Chapter 472: Demigod Tier

Michael is spat out of the Oblivion Gate in a large crater that he didn't recognise... The sun was beating down on him, so it definitely wasn't Skyrim. Even still, the harsh rays of sunlight were like a cool breeze in comparison with the Deadlands.

"Haaah..." he almost moans in ecstasy as he flops down onto the floor and stretches his limbs out, simply taking in the momentary peace he'd found now that he wasn't being affected by Dagon's aura and the overall despair caused by the Deadlands itself.

He wasn't too sure how long he'd been in the Deadlands however, so he'd need to get back as soon as possible... He vaguely remembered his plans from before the Hunt, but it'd come back to him once he was back in familiar territory.

As for where he was now?... Well, probably Cyrodil judging by the architecture of the nearby buildings and people that inhabited them. The crater he was in was located on the outskirts of a small village, so he didn't think he'd be interrupted by anyone while casting another Dimension Gate back to Winterhold.

First though, he'd check his Status to see what his many deaths had resulted in... He didn't feel all that different, but he couldn't be sure until he checked.

...

Wow, that's broken isn't it?

Though, he was a little perturbed by the update to [Dead God...?] which suppresses his emotions. If that wasn't a sign of how the skill would progress he didn't know what was... If he died enough would he just become an emotionless, robotic husk?... He'd rather not think about it.

Next was his new skill, [Spirit Summoner] which was maybe the most broken fucking ability he'd ever seen...

Being able to summon the Spirits from the Book of Legends? Considering the fact that Slark used to beat his ass pretty consistently, their ranks didn't really accurately display their strengths. He still wasn't exactly sure what decided which Spirit went where, but regardless, being able to summon even a single Spirit was a game-changer.

He could summon Aur-... No, probably not, the way her status looked made it seem like she was permanently dead... He shakes his head and forces the mournful feelings away.

Still, being able to summon say, Lina, or Rubick considering he'd somehow maxed out his Kunkka while hunted by Dagon... Sure, he'd occasionally gotten himself a couple seconds to kill Daedra, but he hadn't thought it was enough to level up.

He'd have to test it all out when he'd gotten back to Winterhold and found time... For now, he wanted to check what new Spirits awaited him... And no, he wasn't just using this opportunity to rest in the crater for a while... Mostly.

The first thing about the list that was presented to him was the ranks name... Demigod Tier. Yeah, he was in the big-leagued now... Kinda. Anyway, the first champion in the list was :

Abaddon, a hero in Dota 2 that specialized in tanking and support. His abilities were both offensive and defensive from what Michael could remember. Dealing damage or healing, protecting or damaging. Most notable among his abilities was his ultimate, which was a passive that, upon receiving lethal damage, activated and caused all subsequent damage to heal Abaddon, essentially making him immortal for the duration. A very good choice that could round off Michael's deficiencies.

Bloodseeker, better known to Michael as the red racecar of doom. In the game, this hero was essentially just Sonic the Hedgehog on crack with knives, who got faster and stronger whenever an enemy was low on health, along with always being aware of where they were. Michael wasn't really sure how that would translate in real life, as if it was directly ported that'd make him aware of every low health, bleeding, and sick person everywhere at once.

Brewmaster, a drunk panda dude who could split himself into three spirits... Yeah, his kit was pretty random and Michael wasn't exactly sure why he was listed as a 'Demigod'...

Death Prophet, a ghost girl who could drain the life outta people, summons an army of angry spirits, silence, and damage. The only thing she really lacked was supportive abilities. All in all, a good option.

Enchantress, a deer centaur-thing which could enthral monsters, heal, and from Michael could remember, was so enchanting that enemy heroes literally couldn't bring themselves to harm her...

Invoker, why this guy was higher ranked than Rubick was a mystery, but all Michael could remember about this hero was the blind Sunstrikes that'd make him throw his monitor across the room in frustration. This hero didn't have the usual four abilities, instead, Invoker was able to summon three different orbs that could be combined to achieve a number of spells depending on the combination itself... Complicated? Yeah, Michael literally needed a cheat sheet of combinations to actually play the damn hero...

