Chapter-10 : Hogwarts and Sorting
## In the train ##
There were still 15 minutes until we arrived at hogsmeade station. There was an announcement that they were going to arrive so the students can change into their uniforms.
The announcement woke up Tonks from her 'nap'.
Leaving the compartment for giving her time to change, they arrived at hogsmeade station.
The door of the compartment opened and an ashamed Tonks came out, "I'm sorry it took so much time" she said in an apologising tone.
He got inside and quickly changed into his uniform. keeping the important books in the storage he kept everything else in the suitcase.
leaving it on the table he got down the train.
With a booming voice from Hagrid, the hogwart's groundskeeper, which called the first year students to fallow him toward the boats.
Sharing my boat with three other first years while we crossed the black lake.
The Hogwarts castle looked majestic, the scenery was almost breathtaking, seeing it in the movie or reading about it on a books was nowhere as close as the real deal. In simple words, it looked great.
The amount of magic in the air also shot trough the roof. which was understandable, Hogwarts was connected to 5 ley lines, of which 2 were large sized, this, including the fact that generation upon generations of hundreds of wizards and witches attended Hogwarts every year, practicing magic almost everyday made magic seep into each and every corner of this place making the atmosphere saturated with mana.
This was also a reason why people learned magic faster at Hogwarts than other places because the spell casting here became very easy due to presence of ambient mana in atmosphere. This made Hogwarts one of the most magical places in the whole world.
Hagrid guided us to the entrance where Prof. McGonagall was waiting. She gave the same speech that she gave in the books, about the houses being our families, House points, some introductory information and some important rules which I already knew. [house points, a joke in presence of the batman(Snape)].
She guided us until the gates of the great hall and left us there. Some of the idiotic students started coming up with their theories regarding sorting ceremony. like fighting a troll, duelling a dragon and my personal favorite, a stare competition with a basilisk.
In front of us was now a dirty looking pointed hat, which sat upon a stool on the podium. The sorting hat started singing a ridiculous, long and a painful ear numbing song, whose reason I finally understood today.
The song and the baritone of the hat was a kind of legilimency attack on the minds of students, if you weren't an occlumency master, you won't even know that your occlumency shields were deactivated, and when the hat is placed upon your head, it could easily enter your mind, checking out your memories for sorting you into a house. And when you take the hat off, your occlumency shields would become active.
The sorting hat was one of the most powerful and ancient artefacts of this world which had great potential if used correctly, but the condition in which it was kept shows the negligence and stupidity of the wizard kind.
The song ended and the sorting commenced, Prof. McGonagall started calling out names, only a few of them were noteworthy such as Cedric Driggory and Roger Davies.
After a few minutes, she called out his name
"Blest, Michael"
The whole Hall suddenly become silent. hearing his name Dumbledore and snape raised an eyebrow, watching him sternly. Soon, the whole Hall dissolved into murmurs.
Michael moved forward and reached the stool, took out his wand and casted scourgify on the hat.
"Thanks, I seriously needed that" the hat said
"It's okay, I don't want a dirty hat upon my head" Michael said before he sat on the stool, and kept the hat on his head.
The sorting hat wasn't able to see Michael's secret memories and memories of his past life. Though it was a powerful artefact, it also had it's limitations. Michael only showed the memories he wanted to show, which were enough for him to be sorted into Ravenclaw.
The hat's voice resounded in his mind " Hmmm, Peculiar, loyal but only to family, hardworking but only for self-interest, ambition is great but so is the responsibility, courageous, smart and a deep thirst for knowledge, then the obvious choice is 'RAVENCLAW' "
