Chapter 87: Chapter 87: Provisional Hero License Exam (I)

The days of training passed by quickly while Shido enjoyed himself with the accompaniment of Eri.

Soon, the day where his students' provisional hero licensing exam had arrived!

As the bus screeched into a stop, Aizawa said in his usual dull voice as he got off the bus, "Everyone out, we're here."

"This is where you will be tested, the Takoba National Stadium!" Shido announced as he looked towards the majestic arena.

The Takoba National Stadium was a modern building. It is large enough to accommodate several hero students and various environmental settings for simulation purposes.

"Getting nervous now." Jiro sweated a little as she looked towards where Shido was pointing at.

"Still no clue what this test is about. Can we really earn our licenses?" Mineta was fretting about while Izuku looked around nervously.

"Mineta. It's not a matter of can. You will." Aizawa encouraged as he bent forward unstably from the lack of sleep.

Seeing Aizawa's sudden actions, Mineta was startled and immediately replied, "R-R-Right, of course!!"

"Earn your provisional licenses by passing this test, and you won't be mere eggs anymore..." Shido said.

The class smiled at his support before indignance filled their faces after hearing his next words.

"...but fully-fledged hatchlings...reborn as semi-pros!"

"What! I'm still a hatchling?! I refuse to believe that!" Katsuki shouted.

"Not my problem. If you want to be like me, to roam around freely and use my quirk whenever I want, you can try." Shido shrugged his shoulders and replied before turning his attention to the rest of the class.

"Anyway, I believe all of you will be one step close to your dreams after today. So show them your best."

"Yeah! We're gonna hatch from those eggs!!"

"Time for our cheer!"

Class 1-A was about to cheer when Shido spotted someone familiar sneaking up behind them. Sensing no ill-intent from the boy, he didn't point it out and let him do whatever he wanted to do.

"Plus..."

"...ULTRA!!"

Kirishima started the cheer, but it was a stranger who ended it.

"It's bad manners to intrude on another group's huddle. Inasa." A young man spoke with his hands behind his back. The young man had a fairly average height with small, slanted eyes and a straight purple fringe, parted on his right to cover his left eye. Around the back of his head, his hair is fluffier, sticking out in small tufts.

"Ah, you got me!" Inasa wasn't bothered by the other person's words and immediately apologised...in a weird fashion.

Moving his head backward and taking in a deep breath, he started shouting, "I am so..."

Locking his arms to his side in a very rigid manner, he continued, "...very..."

Finally, he ended his actions by slamming his head to the floor, all while keeping his hands tucked by his side.

"...sorry!!!"

The slam was so loud that everybody who was nearby immediately looked at him in horror and shock.

"Who's this whacked-out big ball of excitement?!" Kaminari asked while Sero commented, "He's like Iida plus Kirishima, squared...!"

'This boy...' Aizawa thought in his head.

"You just thought 'this boy...', right?" Shido asked mischievously as he looked at Aizawa's slightly surprised face.

"You..." Aizawa glared at Shido before sighing, "Fine. This was the boy who just left before even taking the UA entrance exam.

[A/N: This was mentioned in the earlier chapters. I'm not following canon for this.]

"Indeed. It seems that he transferred to Shiketsu highschool instead." Shido stated as he looked at the uniform that Inasa and his seniors were wearing.

"I just always wanted to try saying it!! Plus ultra!! I freakin' love UA High!!" Inasa said with a laugh and a glare, two completely opposite attributes together in one facial expression.

"It is truly an honor to compete alongside the fine students of UA!!" Inasa continued while his seniors started to leave, leaving him behind.

"Do you know him, sensei?" Toru asked Aizawa as she saw his thoughtful expression.

"He's really, really enthusiastic. But from what he's saying, he actually seems like a nice dude." Kirishima gave his opinion.

"Inasa Yoarashi. He's powerful." Aizawa said nothing more and looked towards Shido.

Shido saw his gaze and sighed, "Yoarashi. This year, he got placed into your grade at UA special recommendation. However, for some reason, before the practical test started, he decided not to take it anymore and decided to enter Shiketsu instead."

Shido looked towards his students and gave them a smile, "Don't get me wrong. He's really, really, strong. If he had chosen to participate in the exam, not even Todoroki would be able to beat him."

Although there wasn't any physical data or proof, nobody questioned Shido as they trusted him with their given information.

Sero looked at him with a weird gaze and questioned, "This guy says he's a big fan of UA, but he decided to quit before even the practical exam? I don't get it."

"Weird or not, he's the real deal. Keep an eye on him."

Before the class could reply to his severe warning, a voice interrupted and put Aizawa into an alert state.

"Eraser?! Is that really you, Eraser?!"

Aizawa turned his head robotically towards the source of the voice.

A young woman of a strong athletic build with noticeably muscular arms arrived before them and started waving her hands enthusiastically.

She has sea-green hair that reaches just past her shoulders and short fringe with splayed ends, which was obscured by her bandana. She has dark green eyes with bright pupils, but her most prominent feature is her unwaveringly joyous smile.

The moment Aizawa laid his eyes on her, his already gloomy expression turned even more tragic.

"Let's get married!"

"No thanks." Aizawa replied to her with any hesitation present.

"No thanks?! Just do it!" The woman wasn't discouraged by the disinterest that Aizawa showed and continued to ask him.

"You're the same pain in the neck as always, Joke." Aizawa glared at her and stated.

"Hello, Joke-sensei! Long time no see." Shido waved at her and gave her the most innocent smile he could muster.

"Kya!!" Joke screamed like a little girl and immediately hugged Shido, bringing him close to her as possible while Izuku gave a little context about Joke.

