Synopsis
On the day he first met a cultivator, Yaan’s life was changed forever.
All that he cared for was ripped away from him. He was forced into a despair-inducing situation, but he endured, he fought, he refused to give up.
But why did he persevere, what drove him to go on?
With nothing to return to, his hatred and rage fuelled his will to survive…
But hatred begets more hatred and the flames of rage are extinguished with time. He was desperately clinging to any thread of meaning that he could find, but heated emotions do not last forever, and ambitions are rarely easily achieved. A person changes over time, often into that which they once despised…
Life…is a struggle. A struggle against the world, a struggle against our own nature, and a struggle against fate. This is the tale of a lone person’s struggle through a twisted world, and his desperate attempt to resist his desolate fate.

Write a reviewDesolate Fate is a re-write of another novel called A Desolate Life. I'm basing my review on ADL, which I read all 256 chapters of. This is a better written xianxia then most of what is available on webnovel and other sties like royal road. It avoids the bad tropes and cliches common in other cookie cutter stories, yet still stays true to the genre. The world building and cultivation system are consistent, and you can tell the author has done a lot of work behind the scenes to make everything feel purposeful. The story takes follows the protagonist's rise in the cultivation world, as well as his exploration of his mysterious past. Each volume is a satisfying story arc in and of themselves, while all still progressing the meta plot. The first few chapters contain foreshadowing for a reveal that comes 250 chapters later, while not feeling out of place. The main character definitely grows and changes throughout the chapters. The main character starts out as young child, forced into a "righteous" sect that has killed his family. He struggles with his anger, and the conflict of wanting to get revenge while not going too far. His innocence is broken and for a while he becomes a lot more demonic, which can turn away some readers. The villainous lead tag is there for a reason. In his heart of hearts though, the MC does not want to be a killer, or evil. He is forced by his circumstances for a while, but eventually works towards gaining redemption.
A fine cultivation novel, which clearly depicts the cruelty of the cultivation world and also shows the main character's inner struggles beautifully. It's very different from those cliche cl novels, where hot-blooded Mc's just go running around chasing dumb cats and offending arrogant young masters. All in all, I have enjoyed this novel thus far and hope it stays the same.
Here I go giving my own novel a 5-Star review again...;) Desolate Fate is a rebranded/polished/reuploaded version of my first novel, A Desolate Life, which has four released volumes. Most of my readers have told me that the novel gets better and better as it goes along, and the feedback from the end of volume 4 was amazing. Rewriting the novel should fix all of the minor issues some people had with the earlier chapters. This is a dark novel. It is tragic, grim, and shows the darker side not only of the cultivation world, but of life as a whole. The protagonist starts off as a naive young kid, but he gradually changes throughout the novel as he experiences more of the world and comes to realise that his life is not as mundane as he had once believed... I gave this novel the anti-hero AND villain tags for a reason - the protagonist changes. He is not outright good, he is not outright evil. At times he clings to morality, at times he becomes a villain in the eyes of everyone around him. If you want to read a dark, serious, somewhat philosophical cultivation novel, with plot-twists, and a main character who experiences both success and failure, then this is the novel for you. A have a solid plan for this novel, in terms of world building, character development, and many crucial plot points. To my old readers who are here to read again - welcome back! To my new readers - welcome! I hope you'll give this novel a chance, because I am committed to seeing it through.

As of the time I am making this review ( 5/19/2023) i have finished 278 chapters, and all I can say is that I am amazed by this authors genius. For the review I will split it into 5 sections Writing Quality, Stability of Updates, Story Development, Character Design. Writing Quality: 5/5 The writing quality is superb, The language and depictions on environments emotion and everything in-between thoroughly immerses the reader into the characters. Stability of updates: 5/5 as of 5/19/2023 the author updates the the story with a chapter everyday sometimes even multiple. Story Development: 5/5 The story development is phenomenal. It evolves throughout the entire story leaving the reader eagerly waiting for the next development. The author expertly weaves the story through the characters and unlike many other authors makes the story feel alive and connected. Character Design: 5/5 The character Design is the best part of the book the author not only explores the emotion and depth of the main character but others as well. Not only that but the character development of the main character is the best I have ever seen on webnovel, The main character goes through many struggles evolving his perspective on himself, the world and others. If you are looking for a purely evil main character this story is not for you. The main character is more than a villain. He is a human, he evolves and changes and although at some points he is villainous that is not all he is. World Background: 4/5 Although the World background is the worst part of the 4 other points of review it is still fairly good. The author does go into detail about the background of the world but in the grand scheme of the story I feel as though it's not enough. (spoilers ahead) The dimension's that the main character goes to don't have that much substance, you cant really feel the background that these dimension's have affecting the story in any tangible manner and you don't really feel engaged in what happens to the dimensions, For example the main character goes to a realm which is massive, thousands of kingdoms within a single empire, the leader of each kingdom being stronger than the main character. what's unfortunate is that you never really feel engaged with the empire/kingdoms. making them feel rather 1 dimensional. You really feel this 1 dimensionality when some kingdoms to war and you don't really care or feel intrigued about the outcome of the world. That being said I don't really think it dragged the story down that much because the story is more focused of the development of the main character and those around him. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Perhaps my thoughts on this book will worsen but so far this is one of if not the best stories on webnovel, would definitely recommend.
Really good story, a little disappointed i cant read volume 5 righit now but i think the rewrite will be worth the wait. honestly one of the best things on here, the author knows how to write a cultivation novel. please just trust me, for your own good.
one of the best cultivation novels to exist. It perfectly shows the struggles in such a world and what Humans are ready to do for Survival. The Character developement of the MC is really interesting and perfectly written
What a great development of a the character, it will be even better if he developed more(I'm at chapter 53 currently) I'm waiting for him to be stronger than the ghu province lord, idk why but i felt angry at how he's more domineering than the mc. Some help for people No romance & harem(I'm at chapter 53 so until there it's guaranteed, maybe the author will change) Good grammar Good world building Great character development Now, just read it.
I think it’s good. It’s about a kid who pops pills on the daily and has trouble making friends.
Make the MC cold mc, indifferent mc, evil mc, unfriendly mc, lonely mc, or rational mc, with no romance, no harem, no girls, and no poisons Ok?
Really enjoying the rewrite of A Desolate Life so far. Can’t wait to catch up to existing chapters. Really encourage people to give this novel a shot.
First of all the MC is not an evil MC. He is your typical naive cultivation MC. But the story line is just too good. The world building, the characters and the plot , all are too good for a cultivation novel. But the main downside of this story is that the MC is carried by pure plot armor. The use of plot armor in this story is just insane. For example, once MC group was fighting an enemy group, MC group suddenly betray the MC. Then MC looked at the previous enemy group with a determined look, and boom, suddenly the enemy group was stunned by the determination of MC and sided with the MC. Then they teamed up and fight against the group that betrayed MC. Another one will be, MC is cultivating in closed door cultivation, MC made a mistake and he is suddenly on the verge of death, then suddenly a misterious grandpa appears and saves MC. These are just a few example of how insane the plot armour of the MC is. The last and most annoying thing about this novel is the character called Rui. She first wanted to manipulate MC into becoming a pill for her resurruction, MC found out about this, but he still didn't do anything about her. He just keep her with him. Then when MC enters an illusion, she try to manipulate him multiple times, but this stupid idiot keep beliving her words. It's almost sad and pathetic how naive this MC is.

Author, I recommend that you remove the ''villain'' tag. If you're not going to write a novel where the mc will follow dao demonioco it's better to remove this tag. If you keep this up, the only thing you'll get are negative comments from "evil MC" fans, and claims that you're deceiving readers.