The guy was literally called the 'Arsenal Mage' due to just how many spells he knew, among the list being summoning Tornados, Meteor Strikes, or even just turning Invisible. And this was only in Dota 2, Michael had no idea the depth of Invoker's actual knowledge... Yeah, he was a very good pick.

Anyway, next was Lion, a 'Demon Witch, whatever that meant. All Michael remembered was the dude being able to suck the mana from enemies and cast 'Finger of Death' which was basically just a more powerful version of Lina's Laguna Blade, primarily due to its ability to stack damage depending on many people it'd killed... This damage stack was permanent by the way... Yeah.

Lone Druid, two heroes in one when you consider the fact that his summoned bear could use items as well, meaning in the game he could use double the number of items a regular hero could. Not that this meant much in reality... He was basically a better version of Lycan, being able to transform into a bear and pummel people into bite-sized pieces.

Magnus, a rhino thing that wielded a spear and controlled the forces of magnetism. A shame he wasn't anywhere near as powerful as the Elder Scrolls 'Magnus'. His most useful abilities in Michael's opinion was the buff he could cast and his ultimate, Reverse Polarity, which would pull in and stun any nearby enemies for a pretty ridiculous amount of time. The combo potential was amazing, though, you needed to be pretty close to land the ability.

Medusa, a half-snake woman with snake hair and snake abilities... Did he mention the snakes? Yeah, anyway. She could be classified as an archer-mage, though, Michael was more interested in her spells than her archery, primarily the Mana Shield that blocked damage in exchange for mana, which was pretty broken. Not to mention her ultimate, which would turn enemies facing her to stone. Gooood pick, especially for him who would eventually have infinite mana.

Monkey King, a Monke with a staff that had abilities suspiciously similar to Sun Wukong. Whether this was intentional Micahel didn't know, indeed, he didn't know much outside of the Hero's basic kit. He was primarily a melee brawler who did massive damage while regenerating health. He was also agile, with an ultimate that summoned many stationary copies of himself that'd attack nearby enemies.

Nature's Prophet, or the poster boy for 'Rat-Dota'. His ability to teleport literally anywhere whenever he wanted and summon an army of trees made him infuriating to deal with, whenever you or someone on your team went to chase him, he'd already be gone, along with most of your buildings due to the summoned trees. He also had a global ultimate ability that gained damage the more people it hit, though, it only had a limited number of hits so it was kinda hard to use with max efficiency.

Night Stalker, a big blue bat vampire-thing that got super overpowered during the nighttime, who also had the ability to make it nighttime whenever he wanted. His abilities were all centred on scaring the shit outta people from what Michael could tell. A good pick if he ever decided to become a vampire, which wasn't actually a bad idea when he thought about it... The only issue was dealing with Molag Bal owning his soul... Something to think about in future.

Chapter 473: Fiending

Oracle, Michael wasn't entirely familiar with just what this hero did, but he knew he was essentially a fortune teller with the power over fate... With abilities that both healed and damaged, granted defensive buffs, or even temporarily stop someone's death. Still, it wasn't as strong a choice as the others.

Shadow Demon, a support hero that was quite popular in the competitive Dota 2 scene from what Michael remembered, that didn't mean it was a perfect pick however. His abilities didn't really mesh together that well, while they could be combo'd together, they didn't really do all that much, aside from setting up opportunities for your allies.

Shadow Fiend, yeaaaah, the good ole' pub-stomper shows his face. He remembered this hero from his first game of Dota 2, when a Shadow Fiend somehow got max level and max items before fifteen minutes, one-shotting everyone and ending the game before anyone could do anything. Somehow though, the hero itself wasn't broken. It was balanced, kind of weak in the early game but had enough scaling to quickly get crazy.

Shadow Fiend's abilities were all based on one thing, damage. His spells could one-shot you when combined, his passive literally let him steal the souls of those he killed while boosting his damage, and his ultimate used those souls to deal even more damage. If it was only for the ability to steal souls, Michael would be leaning towards picking Shadow Fiend anyway.

Spectre, another super hard-carry, which essentially had to babysat the whole game until she levelled up enough to one-shot the enemy team. Super tanky, manoeuvrable, great damage, and the only thing holding her back was her lacking mana... Which wasn't really a problem for Michael. The only issue he could foresee is actually meeting Spectre, as she didn't seem to be able to talk, like, at all.

