Whispers In The Dark (1)

The moon hung low on the horizon, casting long shadows that stretched like dark fingers across the settlement. It was a night like many others, marked by an eerie silence that seemed to envelop the world. 

But for Shinon, the night held a disquieting undercurrent, a sense that something had been set into motion.

He sat on the rooftop of one of the settlement's buildings, eyes scanning the perimeter. It was his thing to do when he felt confused and didn't know a way out of an overwhelming issue. But this time, even stargazing wasn't going to help him.

"What has become of my life," Shinon smiled wanly, staring at a long-forgotten constellation. "Just when I think everything is getting on track, something randomly pops up and throws me off. For now... I can hope the scouts find something tangible about those attackers."
