Chapter 201: Elixir Sky Tower

Inside the Elixir Sky Tower…

Yaan sat within the chamber located at the peak of the tower. This was the only room within the tower - the lower portion of the tower was simply part of the formation used to amplify the Spiritual Pressure and gravity in the upper chamber.

If he used his illusion dao comprehension to assist him, resisting this pressure would be too easy for Yaan. However, there was no reason for him to do something like that, because right now, Yaan was using this pressure to draw out the power contained within the Heart Fire Elixir. He needed to struggle under the pressure, using only his body and cultivation to resist.

At this point, Yaan's dao comprehension was far beyond his cultivation level. For others at Rank 4, dao comprehension was merely a supplement to their abilities, but Yaan's dao comprehension granted him a level of strength far beyond his cultivation base.

This was a very strange situation to be in.

Most cultivators would try to improve their dao comprehension so that they could showcase their abilities to their full potential, but Yaan needed to create new techniques which were suitable for his immortal stage dao comprehension!

This was quite a nice problem to have though, Yaan wasn't complaining about this.

Yaan recognised his deficiencies, though rather than deficiencies, he saw these things as areas with the potential for rapid improvement.

His dao comprehension was at the immortal stage, this was in itself an immortal level ability. He had very little practise in using this ability, whilst his techniques were lagging behind. As for his cultivation, this was obviously even further behind, but that was why he was cultivating in the Elixir Sky Tower presently.

Yaan did not waste his time within the cultivation chamber. His body would process the elixir's power no matter what form of exercise he used to exert himself, but it was more efficient to multi-task, practising his techniques within the tower.

Beginning with the basics, Yaan started to display his Agile Sword Arts. This was the sword art that he had known for the longest. This art had a big influence over his combat style, since he had trained and practised this technique for so long now.

However, Yaan's understanding of this sword art was incomplete. With his intelligence and his understanding of sword arts, he could probably deduce the later stages by now, but that was not the best use of his time.

At this point, even when Yaan used the 'Agile Sword Art' in battle, he was not truly using this sword art in its pure form, but a variant art that he had adapted over time to suit his own style of battle. This variant art was incomplete - it contained aspects of the Agile Sword Arts, aspects of various other sword arts that Yaan had practised over the years, as well as his own adaptations to bring everything together.

This was essentially how most sword arts were developed. Every cultivator who practised sword arts would begin by studying the techniques of their predecessors, but eventually, they would make alterations to these techniques to suit their own needs. Over time, their art would transform further and further as they added in other bits and pieces that they picked up from elsewhere, until the art eventually became something completely unrecognisable compared to what it once was.

Yaan's Agile Illusion Art was a bit like this, but it was also different. He had created two stages in the Agile Illusion Art thus far, each of which was a single step, a single move. This sort of sword art was not a complete comprehensive battle art, but a series of moves developed throughout the creator's life.

Sword arts could be split into two categories. Arts such as the Agile Sword Art, which included a full comprehensive battle system that could be applied to all general combat situations, were called 'general sword arts'. Those like the Agile Illusion Art, where each stage was defined by a single, powerful move, were called 'specific sword arts'.

Yaan already had his own specific sword art, and now, he was in the process of developing his own general sword art. General sword arts were not as flashy and shocking compared to specific sword arts, but they were no less important. In fact, they were probably even more important!

Yaan slowly phased from using the Agile Sword Art, into using his own variation sword art. He focussed mainly on the footwork for now, moving across the ground like a spring breeze, rapidly but gently.

At first, he avoided using his dao of illusions ability altogether, but eventually, he began to incorporate this dao manipulation into his movements. He did not use this dao manipulation to resist the pressure in the chamber, but utilised the dao of illusions to increase the mystery behind each of his movements.

Before long, Yaan was dripping with sweat and panting for breath. Both the gravity and Spiritual Pressure here were too much for a 4-Star Realm body temperer to handle, and even Yaan with his Vital Qi Core Realm cultivation struggled to move about agilely under this strain. After just a few minutes, his body felt like it was on fire…

As the burning sensation filled his muscles, a second burning feeling poured in from his blood vessels. Yaan's eyes lit up and he quickly began moving once again, keeping half of his focus pointed inwards, watching his internal condition.