Spirit Breaker the 'Space Cow' as dubbed by the community... He deals more damage the faster he is, stuns people on hit, and can charge someone on the other side of the map to ruin their day. You knew you were screwed if you spotted the space cow charging in your general direction while you were out of position... Still, Michael wasn't sure how his charge would work in reality. You couldn't click on someone hundreds of miles away in real life after all.

Terrorblade, a demon who was so scary that he got sent to super hell, a prison inside hell... His abilities were all based around mirrors, or something like that. Conjuring copies of himself , conjuring copies of enemies, transforming into a massive kick-ass demon-thing, or swapping his health with others. Kinda cool.

Tiny, whose name is quite literally the opposite of his skill set. Tiny is a stone elemental-thing that grows bigger over the course of the game. His abilities are literally about causing avalanches, tossing people into the stratosphere, or hitting people with trees. The only issue Michael could see is the fact that the 'growth' ability isn't able to be disabled, meaning he might just turn into the Colossal Titan in Attack on Titan and permanently stay that way...

Visage, a gargoyle-thing that has what could only be called 'adaptive defence' along with a spell that did more damage based on the damage people took around him. The only ability Michael firmly remembered was his summons, which would fly around and annoy people. Other than that the hero was a bit lacklustre.

Wraith King, formerly known as Skeleton King, an undead guy who summons other undead, uses 'Wraith Fire', crits people on hit, and literally reincarnates when he dies. Honestly, Michael would've thought about picking him were he not already able to 'Respawn' without the Spirit's aid. Not to mention how annoying it would be to converse with a 'King'...

Dawnbreaker, one of the newest heroes... She was essentially a big ass paladin golem woman. She was essentially the humanoid version of Meridia's Dawnbreaker artifact, using light magic, fire, and her big ass hammer to hit fools. She could also heal, and had a global ultimate that let her crashland anywhere she wanted. One to think about if he ever had a gigga-undead guy that desperately needed killing... Wink wink, nudge-nudge?

All in all, the list presented to him had way more potential than any other he'd seen... Which was expected given the higher rank. He had a number of options, but right now he was leaning towards three, who he thought would all work well together.

Shadow Fiend, Spectre, and Medusa. Having each of them would massively increase his combat abilities, he'd become almost unkillable with Medusa's shield and Spectre's passive Dispersion. Out of all of them though, he was most curious of Shadow Fiend's ability to steal and manipulate souls. So that was what he was going to go with first.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Spirit : Shadow Fiend

Level : 1

Abilities :

Subsume Soul (Rank 0) : Allows user to devour a soul in his possession, granting some attributes it originally possessed. The chance of gaining anything from a soul is determined by the soul's strength and the ability's Rank.

Shadow Raze (Rank 0) : Calls forth a blast of demonic energy to harm targets in an area, can be cast thrice in quick succession but only at varying distances. Enemies hit by multiple Shadow Raze's will take bonus damage.

Necromastery (Rank 1) : Allows user to steal the souls of those he kills, stored souls grant an increase in Strength when held up to a limit determined by user's intelligence and ability rank. User loses all stored souls when killed.

Presence of the Dark Lord (Rank 0) : User's presence now causes enemies' armour and defences to be weaker, the enemies themselves will find themselves less durable than before.

Requiem of Souls (Rank 0) : User utilises his stored souls to cast a demonic explosion that damages, slows, reduces magical resistance, and terrorizes enemies when struck. Requiem of Souls will automatically be cast when user dies.

Chapter 474: Triumphant Return...?

Michael looks over the abilities and smiles to himself, yet another ridiculously powerful spirit to add to his growing power base. The ability to collect and devour souls was a scary one, which was made even more apparent to Michael when the knowledge of how to use the skill burrowed its way into his mind... He could only describe it as truly... Demonic.

Now this wasn't surprising given that Shadow Fiend was literally a demon, but he was sure anyone who'd see him doing it would be at best scared or worried, and at worst disgusted enough to instantly demand a crusade against him...

