Chapter 2: Paths Crossed

KAI'S POV

I don't know where I sent myself but I had to get out of there. I used most of my energy just trying to keep up with his speed. It probably wasn't the best idea to leave him alive, but he deserves to suffer the same as I did. I planned it all knowing that I'll have to live the rest of my life on the run. Always looking over my shoulder, but I didn't care. Fuck the agreement we had. He brought this upon himself. Him and his so-called royal family of purebreds. They believed that they could do anything. From straight out slaughtering entire villages, to torturing their own people on the streets. They had to be stopped and I was the only one willing to do something about it. Even the councils were too busy pissing themselves and bending over for the family to save their people from suffering. They thought that they were untouchable. My blades disagreed.

For years I've trained for this battle but still, I was no match for a purebred demon like him. So I had to run away. If I stayed any longer I would've died. Still, this isn't any better. As weak as I am now I won't be able to heal my wounds. I could feel the warm blood oozing down my side and I know that can't be a good sign. I pressed my jacket against the wound trying to at least calm down the bleeding. This is no good. That bastard took a chunk out of my body! It amazes me that I'm still alive. Still, being wounded and helpless in an unknown place is dangerous. Judging by how dark it is, it must be night because I can't see shit. It didn't help that my eyes felt heavy and the air was thick making it hard to breathe. My body refused to move. The exhaustion was finally wearing me down.

My back was pressed against what felt like some kind of stone. I tried glancing around to figure out where the hell I ended up. The area was small and hidden, I knew it had to be an alley. Tucked away behind some large rancid bags. And all I could hope for was that the puddle I was sitting in was just water. Please let it be water. I'm not really into golden showers if you know what I'm talking about.

Yeah nasty.

I turned my head to what I assumed was the street. Loud cars beeped and sped on by. Other beings rested on the ground across from me. Covered in plastic bags and paper. I also noticed some of the other beings looking a bit rough, were there walking in the middle of the streets holding signs. But the one who clearly had it good just kept their gazes high and ignoring the begging ones. At least every realm has something in common.

There was a thin sheet of ice on the ground that wasn't completely frozen. The cold air chilled my bones. This must be the human realm. I've visited here a couple of times just enjoying the festivities and the entertainment down at the brothel houses. I gotta say, these girls here are truly talented.

"Hello?" A small voice brought me out from my beautiful daydream.

"Are you okay?"

I looked up to see a little girl wearing a backpack dressed in saggy black sweat pants. Her yellow shirt poked out from underneath her red sweater. Her face was messed up like she just got the shit beat out of her. A large bruise covered her eyebrow and her lip was cut. The little girl's short black hair reminded me of her. One of the many who I failed to save. The one whose name I cannot say.

"G-get out of here." I strained to speak.

"Oh no, you're hurt!" She ran up to me without a second thought.

How stupid is this kid?

"S-stay away from me or I w-will kill you." I flashed my copper eyes at her.

She stopped and stared at me. But not in fear, in confusion.

"What's your name?"

"Go away." I tried to sit myself up against the wall.

"My name is Ben." She smiled at me like we were friends.

"F-fuck off kid." I groaned clutching my side as the cold air stung my wounds.

"Ooo you said a bad word." She giggled.

"Fu-ah!" I jerked opening my wound more.

"Here." The girl takes off her bag and pulls out a pair of scissors. She shuffled out of her sweater and started cutting away at it.

I have no idea what she is trying to do but I have no other choice.

I have to kill her.

Blyne can use her sight to find me. He did it once before and I can't let that happen again. Not yet. There was barely any strength left in me but I was able to weakly conjure up a little bit of power. At least enough to painlessly, for the lack of better words, put her ass to sleep.

The electricity ran through the tips of my fingers. Making them glow as I extended my hand to her.

"Don't worry I'll take care of you." She wrapped the strips of her used-to-be sweater around my torso. Making sure to bandage up my wound tightly.

My hand hovered over her head. Ready to end this little girl's life. But, my hand dropped to the ground. I couldn't do it. Maybe I was losing too much blood to focus. I need to conserve my energy anyway. But I couldn't help but wonder what this kid was thinking.

"Aren't you afraid of me?" I growled as she tied another piece of cloth around me.

"No. Why would I be?" She laughed like I said something stupid.

"Because I'm a demon." I pushed back my hair, exposing my horns. Trying to scare her away.

"Aren't we all." She smiles up at me and I don't know if it was the blood loss or the way the street lights shined behind her, but for a moment there she looked a little like an angel. Considering I've never seen one, I assume she's the closest there is to one.

I could feel my consciousness slipping away from me. As I faded away there was only one thought that bounced around in my mind.

That this was one weird ass kid.