The deeper his exhaustion grew, the more burning vitality was extracted from the Heart Fire Elixir. This feeling of vitality was particularly strong within his heart, in fact, Yaan felt certain that his heart would benefit greatly from using this elixir!

He continued to train, practising his sword arts with increasing difficulty. When his body began to tremble due to muscular exhaustion, and moving became difficult, Yaan urged his Psyche Power to assist his ongoing training, until he finally hit the floor and could no longer move. As he felt his consciousness blurring and the elixir's flaming vitality stormed into his body to rapidly recover his exhaustion, Yaan's eye lids began to droop…

Then in the next instant, his eyes shot open and he calmly got to his feet.

"Hmm…so illusions can also be used like this." Yaan muttered to himself, feeling a bit surprised by his finding.

Even when he was on the verge of passing out due to exhaustion, he could create the illusion of alertness within himself, allowing him to return to near peak condition in an instant!

However, there was no such thing as infinite energy in this world, this power came at a price.

"The truth is, my body is still completely exhausted. This is similar to how Psyche Power can be used to force the body to go on, even when it's about to break down…the illusion does not recover my energy, it simply allows me to ignore the exhaustion temporarily. Eventually, I will need to rest, and if I continue to push myself whilst in this state, the accumulated exhaustion will be many times worse in the end…"

Thinking this, Yaan's eyes shone with a joyous light.

It might sound bad, pushing on until his exhaustion reached unprecedented levels, but this was exactly what he needed right now! Elixirs only exhibited an effect when the body was in a state of exhaustion. When the body was pushed into a deeper state of exhaustion, the effect of the elixir also became greater.

If Yaan could push himself beyond the normal mortal limit, he might be able to extract more power from the Heart Fire Elixir than anyone else had ever done before!

Of course, if an immortal had ever trained using this elixir, they could likely achieve the same thing. But why would an immortal train using a mortal elixir in the first place?

Yaan was stepping into unknown territory, but that only caused the blazing flame within his expectant gaze to burn even brighter.

He continued to push himself further within the Elixir Sky Tower, exhausting his body beyond its limits. Both his mind and body were completely worn down at this point, but the ripples of illusions around him permitted Yaan to train as if he was in near-peak condition.

Despite his desire to go on, he was careful not to push himself too far this time, because he knew that overexerting himself too excessively would lead to him falling into a deep sleep, perhaps for multiple months. Because of this, Yaan stopped as soon as he started feeling waves of dizziness assaulting him. At this point, he immediately lay down to recuperate.

Yaan was also being cautious for another reason.

The mysterious golden elixir!

Back in the 4th Trial Realm, the old man who called himself 'Old Thief' forced Yaan to consume a strange golden elixir. The effect of this elixir seemed to be quite mild, but it lasted for a shocking period of time, whilst its range of regenerative effects was truly astounding. Even though none of the effects of this elixir appeared to be overly intense, it was actually able to assist Yaan with the restoration of his Dantian back then…this was the only external resource that had ever helped his Dantian to recover!

Even now, more than three years later, the golden elixir's power lingered within Yaan's body. Generally speaking, consuming multiple elixirs together was considered wasteful and reckless, because the resultant effect could be unpredictable.

Well, Yaan had no idea how much longer this golden elixir would remain within him, so he could only brave the danger and hope for the best. The Heart Fire Elixir, despite being the Rising Sun Tribe's most powerful elixir, was nothing extreme for Yaan. He considered this to be a good test to see if there were any interactions with the golden elixir.

Thankfully, there didn't seem to be any negative interactions…in fact, even though it was subtle, Yaan felt certain that the golden elixir was actually amplifying the efficacy of the Heart Fire Elixir!

This discovery, along with his realised ability of using the dao of illusions to further his elixir cultivation, gave Yaan hope for the future of his cultivation.

It wasn't often that he felt that his future was bright, but Yaan would not allow himself to grow complacent. Whenever things started going well for him, he was reminded of the various mysteries surrounding his life, immediately quenching his optimism.

Since his future road of cultivation seemed to be clear, he would not slow down and relax. Instead, he would charge forwards at full speed, taking advantage of his current situation. He would use this temporary period of freedom and peace to build up his strength, so that he would be able to deal with whatever difficulties might lie ahead.

