章節 18: You’ve Seen His Face?

As Delilah walked into the house later that evening, she saw Jessica in the living room bent over her laptop as though she was studying.

"What are you up to?" Delilah asked, and Jessica raised her head.

"Hey, you're back. Welcome. I was just reading up stuff about nannying, you know, getting all the knowledge I need about my job," she explained and Delilah shook her head as she dropped on the couch opposite Jessica.

"Why do you need to study about caring for a little kid? Are they going to tell you how to wipe snot from their nose or wipe their cute little butts?" Delilah asked dryly and Jessica shook her head in amusement.

"The difference between you and every other person that does the same stuff you do is how much knowledge you have on the subject. How diverse your knowledge is. If I'm going to be a nanny, I plan to be the very best there is," Jessica said and Delilah nodded.

"Yeah. Sure. You're Jesse the Bookworm after all. Where is Blake, anyway? Is he in his bedroom?" Delilah asked, not bothering to hide the slight edge of impatience in her voice.

Jessica, lounged on the couch as she looked up and grinned. "Not yet. Missing your husband already?"

Delilah rolled her eyes. "Just wondering if I should take out my favorite wine and start celebrating that he's gone."

Jessica laughed, shaking her head. "I'm sure you don't mean that. You really should be good to him, you know? Soon it will be just you two in this place," Jessica reminded her, and Delilah frowned when it dawned on her that she would be alone in the house with Blake after Jessica leaves.

"Jess, you do not really plan on leaving your sister alone with a strange man, do you?" She asked and Jessica giggled.

"My grown up sister who scams men for a living? Sure, I plan on leaving. I'm sure if he was some wealthy guy whom you could dupe, you wouldn't mind being alone with him," Jessica said and Delilah scowled.

"Really, Jess? We are back to that?" She asked as she rose from her seat.

"Just saying," Jessica said and Delilah shook her head as she headed for her room.

"You're making dinner tonight, by the way," Jessica called after her.

"I'll freshen up and get to it," Delilah called back.

After freshening up, Delilah changed into more comfortable clothes and headed to the kitchen to get dinner ready.

While she was busy in the kitchen, Hunter returned, and when he saw Jessica in the living room, he opened his mouth to greet her but she shushed him and jerked her head to towards the kitchen for him to go surprise Delilah.

Hunter smiled at her, and as he headed for the kitchen, Jessica picked up her laptop and left for the bedroom, wanting to give them both space.

Delilah who was engrossed in chopping the vegetables, didn't notice Hunter as he stood by the doorway watching her.

Delilah hummed a tune under her breath and wiggled her body at intervals, making Hunter smile as he watched her.

This was a different aspect to Delilah that he was seeing once again. He never would have pegged her for the type to get her hand dirty with chores or cook, but here she was, feeling relaxed in her kitchen after a work day, fixing dinner.

When she finally turned and saw him standing there, she raised an eyebrow. "What are you staring at? Hope you're not getting any ideas. I'm not making dinner for you. It's my turn to cook hence I'm cooking," she said, and Hunter leaned against the doorframe, a lazy smile on his face.

"What if I'm getting ideas? What are you going to do about it?" He asked, and just then Delilah remembered that she needed to get his picture.

"Hold on. Don't move," she ordered, and Hunter arched a brow as he watched her pick up her phone.

She quickly opened her camera and took a phot of him, making him frown since he didn't like taking pictures, "What was that for?"

"Since you refused to send me the so-called pictures we took, I figured I should get one of you on my phone. Who knows? I might need it some day," she said with a shrug as she tucked her phone into the pocket of her short gathered all the ingredients together.

"What took you so long, anyway? Did you get a job?" She asked, changing the subject.

"Why? Were you missing me already? Is that why you needed a picture of me? Something to look at while I'm away?" He asked, and she snorted.

"You're one of a kind delusional. Wake up from your dream," she said as she walked on the cooker and set the saucepan on it.

Hunter approached the kitchen island and placed a couple of bills on it. "That's for my bed and meal for the day," he said, a playful glint in his eyes.

Delilah glanced at the money, then at him, a thoughtful expression crossing her face. "What kind of work did you do? You didn't steal it, did you?" She asked and he smirked.

"What if I did?"

Delilah rolled her eyes, "Why do you always answer my questions with ridiculous questions?"

"Because that seems to be the only way I can have a proper conversation with you," he said and Delilah snorted.

"Is this your idea of a proper conversation?" She asked, and he shrugged.

"What's your idea of a proper conversation? Tell me, and let's have it. Conversation over dinner in a deluxe restaurant?" He asked and she sighed.

"Anyway, I've been thinking," she began, her tone shifting to serious. "I have an idea."

Hunter's curiosity was piqued. "What idea?"

Delilah leaned against the counter, crossing her arms. "I think there is a way you can make yourself more useful to me. That way, you won't have to pay me daily for food or bed."

Hunter raised an eyebrow. "And what exactly do you want me to do?"

"Did you mean it when you said you know Hunter Quinn? You've seen his face?" She asked, and Hunter nodded.

"Yeah. Countless times," he said, since it was true and he was always seeing his face in the mirror.

