Ed exited the auction. He could have taken his money and paid for what he bought, but he decided to wait until all his items were sold. It was only a matter of time, so it was best to wait. Ed went to the same inn where Eri and the children were staying. He booked a room with his disguise and simply showed the innkeeper his auction ID. He then left after telling him he would be hunting for the night.
'If you're leaving the capital, why book a room…' The innkeeper couldn't help but think this way. Ed left the capital and undid his disguise. He wasn't going to hunt as it was too late. He got to the capital and bought some items, as well as some dishes. He visited Eri and the others and played with them for a while. When it was time for sleeping, he left the inn and started strolling around. He checked his Map and only one red point was showing inside a high-class inn. It was obviously Norris.
Ed spent some more time checking out the capital but left when there were about 3 hours left for sunrise. He looked for a secluded place and summoned his monsters. He had nothing to do, so he might as well train. The training lasted for about 4 hours before Ed decided to get back. He used his disguise and got back to his room. The innkeeper was surprised once more since Ed didn't have any blood on his, not even dirt. Ed decided to sleep for a while before going to the auction.
After waking up from his nap, Ed headed to the auction. They were just about to start the third phase.
"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome back! Today we'll start with some pills concocted by the most proficient pill-masters. Each bottle has 20 pills; each pill can heal small injuries and restore some blood in case of severe blood loss. The starting price for a battle is 1000 gold coins!" There were 20 bottles and they were sold very quickly. The next items were 10 bottles which had pills that could increase the speed of cultivation. 'Next time I should make some high-grade pills and sell them.' Ed was already forming ideas for his next visit to the auction.
"Now then, we have the highlight of the medicine phase. These are the highest grade potions you can find! There only 10 of them and they can heal almost all severe injuries in an instant, we even tried them ourselves to test their validity!" The potions that the host was hyping up were Ed's. 'What do you mean tested them out? I only gave you 10!' Ed was surprised by the lies of the host. 'I should be careful not to buy anything they hype up too much'.
"Each potion will have a starting price of 20.000 gold coins. You may think that the price is high, but please trust us, your lives are worth more!" The price was way beyond what Ed had planned for. He would be making more than 200.000 from potions alone.
The potions seemed to be very popular with the guests. Some of them were bought for more than 50.000. Even the man, who bought the monster corpse earlier for 2.5 million, bought 5 potions alone. And he paid the most. In total, Ed just made 400.000 gold coins adding the earlier 115.000, he now had 515.000 gold coins.
'Guess I don't have to worry about any money issues for a while.' Ed was all smiles right now. He would definitely come to the auction again.
Ed's potions were the last items to be sold for the third phase, so now the last phase will begin.
"Now ladies and gentlemen, we begin the last phase with a cultivation technique scroll that was found inside some ruins. The ruins were filled with Heavenly Establishment monsters, and there was even an Immortal Establishment boss monster. This cultivation technique is called the Thunder Formation technique. It is a must-have for cultivators who have an affinity with thunder." The cultivation technique on it didn't matter much at first; however what the host said next shocked most people.
"Moreover, it can be used with existing cultivation techniques. Yes, you heard me right. There would be no reason to restart your cultivation with this technique. The starting price will be 1 million gold coins!" Most people who had been saving their money started bidding. Even those who didn't have that much money started bidding as well. This technique was that precious. Even Norris was bidding for it, especially since he showed some lightning and thunder attacks at the academy tests.
Ed didn't care much for the technique. Thanks to the system; he could level up without cultivating. The bidding kept going on until finally, no one could bid any higher. The scroll was bought by the old man who couldn't buy the monster body earlier for 3 million gold coins.
The items that followed weren't as interesting. It was some spatial rings and some other cultivation techniques, but they weren't as good as the previous one. None of these things impressed Ed so he was thinking of leaving but still decided to finish his visit to the auction.
The last item was finally brought out. "We saved the best for last. This is a dragon's egg that was found inside a cave of a far mountain. As you all know, dragons are considered one of the top monsters in the world. Just by being born they'll have a cultivation of Earth Establishment and when they reach adulthood, they will automatically be at Heavenly Establishment level 10. This is a one of kind chance, so make sure to get the egg. The starting price is 100.000 gold coins." Ed was thinking about bidding for the egg. A dragon would definitely be useful in so many ways. However, he was warned by the system.
[If the mother of the egg isn't dead, it would definitely search for the egg. I recommend you give up on it.] After hearing the system, Ed gave up on the egg. If the dragon that came was going to be as strong as the black one he met before, he would definitely end up dead. An egg was not equal to a life. Most experienced people seemed to know this and didn't bid. In the end, the egg was sold for 500.000 gold coins.
"Everyone thank you very much for joining our auction. We hope to see you next time. Please join us outside to reclaim your items and your money!"