Quick update on the release schedule (it's good!):

I've been releasing multiple chapters per day on the patreon recently, and that's going to start reflecting on the public release from today - meaning multiple releases per day, woo! I'll upload the extra chapters at varying/random times throughout the day because that way, it reaches a wider audience.

As for why I'm uploading more? To be honest, I'm just enjoying reading ADL volume 4 right now, lol. It's my favourite volume (so far) after all.  Plus, it's reached the point where the current content from ADL is generally better written and with fewer mistakes, so there's not as much to change. It makes reading through it faster and more enjoyable for me this way.

Since there will be multiple chapters uploaded each day, make sure you read the right one and don't skip any by mistake!

Anyways, enjoy!

Chapter 202: The Blood Plane Lord

Whilst Yaan was busy training in the Elixir Sky Tower, a certain individual had just finished his own training elsewhere on the Blood Plane.

This individual was now sat atop a throne in the War Hall of Primordial Mountain, the natural formation of epic proportions which sat at the centre of the Blood Plane!

Divine Heaven was the headquarters of the Divine Court, Primordial Mountain was the headquarters of the Primordial Alliance!

This individual on Primordial Mountain's throne was an immortal body temperer, yet multiple divinities were lined up at the sides of the war hall, stood below him, looking up at him with patient expressions.

Right now, this individual was weak, but nobody present dared to look down on him. His appearance alone struck fear into the hearts of countless beings across the Blood Plane, and even across the other world planes, especially the Qi Plane. He looked slightly different and was much smaller compared to in the past, but there was no mistaking him…

His hair was blood red, his body muscular and thousands of feet tall, his chest was bare and his skin seemed to emit a faint bronze gleam.

Most notably, this man was surrounded by a thick air of killing intent. His red eyes seemed to pierce through the world, looking down on all things with an unbridled disdain which stemmed from his innate and overwhelming sense of pride.

This person…was the Blood Plane Lord!

If Yaan were to see this person, he would be shocked senseless, because this man looked extremely similar to the will of the red-haired man that he encountered back in the 4th Trial Realm!

Back then, Yaan guessed that the red-haired man might be the creator of the inheritance. Seeing that person had also stirred deep murderous emotions within Yaan's heart that he was still completely unable to explain. For this person to be here, in this place, the very same world plane that Yaan had been dragged to against his will, was too much for a mere coincidence!

"Congratulations lord. Your ascension to the 9-Star Immortal Realm is a blessing for all beings on the Blood Plane."

A bald headed man with pure black eyes stared at the red-haired man solemnly, clasping his hands in respect. As he spoke, his gaze flickered to the side briefly, landing on the small girl floating in the air beside the Blood Plane Lord.

Like the Blood Plane Lord, this girl's appearance was notorious. In many ways, she was actually more terrifying than the Blood Plane Lord had ever been…

The girl's hair was wavy and extended casually down to her shoulders. Her eyes shone with emerald green light, and a black crystal was embedded within her forehead. Right now, she emitted no aura of any sort, but nobody dared to look down on her.

Nobody would ever look down on the Primordial Sage!

The fact that this red-haired man was able to retain the position of Blood Plane Lord despite him currently being at the Immortal Step, was largely thanks to the Primordial Sage. Even though he was arrogant to the core and truly believed that ruling the Blood Plane was his birth right, the red-haired man would not have revealed himself to the world were it not for the Primordial Sage's support. Not yet at least.

The Blood Plane Lord waved his hand dismissively, not caring about these peoples' flattering words. He knew that they were only acting this way because of the Primordial Sage's presence, he didn't want to hear them go on.

"I was in secluded cultivation for 50 years, update me on the situation in the outside world."

The various members of the Primordial Alliance began giving their updates, but there was nothing that truly caught the Blood Plane Lord's attention.

However, the Primordial Sage's voice appeared within his mind, informing him of the one matter that he truly cared about.

One minute later, the Blood Plane Lord understood that Yaan had arrived on the Blood Plane. He was informed of Yaan's existence and his whereabouts, but for now, he showed no intention of acting.