"Marry me, and we could build a happy household where the laughs never stop. We could even have a kid like this!!" Joke exclaimed as she held Shido towards Aizawa, "See how cute this kid looks?!"

"Nothing about that sounds happy to me." Giving his usual cynical comments, he glared at Shido and continued, "Especially if the kid I have is Shido."

""UGH!"" Joke and Shido both made a defeated face before facing each other and laughing out loud.

Shido and Joke had a good relationship, brought together by the joy of teasing the ever-gloomy Aizawa.

"So the two are friends?" Tsuyu asked as she pointed between Joke and Aizawa.

"Our agencies were close by, way back then! I'd save him a few times, and he'd save me. We fell in love, and you know how it goes..." Joke covered her face and turned towards Tsuyu and replied.

"It went nowhere." Aizawa interjected before Tsuyu can reply to Joke's lies.

"So your school's here too?" Shido asked while still in her arms.

"Teasing Eraser with you is always good for a laugh, Shido. And yeah! Come on over, everyone! Come meet UA!" Joke laughed and turned her attention to her incoming students.

"Whoa! It's really them!!"

"Wowee! All those guys from TV!"

"Taking this test as first-years? Pretty fast-paced, huh? Well, with everything that's happened...no wonder they're so capable."

Four students, consisting of three boys and one girl, came up and greeted them enthusiastically.

"This is class 2-2 of Ketsubutsu Academy! Say hello to my students."

The first guy was very enthusiastic and bright, moving around and continuously shaking each student's hand as he talked non-stop.

The second girl was equally enthusiastic as she tried getting autographs from Izuku and Shoto.

As the two classes mingled with each other, the three students stood by them and watched.

"Hey! Change into your costumes. The info session's about to start...so stop wasting time!" Aizawa didn't appreciate the noise level and told them.

"It's like...meeting these other schools is a good reminder."

"Yup. We're practically celebrities."

Hearing what Kiminari and Jiro said, Joke's laughter disappeared for the first time.

"Did you....not tell them, Shido?" She turned towards Shido, who was in her arms and asked seriously.

Shido gave her a mysterious smile and didn't say anything.

"Haha! Keep your secrets then!" She stared for a while before laughing, "But you have to tell me later!"

While the students headed towards the info session, the teachers proceeded to the viewing platform. In this test, the teachers were not participating at all (obviously).

While Shido made their way to the audience seats, Shido took a good look at the middle of the arena. No matter how many times Shido looked at it, he was still amazed at the sheer space that this place occupied.

There was an industrial area, high-rise buildings, residential area, mountainous area, and even a waterfall area — all within one arena.

The trio soon found a perfect spot and sat down, with Shido settling down comfortably between Joke and Aizawa.

"Eraser. Your fly's down." Joke said out of nowhere as she covered her mouth and started laughing.

'Why am I constantly surrounded by obnoxious fools?' Aizawa thought in annoyance as he glared at Shido and Joke.

"Anyway, you've still got all twenty, huh?" Joke's laughter stopped, but her smile remained as she took a look at the box which had just opened up.

"It's a rare year when you don't fail anyone. I guess you must be fond of this class."

"Not really."

"Are you a tsundere?" Shido asked as he saw Aizawa's face turned a little red.

"Huh? Blushing, are we? So lame! Makes me wanna date you!!" Joke laughed out loud.

"Shove it."

"Pretty weird if that's true, though. Ahahahaha..." Joke continued laughing, not stopping once just to see Aizawa's annoyed facial expression.

As the countdown for the start of the test started, Joke lost her laughter. She said in a serious tone as she observed all the students below, "The format might be different every year, but this exam...had one thing you could call a 'tradition'.

Of all the schools competing here today, there's only one that has lost the advantage of having unknown quirks. One top school whose students had their quirks, styles, and weaknesses exposed to the world, thanks to the sports festival.

If you like this class so much, you should've told them! This exam always starts off with...the UA crush!"

"The UA crush?" Shido repeated with confusion as he observed his students. Soon, he realised why it was called the 'UA crush'.

"I see...' Shido muttered as he saw all of his students being surrounded by every other student from different schools. Soon, his students were being bombarded with attacks from all angles.

"The UA crush, right...it's not like I didn't tell them for any particular reason. It's not going to change what they've got to do here." Aizawa replied in his dry voice, "They still have to overcome the odds."

This was Shido's third year of teaching, and unlike Aizawa, who had been teaching for years, Shido's class had never participated in this test until now.

Shido relaxed back on the chair as he told Joke, "If it's only that, then there would be no problems. It's a hero's job to turn the tables in a pinch. Once they go pro, it's a simple fact of life that their quirks will be known to all. No offense, but compared to the rest of you, we're looking towards the future."

None of them spoke as Joke digested Shido's words.

After a while, she gave a defeated sigh.

"I guess this is what sets UA apart from the rest, huh? Having great teachers guide their students to the future, never to the present nor the past."

"But of course, if I was down there, I would have first used Zafkiel and accelerate myself. Afterward, I just have to run around and destroy everyone." Shido added with a cheeky smile.

"Ahahaha, but that is why you're not a student, but a fully-fledged pro hero and teacher!"

*****************

A/N: The next world would have a more realistic view of the world. In this world, I had focused more on the positive side and had hardly mentioned all the shady things, but in the next world, there would be more realistic and darker things.

Shido's mentality would slowly change, but not that drastic. As the world travel progresses and he visits more worlds, his personality would somewhat be the same, only his mentality changing, though his morals would still be there. So no evil mc

And like I said, my release rate will be lowered...it's only the second week of school and I'm tired of school.