Hello everyone! The auction is ending. Ed didn't buy a lot of things, but he got what he really needed. Enjoy the chapter.
Ed headed outside. It was time for him to reclaim his items and money. He showed the receptionist his ID for confirmation.
"The items you have generated 515.000, while the items you bought totaled 39.000. We give an 8% discount so that comes up to 35.880. This means you made 479.120. In addition with the auction fees it comes to 469.120, we'll round it up to you for 470.000 since we hope you'll remain our faithful customer." The receptionist was quite quick with his math. 'They charged 10.000 as fees; quite cheap.' Ed was satisfied with his earnings and was about to leave.
"May we have a moment with you, Sir?" Ed was approached by the two men who had bought the most expensive items. He guessed what they wanted, so he was prepared.
"Of course." He turned around and faced both of them.
"We know that you are the one who made those high-grade potions. Or at least, you know who made them." One of the men brought up the main cause for stopping Ed, which was just what he guessed. "We want to know if it would be possible to make a contract with you. We hope to acquire a stable amount of those potions."
"I would love to, but unfortunately, it takes a long time to gather the materials and concoct the potions. I would barely be able to make the next batch by the time the auction reopens." Ed lied to the two of them. He wanted to get strong, not to become a contracted worker for the rest of his life.
"It seems that you are unwilling." It seemed like both of them saw through Ed's lies. "Well, we can't force you. We look forward to the items you'll bring out next time." After saying this, both of them left the auction. Ed had some cold sweat going down his back. Both of them released a little killing intent when they noticed his lies. Most people didn't even notice it, but Ed's training with KI and Nen made him extra sensitive to hostility. 'I'll need to be careful with such people'. Both of them were exceptionally strong, which just shows how they could generate so much money.
Ed left the auction and headed to the room he booked in the inn. He notified the keeper that he didn't need the room any longer and left. It was getting close to sunset so he had to hurry back to the academy. He undid his disguise outside of the capital and hurried back to the castle. The guards were already familiar with him, so they didn't bother to check his identity every time.
He headed to his room and started preparing the cockatrice. It was better to do it while it was still fresh. The cockatrice was basically just an oversize yellow chicken with a lizard's tail. Ed drained the blood and started butchering the monster. It didn't take him too long, as he had some experience with some other monsters. Ed finished in half an hour and stored the meat in his Inventory. He was excited as he was thinking of as much dishes he could make as possible.
"Maybe I should treat my friends. What do you think Suika?" Ed was thinking about enjoying the meal with his new friends in this academy. He did enjoy their company after all.
"Suu ~~" Suika, who was accompanying Ed, sounded her agreement. Both of them headed to the training room. It was time for their usual training. Raikou followed after them as well.
"I want you guys to try and use the advanced techniques. After that, do the Ren training once more." Ed summoned his monsters and got them to train. He had to try some of his skills which he neglected. Mainly, his Shunpo.
'Let's try it on its own first.' Ed tried to use it at first and kept slipping and falling. He had never used this technique before, or anything similar to it, so he found it quite difficult to adjust to it. On the sidelines, Suika and some of the monsters kept giggling every time Ed fell down. This caused Ed to go red from the embarrassment.
Even though Ed was training, he didn't forget to rotate between his monsters. He can't summon all of them now, so he needed to create equal chances for everyone. About an hour into the training, Ed finally succeeded in using Shunpo. He was able to cover a great distance just from this first step. After trying it a couple more times, Ed was getting better and better at an incredible speed. Shunpo is a movement skill that used the least amount of steps to get from point A to point B. Ed was getting so good at it, that his monsters couldn't follow his movements anymore. However, it quickly drained him. It was a physical skill, so Ed would handle it better as he gets stronger.
After two hours of training, Ed could use Shunpo to run around the training room. You couldn't see him until he reaches the room's corners where he had to change speed. 'Let's try something a little crazy' Ed stopped and asked everyone to move out of the way. He activated his Ken and focused his aura on his legs with Ryu. He took a stance for running and used Spectral Shadow Steps along with Shunpo. Ed's speed was more than impressive in less than 1 second, he was near the end of the training room. However, he wasn't used to this accumulation of speed techniques, and couldn't stop.
Ed went face first into the wall, and a huge crashing sound reverberated throughout his room. Suika and the rest were worried about him, so they all ran to see how he was doing. Ed only had a nosebleed due to the crash. This was thanks to his clever use of Ken and Ryu, allowing his aura to instantly increase to surround his body, protecting him from fatal injuries.
Ed decided to train this technique somewhere more open instead of this small room. He trained his Ren with his companions for a while before heading out to eat. All of them took a bath as usual and slept. In the morning, Ed was going to ask about the details of the tournament that was taking place this week.