The red-haired man paid no attention to the voices of those around him. His eyes gleamed with a ferocious light as he listened to the sage's description of the red-robed child and his life…

After hearing her words, he slowly turned his head towards a certain direction, Yaan's direction, the War Flower Empire. Even though they were countless miles apart, the Blood Plane Lord almost felt as if he could feel Yaan's presence…

'So it has arrived. I will allow you to live in peace for some time….after all, I need you to grow stronger if I wish to truly overcome this tribulation, 'Fragment of Dao', hahahaha…'

Yaan had no idea that yet another terrifying being had learned of his existence.

But even if he did know, what could he even do?

Yaan knew that he was somehow entangled in some matters far beyond his understanding, but compared to the other characters involved in these affairs, he was like an ant, he could easily be stepped on or swept away in the wind.

He could only strive to become stronger.

Compared to these cultivators in the Bloody Totem Tribe, he could be considered 'strong', but Yaan knew that he was insignificant in the scheme of things.

And so, he strived to become stronger, cultivating within the Elixir Sky Tower and pushing his limits further each time he recovered from his exhaustion.

Yaan was no longer that reckless child that he had once been. He carefully probed his limits before pushing himself too far, but that did not mean that he had lost his resolve. He steadily pushed himself further and further, keeping an eye on his situation and monitoring his recovery, optimising this period of training to the best of his abilities.

The Heart Fire Elixir had a duration of 100 days. Elixirs were unique in that the duration of effect was set, it did not vary at all between different people, and it was unaffected by the method of training used to extract its power. The amount of an elixir's power that could be absorbed depended on the user's ability to push themselves during its period of effect, but generally, most of an elixir's power would be wasted.

Yaan was unlike others in that he could push himself past the normal limits of the body, then past the limits of the mind, sustaining himself solely with his illusion dao. On top of this, his recovery speed was extremely impressive as a Vital Qi Core Realm cultivator, not to mention the golden elixir which continually provided him with a boosted rate of recovery.

The days flew by and Yaan's cultivation steadily increased, whilst his techniques were honed and he became more familiar with integrating the dao of illusions into his combat style.

During this time, the Bloody Totem Tribe rapidly digested all of the gains that it had reaped from the battle against the Rising Sun Tribe.

The gains came in three main forms. Firstly, there were the materials gains, including resources, treasures and even elixirs. Secondly there was the land, meaning the Rising Sun Tribe's main tribe, as well as the few outposts stationed around the main tribe, and the farm lands and transportation routes between these locations. Finally, there were the people…

Even though every 4-Star Realm Aztec body temperer had been killed, since none of those individuals would ever submit to an external force, there were still tens of millions of people remaining in the Rising Sun Tribe! Gaining control over these people was not easy, nor was cleaning up the mess left behind following the war, but the end result made everything well worth their efforts.

Whilst only two elixirs were gained, one of which was directly used by Yaan, the Bloody Totem Tribe gained possession of seven elixir trees, along with the complete formations to nourish them.

They also gained the entire stash of resources owned not only by the Rising Sun Tribe Elders, but also the treasury hoarded by the tribe as a whole! Yaan kept anything of potential use for himself, leaving over 90% of everything else to the Bloody Totem Tribe Elders to deal with and distribute appropriately.

By the time that Yaan emerged from the Elixir Sky Tower 100 days later, the chaos had been quelled, the dust had settled, and…

The Bloody Totem Tribe eagerly awaited his next move.

At first, they were naturally wary of this senior who appeared out of nowhere and gained a high position of authority within the tribe. But now, things were different.

Yaan's very first action led to the accruement of an entire vassal tribe!

Not only that, but he wasn't excessively greedy with taking the loot for himself, nor did he covet more responsibilities and authority.

His actions of immediately secluding himself away within the Elixir Sky Tower made the tribe elders realise that this 'senior' didn't seem to care about worldly matters, he was truly a seeker of the dao!

Some cultivators pursued strength for riches, others for glory, others still for authority…but a rare few cultivated solely for the sake of pursuing the path of cultivation!

Individuals like this tended to go further compared to others. It was only with this sort of mindset that a person could transcend past their mortal shackles, stepping into the realm of immortality!

Yaan indeed did not care about gaining authority, wealth and prestige, but he understood that on the Blood Plane, he needed these things in order to further his cultivation.

After listening to the tribe leader's update on all major events that had transpired during these last 100 days, Yaan came to a decision after a little thought.

"Prepare yourselves. Tomorrow, we will take the Burning Lotus Tribe."
