I yawned as we waited outside for Savannah to get back. I could tell she wasn't that far from us. It was better for us to wait instead of seeking her out. I stopped mid yawn when my danger sense went off. I wasn't the one that was in danger.
It was Savannah. She was in danger. I took off at a full sprint. I jarred some people in my desperate attempt to cross the settlement to where Savannah was. Shouting out apologies each time I did.
I spotted Savannah with an angry student grabbing her armor. My punch landed high on his cheekbone. His head snapped to the side, and he lost his grip on Savannah.
"Don't touch her!" I snapped.
Stopping just in front of Savannah. All thoughts of exhaustion were driven from my mind. His team looked stunned. I didn't recognize any of them. Ethan was trying to catch up to me.
I didn't really care. Who the hell cared who these fuckers were? They touched Savannah.
"Holy shit," The guy I just punched rounded on me, "It's another one of the top ranked team members."
"Top ranked?" I cocked my head, "Really?" I snorted, "We didn't even do that much. A few tier five's, and a bunch of small fry. Nothing much."
"Nothing much," he practically snarled back at me, "You guys are sitting pretty in the number two slot."
"I don't really care," I yawned slowly as my eyes wandered over the rest of his team, "I didn't even know there was a leaderboard." I snapped my focus back to him, "Touch any of my team again, and I will make you regret it."
He swung at me, and I casually stepped back to watch him miss me. I stepped back in after his punch missed me, and my hand darted in to grip his throat. I lifted him off the ground slowly.
"Don't push me," I had to hold back a growl, "You're already on my shit list. Push me any further, and you'll need a really good healer."
I dropped him like the pathetic loser he was. He folded to the ground as he tried to get air back into his lungs. Ethan caught up to us about that time.
"What did you take off for?" Ethan slowly caught his breath.
"Savannah sent me a message," I turned away from the whole group, "Let me know she was in trouble."
I eyed them over my shoulder right quick with my cold blue eye. None of them looked like they were going to try anything stupid with their leader on the ground. We walked away from them calmly as I felt my exhaustion start to set back in. We left the settlement walls without incident, but there were way more eyes on us than I wanted.
"We need to be good, and clear of everyone before we relax," I whispered to Savannah.
Ethan already had a rough idea of of what I was thinking so I didn't need to explain it to him. We stayed tense until we were far enough from all other groups that even my infrared couldn't pick up. I went ahead, and cautiously switched forms before climbing up a tree to take a nap. I curled up in the upper branches, and went into a light sleep. One that I could easily be woken up from.
If anything happened to either of my bonded it would bring me straight back to full awareness. I didn't wake up until a few hours later, and our whole group had a few more low tier crystals in our stash. I twitched my wings as I came down out of the tree slowly. I darted off in front killing all the low tier beasts that got near me. If I ran into something that was higher than tier three I waited for Savannah, and Ethan.
Then we took it out together. I tried to test out my wings occasionally. I didn't think I was ready for any flying, but I knew they would work for me if I needed them.
"You should really fly more," Ethan whispered when they caught up to me again.
"Not a good idea here with this many people looking for beasts to hunt," I started stalking forward.
My attention focused on the three tier four beasts in front of me. They seemed to be different kinds of beasts living in a symbiotic relationship. One was a big armored grazing type of beast. One looked kind of like a saber-toothed cat, but with green, and brown tiger stripes. The third beast was like a predatory form of unicorn.
It had teeth pointing out of its maw in a bunch of random directions. Kind of creepy to see a killer unicorn. I rushed in first. Attacking the murder unicorn head on. Leaving the big cat to Ethan, and Savannah.
The big armored grazing beast wasn't very fast. Murder unicorn swiped at me with its horn. Trying to gouge out a piece of me. I leaned back, and swiped at its neck with my talons. The unicorns horn bounced off my scales.
My claws left four long gouges in the unicorns chest. My thumb claw didn't hit. I snorted, and coiled my muscles as murder unicorn jumped forward to bite me. I used its attack in my favor, and sunk my own teeth into its hide. Murder unicorn thrashed around screaming, and I dug my teeth in further.
It was then that I saw the weird looking fleshy bud in the base of murder unicorns neck. I clenched my teeth until they met, and yanked my head back suddenly. Ripping a huge chunk out of the beast. Grazer beast was slowly unfurling long tentacles. I was wrong.
I inhaled slowly. The armored beast was the one in charge this whole time. My lung reached full capacity about the time big armored beasts tentacles started thrashing around. I knew it was searching for more creatures to manipulate, but the only living things nearby right now that it could take control of was us. I breathed a stream of lightning into the beasts middle.
