Chapter 96: Monstrous

My gaze immediately went to him. He flinched when he saw my head snap around to look at him. I rushed him. He tried to run, but I was already on him before he could get far. One slash was all it took to take his head off.

My eyes locked on three others nearby. Two of them seemed to be fighting each other so I ignored them, and went after the third. He didn't see me coming as I circled wide around him. I couldn't keep taking hits. In the last round I'd taken quite a few hits before going down so my goal was to avoid taking too many hits.

I rushed towards the winner of the scuffle I'd observed earlier after I silently took out the guy I was going after. My hand went to the back of his head. Slamming him into the ground easily. I tensed the hand that was gripping his head crushing his head. It wasn't that I wanted to crush his head.

I just did because it was the quickest way to deal with him. My wings twitched as I rushed toward my next enemy. I'd taken out seven so far. One more would be just as many as the last round. I gave up on stealth, and focused on speed.

In the trees if was hard for them to keep track of me so I hadn't really needed stealth out here in the first place. My wings were tucked in tight to my body so I wouldn't have to worry about them catching on the trees. Three more fell quickly, and the round ended. I was thrown back into the white room once again. I'd only gotten ten of them.

"I should have gotten at least fifteen of them," My tail lashed back, and forth violently, "System my xp."

590/3200 xp out of 13.

I needed to move faster. The problem with free for all was my opponents were taking out my prey just as quickly as I was. I switched, and started another free for all round. I was thrown into destroyed city. Glancing around quickly I noticed that the city here was destroyed in a different way than the last time I'd been in destroyed city.

So the maps were basic, but they changed layout at least. First thing I did was switch forms, and rush into the fray. I came across a lone guy pretty quickly, and tore him in half. My wings twitched as I tensed to jump. I snapped them open the instant I jumped, and brought my wings down hard.

Propelling myself skyward, and held my place in the sky for a few seconds. That was all it took for me to map out where everyone was on the map. I dropped out of the sky right on top of another one. There was another one close by. I quickly located him by scanning the area with my infrared.

Muscles bulging as I tensed to run right for him.

"You make three," I snarled as I closed on him.

I knew I was giving away my position by snarling, but that just added to the excitement. My wings flared as I watched him panic. The way he squirmed as I came down on him was both exciting, and disturbing at the same time. Hard to believe that I was like this not all that long ago. I leapt into the sky again.

Only this time I planned to actually do something while I was up here. I needed to learn how to use my wings for aerial combat. Even if it was one sided aerial to ground combat. I swooped down, and picked up someone who was in a fairly clear area. I almost crashed into him when I didn't pull out of the dive quickly enough.

"Four," I snapped him up in my jaws as I skidded to a stop on the ground.

Crushing him in my mouth was easy, and then back up I went. People would catch on to what I was doing soon enough. Drop down claw someone to death, and back up. Only this time I didn't almost slam into the ground. Gaining altitude back without propelling myself off the ground with a jump was much harder than I'd expected so I wasn't able to get as high as I wanted to.

I got to the point where I was barely over the tops of the shorter buildings, and that's where I was able to hold it. Looked like I really need this kind of practice. I was basically just relying on instinct to keep me in the air. There wasn't any skill behind any of my flying. My flying really needed some work in a real life setting.

I scoped out three more nearby players. I didn't want them to kill each other though so what could I do to stop them. They needed to fear loosing to me more than they wanted to win. So why not let them know that there was a bigger enemy they had to worry about? I roared as loud as I could.

Adding wind to the sound to spread it as far as I possibly could. This was still a game setting so there was a good chance they would just ignore me, and keep trying to win, but at the very least such a loud terrifying roar would distract them. Dropping into the upper branches of the virtual trees, and onto the ground made quite a bit of noise. I could tell by the way the three nearby outlines whipped around to look my way that they had heard me hit the ground. It didn't take much convincing to get humans to team up against stronger enemies most of the time.

Problem was that most human's would flee if they came face to face with an enemy they believed they couldn't beat. In a game they might face them head on because there were very few consequences for dying, but most of these kids would choose to run if they came across me in the real world. It was just another way that VR wasn't quite as accurate as real life. Rushing towards the three of them as they all focused on me, and began firing. They wouldn't last long, I thought to myself as I managed to dodge around most their shots while still closing in.
