Chapter 10: Time to make a holy order

Dalvin stirred from his slumber, his body was shaking. Sleepily he blinked his eyes, Alise was staring at him with her hands on his shoulders. She shook him again,"Dalvin wake up!" Groggy he brushed her off and sat up,"Is it morning already, its strange that I slept so long." he let out a big yawn."No, its still nighttime but I had to come see you I have a problem, a big problem." The sense of urgency in her voice sobered him up,"What happened, were there sudden changes in your body?" He began to look over her but could not spot any visible changes. "No, it's not that, I Have been found out. This body was too much to hide." Ah, now he understood the situation. He had thought it would be hard to hide,"So who found out, your parents?", She nodded,"So what did you tell them?" She explained what she had said and their reaction. Hmmm...this wasn't good. From what he saw on Alise's phone any religious implication could be bad. This world still incorporated a lot of emotion into their religions unlike his world but to be fair he couldn't blame them. There was a lot these people didn't know and the unknown often breeds emotion, mostly fear. The other option wasn't any better. If the scientific community got a hold of her, she would quickly become a prized test subject. There really were only two choices they could make,"My conclusion is that either we both go and try to convince your parents to remain silent, or you simply go into hiding and leave a note that would delay any aggressive counteraction." Alise frowned,"Can't you just erase their memory or something?","That is certainly possible but I lack the training in that particular field." she slumped,"I'm sorry, I messed this all up didn't I?" He placed a hand on her shoulder to comfort her," Its ok, this was going to happen sooner or later. It's not just your parents, in time the world will know. The question you need to ask yourself is, are you ready to handle it or would you rather wait till later?" Alise sat there for a while thinking before she finally answered,"I don't want to worry my parents but I'm afraid they will try to stop me. There is no way I can let go of the world you have shown me, I will learn first then tell them. What should I write in the note?" He considered everything she told them and the best way to not stray from that information."I would simply state that you are leaving to seek the truth. This will remove factors of danger outside of what they will feel from their child being in the world alone. Of course, they will look for you but I will ensure that their searching will be fruitless. You can put in personal feelings to but leave out anything that involves you personally. Ok?" Alise straitened up and patted her cheeks with her hands,"Ok I Can do this, get me something to write with." Dalvin frowned, all he had was simple paper and charcoal pencils. That would be odd in her world, and they must avoid any unnecessary suspicion. He reached under his bed and grabbed the Eye from its hiding place,"Come lets go to your house, you can get everything you need there." Alise protested,"what if we get caught." He gently patted the Eye," That will not happen, after all we have magic on our side." Alise smiled and patted the Eye as well,"Yea your right lets go."

When Alise informed him that they were getting close to her house Dalvin activated the basic recon field he had learned in the military. It was afield that wouldn't allow sound to escape or let light in except for a small circle that the fields user could slide around the surface of the field. Because it was night the area inside became almost pitch black because of the limited light. Alise gasped,"What did you do?","I'm diverting all sound within this sphere, so we will be silent, but don't yell it will be louder in here than normal. I'm also diverting most light, so we are invisible unless someone looks directly through this hole." Alise stared at the dark sphere in wonder,"Whoa that's pretty cool, but why is it so dark?"," You need light to see or be seen, this hole allows us to see because it is the only area light can get through the field, that is also why it is the only place we can be detected from. Sound is similar inside here we are basically deaf. Once inside your house I will remove the sound barrier so remember to be quiet." Alise nodded in understanding and the two of them made their way to her house. Once inside Alise wrote and left a note on the table in her kitchen, with that done she bid her parents a silent farewell, and they returned to the cave.

Inside the cave entrance Dalvin remover the source stone from the wall."What are you doing that for?", he handed her the stone,"With this removed on the outside it will appear to be just a cave. If they track you here through some unknown means, I want to leave no clues. You should keep that stone though, it will be your key to come and go from this place, so don't lose it." Her hand closed tightly around the stone,"So what now?" He patted her on the back,"That's simple, we train day and night. The sooner you can handle yourself the sooner you can see your family again. We should also consider the stance we will take when we present ourselves to the world.", she gave a half-hearted smile,"ok, but how long will that be, didn't you say it would take like a hundred years." He nodded,"Yes, normaly, but you are not normal." He explained to her what he had discovered studying her DNA.

"So basically you are saying my mind could be enhanced too, so how much time would that save? When could I go out again?" Dalvin shrugged,"It's hard to say, if the effect was comparable to your body I would say about twenty-five years. It could be more, it could be less." She shook her head,"That's too long Dalvin, I couldn't possibly be by myself that long." He could understand that, he often got lonely but was simply used to it at this point. If he made any exceptions for her the plan could be ruined. They both could die and the Eye would be taken. Should he consider abandoning her. He looked at Alise, she was walking beside him as they made their way to the main cavern. A feeling of guilt built up inside him, he had already pulled her this far into this, it would be cruel to cut her loose at this point. What could he do, he also could not afford for her to break down or lose her will at this point. The wheels in his mind went into overdrive.

