When I woke up, Ronnie was cradling my head in her lap while Xander peered down from over her shoulder.
“Welcome back,” she said.
“Wha?” I was totally disoriented, with no real idea where I was or what I was doing.
“I’ll admit it,” said Xander, “I thought you were a goner.”
I lifted my head and then immediately dropped it right back down into my sister’s lap. The whole world was spinning and I had a strong desire to throw up.
“Take it easy,” she said.
I nodded at both of her faces swimming in front of my eyes. “What... what happened?”
She just smiled down at me. “You did it.”
Xander snorted. “That’s putting it mildly. He just saved the world.”
“The whole world?”
“More or less,” he said. “Saved the world, got rid of the bad guy, rescued the girl, the works.”
By now, I was back to seeing only one of everything, so I dared another rise up to a sitting position, this time succeeding. “The last thing I remember I was about to put the brain thing on my head.”
