon as we entered, the doors closed. Andrew was first followed by me and Nayru.

Inside there was a long corridor; only a couple of torches illuminated this place, and the floor and walls were surprisingly made out of granite, not stone.

We walked for a couple of minutes in a straight line until we came into a large chamber. It was adorned with pillars and statues, and on the floor was the crest that was at the gates. The chamber divides the road into one corridor to the east and one to the west.

"You take the east one; I will take the west one."

"Are you sure?"

The other path was dark without torches.

"Just take care of the occultists and Isaac."

 "Yeah?"

"Be careful"

"Got it." I pull out a silence talisman along with a [conceal] one too.

I walked to the east side as he told me; on this path, there were torches.

{Light for easy sight, meaning for humans, he went where the vampires are, didn't he? How did he know? right increased sense of smell}

As I started to approach the end of the path, I could hear some chanting.

"Le sang est la mort..." (Blood is death.)

"Le sang est la douleur." Blood is pain.

"Le sang est la passion..." (Blood is passion.)

"Le sang est la vie." (Blood is life.)

"Le sang se connecte..." (Blood connect...)

{Huh?... This chanting...}

~Master?~ {Sorry, they are chanting in the wrong order, corrupting the original proposal of the ritual.}

~What do we do, master?~

{Hmm... interrupting the ritual will cause a severe backlash, probably killing or maiming all the occultists, or I could wait for them to finish and learn what the objective of this ritual is.}

~Master, there's something in the chamber ahead.~

{Oh?...can you tell me what it is, Nayru?}

~Some sort of artifact, it feels evil.~

{Hm, I see. Well,  let's crash this party then}

As I approached the entrance to the chamber, I could see a group of cultists in a circle. In the middle of the chamber, I finally saw what Nayru was referring to as an artifact: a silver goblet with red gems encrusted all over it.

{Indeed, with my soul sight, I can see that this goblet is trouble}

In my vision, the goblet had faces in all the red gems, meaning that the goblet contains large amounts of souls.

{Ok, let's begin: [Rock Golem]+[Minor Protection]+[Enhance], Nayru, don't let them die; I have plans for them.}

~alright, master~

In the middle of the chamber, a huge golem made out of rock appeared from the ground, scaring the living crap out of everyone here, thus breaking the ritual, and the backlash was instant.

 "No!..."

 "F**!!..."

 *Crack*

*argghhh*

Half of the cultist received a heavy injury; the other half was just a minor wound.

"Who dares to interrupt this sacred ritual!"

"There, Brother Blood!"

{What!? Did he say Brother Blood?}

When I focused on the one they called Brother Blood, I saw a young man. He had white skin and red eyes. He was wearing a skull cap and a red, golden, and blue costume.

(Raaaggh)[Treat]

My golem used his skill, giving him all the attention of the cultist, and I used that to rain spells into them.

{Change of plans, Nayru; hit them hard and aim to kill}

~understood, master~ [Zio] She gathered many light bolts around her and was ready to launch them.

 {[Boost]+[Crackling Lance] [Fireball] [Wind Slash] [Ice Spear] [Flame Pillar]}

Along with my spells, Nayru launches hers.

 *Argghh* "Noo!!.."

*Crack*

*splash*

*Boom*

"You...you...damn...you..."

When the smoke cleared, only my golem was there, along with a couple of cultists.

{Tch, they escaped; he was young, so he probably just took control of the Church of Blood}

{Where's the goblet?}

 ~there, master ~ {Hmm?} I saw it on one of the walls; the goblet was encrusted there.

"I guess from the impact of our spells, Golem protects the entrance."

My golem moved slowly to the entrance of the chamber; meanwhile, me and Nayru went to see the cultist and the goblet.

"Heal them only enough for them to not die."

 ~yes, master...[Dia]x6~

As Nayru was healing them, I went to see the goblet encrusted in the wall.

 "[Kèter'elyon]"

"[Aquio]"

 "[Levioso]"

"I need to cleanse this thing, but I need time."

[Detecting a powerful artifact, do you wish to transfer it to the inventory?]

{Yes!!}

 [Transferring... Complete] In a flash of light, the goblet was gone, and in my inventory was a notification.

[Corrupted Goblet of Blood]

~Master, I'm done.~

{Mmh?...Ah... thank you, Nayru} i reach my hand to her head.

*Pat* *Pat*

(Giggle)~ You're welcome, master~

"Now let's begin the experiment." I cancel my magic.

{[Dark Bargain: Herma'Mora]}

A green and dark arcane circle appeared below me, and from it emerged a creature. This creature was dark, ancient, and dangerous; it had the aspect of an eye and many tentacles with eyes as well.

~"Speak"~

"I want to exchange life energy for his connection to magic," I point at one of the cultists that was on the floor.

~"Approved. One of his tentacles grabbed my left arm, and the other tentacle grabbed the head of the cultist.

Then I felt like something was leaking from me; soon I was getting paler with each passing second, until it brought me to one knee on the floor, but not the other guy.

 *AAARRGGH*

He was screaming his lungs out, and then I heard a notification in my mind.

[Detecting Mind Energy]... Transferring Complete]

[(Mind+2) Do you accept?]

 {Yes} [Mind:87(+15)]

At the end, he stopped moving. I don't know what consequences this will bring him, but I don't really care; he's at least alive.

 ~master!!...[Dia]~]

{Thank you, Nayru} Nayru brought me back to full health, so to speak, so I need to replace the offerings.

"I offer ten life runes for their connection to magic."

~"... Denied"~

{Hmm...}

 "Twelve"

~"... Approved"~

"Sweet," I pull out twelve [Life Runes] from my inventory.

Another tentacle grabbed the runes, and more tentacles reached for the heads of the survivors'.

*AAARRGGH*x5

A symphony of screams—for a couple of seconds, that's all that can be heard in the chamber—then silence.

 [Mind:97(+15)]

{Good, let's go, Nayru; we need to check on Andrew}

 ~Yes, Master~

I cancelled my golem and went to the opposite side.

{Thank the presence that it's in a straight line...}

{[Dark Vision]}

When I reached the end of the west side, there were stairs that led to the underground.

{I don't like this.}

~Master, I could go instead of you.~

{Denied, you're not strong enough}

~Awww~

{Don't worry, soon you will be able to help me more, but for now, we go together}

~alright, Master~