As they entered the main cave he had reached a conclusion,"You said something about a holy order yes, well it wouldn't be much of an order with just one person. Is there anyone else you would trust to bring into our little cave. Also, you and the others you choose could write letters and I would deliver them. Then who knows mabey with several knights we could come out in a year or two. That's the best I can do." Even that was far more than he wanted to do, but for some reason this little girl had really grown on him. Perhaps he had spent far too much time alone. Alise smiled and hugged him,"Thanks Dalvin, I'll try to think of some people right away." He pushed her away, a little embarrassed,"Take your time, i would like you to train about a month first. That way you can at least catch the others up on the basics." She nodded happily.

The next month was hard for Alise, but she fought through it. For her physical training he had built a half-mile track that she had to lap twenty times. He had also installed several source stones, so he could randomly create hurdles for her to jump. In addition to that he constructed a climbing wall that was source powered as well, the holds on it would gradually appear and disappear. This would train her body and mind, also it would improve her source sense. After that she would train in hand-to-hand combat with him. During these lessons he would teach her how to temporarily boost her strength speed and reflexes with the source. Then she would study the basic elements, their composition and how to create them without a guidance mechanic. Finally they would train in live source combat after which they would eat and rest. This was her daily routine for the entire month, during which he had to admit she grew an impressive amount. It was time to bring in the new recruits." So Alise, ready to bring some friends in now.", she wiped sweat away from her forehead with a tow,"Yup, I got five people in mind, but what will we do if they don't want to come." Dalvin laughed,"You mean there are children who wouldn't run away from home to study magic, that's unthinkable." She shot him a dangerous look and an orb of fire sprung to life beside her. He waved his hands defensively,"Just kidding...well if they dont want to come we will just'disappear', let everyone make whatever conclusions they want. It will be impossible to do this without some information leaking." A devious smile formed on her lips,"Ok, but first I need you to help make some bait for my little fishes."

They stood concealed in town behind a large brick house beside a shed in the back yard. A young man walked from the house and entered the shed."That's Tim, he is eighteen, i don't know him very well, but we ride the same bus to school." Dalvin frowned,"So why choose him?","Thats easy, you said people we could trust. Tim is a total nerd, he spends all his free time working on computers and robots. Last year he entered a homemade drone into the school's science fair. He would totally sell his soul for forbidden technology." Dalvin sighed,"I really wish you wouldn't give everything I do such weird names." Alise slid the hooded robe she had him make on and checked to make sure her equipment was all in order, a habit she had formed over the last month,"Ok I'm going in." With that she left the concealment field and entered the shed closing its door behind her. Tim turned around from his work bench when he heard the door close. For as old as he was Tim wasn't very big. He had a slim almost frail frame, his brown hair was short and neatly kept and his brown eyes sat behind a pair of thick framed glasses. He adjusted the glasses on his nose with his index finger,"Who are....wait a second....Alise is that you?" A look of shock and surprise flooded his face. She pushed back her hood,"Indeed mortal, and now the time has come for you as well." He looked at her confused,"What the hell are you talking about and what have you been doing? Do you realize you are all over the tv and newspaper. Your parents are worried to death, half the down thinks your dead. Now you just show up to me of all people, talking nonsense." She raised a hand to cover the smile on her face. She didn't want to break character." Would you abandon everything and everyone to gain knowledge that surpasses this world?" He hesitated, then reached for his phone,"This is ridiculous I'm calling the police and you are going to stay right there." She placed a small cube in her hand and stretched it out towards him, then touched the source stone on it. A holographic image of the earth appeared in the air above the cube. The phone dropped to the ground, and he clasped her hand with his, his eyes going back and forth between the cube and the hologram." What...how...where did you find this?" Hook, line and sinker,"It's a simple question Tim, would you trade your life for knowledge beyond this world?" His face paled, and he swallowed hard,"Yes, I would." Alise gave an inward shout of triumph,"Then follow me."

In a similar manner she approached her other four targets. For Matty her best friend she had displayed some of her water magic skills. For John a model mech enthusiast, She had animated one of his models. Sarah a girl who she knew loved fighting anime, Alise had shown a segmented sword that Dalvin had made, the blade would extend and move under her control. Last was Eric a comic book fan, she had Dalvin prepare a mask that temporarily boosted all his physical abilities when she activated it. At the end of the day the town was short five more kids. Alise knew this would probably get national attention, but she also knew it would be next to impossible for them to find her or the others.

They all entered the cave and walked to the back of it, as they approached the dead end Tim spoke up,"What now, there is nothing here." Alise smiled and looked at them, then she quoted from her dads favorite movie,"It's time to take the red pill".
