How did such a magic exist? What kind of being would be able to do something like that? Changing one form to another was impressive as it was, but creating two entirely interconnected bodies that could be stored within each other, and combine at will that were perfectly attuned my mana core to the point that there was no difference in how my mana moved through the two bodies was hard to believe such a thing was possible. Then there was what happened to my body when it was stored. It was completely intact.
The damage I received on one body would be shared between the two. Any wounds I received would automatically lessen the first time I transformed after the wound was inflicted. Since my two bodies were technically two separate entities that meant with enough focus I could inscribe runes on the scales that were still connected to my body. I was trying to create a runic constellation that would fit on my individual scales. My outdated runes, and lack of proper runic knowledge made it difficult.
The fact that I would shed my scales made it seem like waste of time, but if I could boost my scales innate abilities I wanted to know. I could implement an affective constellation in bulk once I created it enough it would become something of a reflex. Like muscle memory, but more mental in nature. It wouldn't take me too long to inscribe my scales once I found the right runic constellation to inscribe. What should I do?
What runic constellation would be best in a fight? How long would it take to charge these runes? Would they even need to be charged? What function of my scales should I amplify? Defense?
Mana resistance? Mana conductivity? I needed to know what these runes were capable of individually. To figure that out all I needed to do was test them out. I needed to go to my inner world.
That was the quickest way for me to test it all out. I could accelerate time in my inner world, and it truthfully resembled the real world now. The effects my abilities had on the real world would be reflected perfectly there. Although the weather there was effected by my emotions as well. Lately it had been full of blazing hot sunlight that had withered the grass, and made the plant life look sad.
A healthy balance of emotions was needed to keep my mind in a good state. I frowned to myself as I looked around at the empty road. Something had triggered my spatial senses. Something that wasn't a beast. This creature was moving with purpose, and my senses couldn't quite lock onto whatever this thing was.
My spatial senses were too sensitive to be blocked entirely. They were being blocked though. I knew that for a fact. I stood up on the back of the bird. Sekka paid attention when I appeared alert.
The act of jumping to my feet drew attention to me. That wasn't the whole point though. I wanted our enemy to know I knew of him as well. If I was alert to his presence then he would wait to attack for a time when we would naturally be less alert. They'd wait for night.
I stood atop the moving bird without the slightest disturbance to my balance. I scanned our surroundings cautiously. I was looking for visual confirmation of what was following us. I couldn't sense it's shape using my spatial senses alone. Just the fact that it didn't charge straight at us, and it was completely alone was enough to tell me all I needed to know.
More then likely this creature was an elf. He followed us until the daylight started to fade. We were slowing to make camp so it made sense for him to split off to let his comrades. We had two or three hours left until true darkness fell. I knew it was somewhat dangerous, but I decided to just inscribe a simple three rune structure.
This rune structure was simple enough that I could inscribe the vast majority of my scales in the next few hours. The rune structure was reflect harmful mana in that order. Linked together they reinforced each other. Although that wasn't the exact translation it was the closest I could manage with the human language. I planned to use my dragon form a bit.
I wanted to test the effect inscribing my scales would have. I didn't know how effective something like that might be, but I had to find out. Technically scratching my scales counted as damaging my body, but it was no different then damaging a fingernail. Harmless to the main body, but since it counted as damage the effect might be transferred to my main body. Which means the runic structures might be transferred to my body as well.
If that were true then I would have an invisible suit of armor or something similar on my body at all times. Even if it was slightly less effective that would be worth the time it took to create the rune structure. Even if the effect went away every single time I shed my scales. It would still be worth it to have that extra layer of protection. I wanted to see the effect for myself.
I would only be able to do maybe half of my scales in those few hours. I would have to focus my mind to pull it all off. That meant drawing my senses away from my spatial senses. That required me to rely on my weakened barrier. I didn't like that crappy barrier, but if it gave me a bit more time to do what I wanted to do.
Plus the barrier made more sense me just knowing when they came at me. The barrier would shatter once a single powerful attack hit it. I'd be alerted once the barrier shattered. It would light up the entire area around us. Which would alert everything in the area.