Still, he wasn't planning on stealing souls in front of anyone he didn't already absolutely trust, nor was he going to leave survivors to start spreading rumours about him.

He flips open the now named Book of Demigods to Shadow Fiend's page, quickly spotting the realistic portrait of the demon. Unlike in the game which made Shadow Fiend look somewhat goofy, right now he looked like a horrific mass of shadow bathed in crimson light, that occasionally let slip the face of a soul that was trapped within the being.

Shadow Fiend couldn't really be called humanoid, or any of the sort... Even the being's mouth and eyes were just held that held shining crimson lights. Needless to say, he wasn't looking forward to meeting the Spirit when he had the chance.

Finally, he decided to access the roulette wheel to see what items he'd find this time. Most of the items he had weren't all that useful... His Flamecloak was more than useless in the Deadlands, the Blink Dagger wouldn't function due to the constant burning you experienced... Even his Phase Boots were a little useless when Dagon could just teleport in front of him...

Shaking his head, he just spins it, not expecting anything of worth to appear.

Holy Locket, an artifact that gains charges when spells are used nearby it. It can expel the charges to heal and supply mana to someone. It also passively boosts the users stats.

Wind Lace, makes the user slightly faster... Preeeetty trash.

Hand of Midas, turns a target into gold... Nice? Not all that useful considering that he had a Philosopher's Stone passively generating gold for him anyway...

Michael stores the items in his inventory, he'd hand some stuff out when he got back, maybe he could play everything off as him taking a small vacation or something... Yeah, no, that wasn't going to work.

"Well, time to get back and face the thunder then." he mutters as he slowly gets to his feet, beginning to cast Dimension Gate again to return to Winterhold.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Upon his return to Winterhold Michael was first greeted by the sight of his Spire that was basically completed, only requiring the final touches, along with the Eye of Magnus... Oh, he should probably check on that, shouldn't he?... Eh, he'd get to it once he'd found the girls, it couldn't be too bad right?

The next thing he was greeted with was a few stone towers that were being constructed by the workers that lacked any jobs now that his Spire was basically done.

They weren't even a quarter built yet, but there were already ballistae positioned near each site, as if they were ready and waiting for a threat to appear. The siege weapons were created by Skyrend of course, meaning that his business had picked up, especially since Winterhold, one of the smallest and most isolated places had bought some.

He continues walking around Winterhold in search of the girls, eventually spotting Tiffania walking back from the 'Eredar District' as it had started being called.

She looks at him and continues walking, only to do a doubletake to finally recognise him. "M-Michael!" she exclaims, rushing forward and dive-bombing him in a hug. "Where have you been!? It's been weeks since you disappeared!"

"Would you believe me if I said 'On vacation?'" he asks and chuckles when she punches him on the arm a couple times.

She then grabs his face and looks over his face with a worried expression, "What happened to your eyes... And your hair!"

Ah, she's talking about Auroth's Blood Gift... The changes didn't just extend to his hair and eyes, he'd started to grow small thin scales around his forearms, elbows, shins and knees. Thankfully, that appeared to be the extent of it... For now at least. "I may have had a haircut..." he jokes while catching the girl in a tight hug, incredibly happy to finally be back and out of Dagon's grasp.

She pouts as she hears his answer, "I'll get the others so we can talk... But first." she grabs his arm and starts dragging him to the inn. "You need to make up for all the trouble you've caused me!"

...

He grins, "Sure, you know I'd never say no to that..."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It's half a day later that the rest of the group finally realised that Michael was back... And that was only because of the numerous complaints the inn had received due to the sounds coming from his room. He and Tiffania had forgotten to use any silencing spells in their haste...

Anyway, Michael and a red-faced Tiffania sat down with everyone else, Maria, Saya, Megumin, and Illococoo, before he told them anything however, he made sure to ask the most important question. "What happened to Saarthal?"

"Ah... That's what you first say? No 'Sorry for ditching you all with no prior notice' or anything?" Saya asks in bafflement.

Michael shakes his head, "No, that comes after you answer my question first. Saarthal is a big fucking deal, tell me what happened and I'll tell you how I ended up in literal hell." he shortly says, not wanting to dance about the subject matter, even with how happy he was to see them all.