She smiled, a plan forming in her mind. "I think we should team up. Help me get Hunter Quinn, and in return you can stay here for six months. Also, when this is over, I will reward you handsomely- enough to change your life. What do you say to partnering with me?"

章節 19: I Will Help You.

Hunter resisted the urge to chuckle as he listened to her proposal. Although he wanted to jump at and accept it, he didn't want to be too hasty or seem desperate.

"Hmmm." He licked his teeth as Delilah watched him.

"Deal?" She urged, her eyes gleaming with excitement at her brilliant idea as she waited for him to accept her proposal.

She knew it was a good deal for both of them, since she had no doubt that he was a con artist and a gold digger. She could use his help and expertise in this seeing how he had successfully forced his way into her house and planted himself in her life, howbeit temporarily.

"You know what? Why don't I think about it as I freshen up, while I give you space to finish up in here? Let's talk after dinner. Preferably over a nightcap," he suggested and she scowled at him.

"What's there to think about when I'm giving you a once in a lifetime opportunity to make money?" She asked, and Hunter looked her over.

"I'm here as your husband, Lila. I'm not here for your money or to make money. If you really do need my help with this, let's talk after dinner," Hunter said, and walked away before she could say anything else.

Delilah rolled her eyes as she watched him leave. What was the use of his unnecessary pride when he didn't even have any money? She mused as she returned her attention to preparing dinner.

As Hunter freshened up, he chuckled when he thought about her proposal. He had to admit that Delilah was unpredictable. She was such a delightful enigma, and she kept coming up with ideas that made him long to have someone examine her head to see how her brain worked.

Wanting to share the funny idea with someone, he picked up his phone and dialed Damon's line after dressing up.

"I was beginning to think you'd never call. There was no feedback from you about your visit to the Villa," Damon said the moment he received the call.

"That isn't what I called for, but about that, I suppose I will play along with them for the time being until I'm done with my present project," he said and Damon chuckled.

"Project Delilah. I hope you don't become the biblical Samson," Damon joked and Hunter laughed.

"Guess what?" Hunter asked excitedly.

"I can't imagine anything that would make you sound so excited. So, tell me," Damon urged him.

"She proposed that I work with her to get Hunter," Hunter said, and there was pause on Damon's end before he burst into uncontrollable laughter, and Hunter joined in the laughter.

"She did what?" Damon asked as he tried to bring his laughter under control.

"You heard me. She offered to let me live here for free and even pay me at the end," Hunter said with a chuckle.

"Oh, man! That lady is something," Damon said and Hunter grinned.

"She is, isn't she?"

"Why do you sound so proud?" Damon asked, and Hunter chuckled.

"Because I am proud of her, of course. She never fails to impress me," he said and Damon chuckled.

"So, what do you plan to do now? Surrender yourself to her?"

"Fred brought someone over earlier today. The guy who's going to be me," Hunter explained.

"Oh! What is he like? Do you think he can pull it off?" Damon asked curiously.

"Yeah. I think he would do a good job."

"That's nice," Damon said, impressed.

"Yeah. I have to go now. She's fixing dinner. Need to eat and then chat with her. I'm accepting her deal. I'm going to help her get Hunter Quinn," Hunter said, and both he and Damon laughed as he hung up the call.

By the time he got to the dining, the sisters were eating already and he joined them, "So, how was your day, brother-in-law?" Jessica asked pleasantly.

Hunter shrugged, "Hectic. Yours?" He asked as he took a forkful of pasta.

"It was okay," Jessica said, and looked at Hunter when he made a guttural sound.

"Hm," he moaned when he tasted it, "This is delicious," he said, looking at Delilah and Jessica grinned.

"Thanks. I hope you can make delicious meals too. You'll have to make dinner some time too," Delilah said, and Hunter's brows pulled together.

Dinner? He'd have to learn how to make that or get someone to do it. He knew nothing about making meals- he only knew how to enjoy them.

"Sure," he said with confidence he didn't feel, "How was your day?" He asked Delilah as he dug into his food with relish.

"Productive," she said, and Jessica raised a brow.

"You closed another deal?" She asked, and Delilah smiled and gave her a nod.

"Yeah."

"Craig Realty is so lucky to have you. I hope you win another award this year," Jessica said and Delilah beamed a happy smile.

"I hope so too."

After dinner, Jessica rose to clear the dishes, "Leave it. Blake will do it. You made breakfast. I prepared dinner. He should do his quota of the job by handling the dishes," Delilah said, and Jessica rolled her eyes.

Hunter looked at Delilah, his brows pulled together. He had never done dishes in his life, and he wasn't even sure what he was supposed to do.

Seeing the look on his face, Jessica assumed that he was frowning because his feelings were hurt so she smiled at him, "How about we do the dishes together? In-law bonding time," She offered, and Hunter flashed her a smile of gratitude while Delilah rolled her eyes.

As Jessica washed the dishes, Hunter watched her closely, wanting to learn in case he had to do it alone next time, and when he didn't rinse the dishes as she expected him to, she looked at him and raised a brow.

"You don't know how to do dishes, do you?" She asked, and he flashed her an awkward smile.

"It's not exactly my thing," he confessed.

Jessica looked at him for a moment, wondering how someone from a poor background like he claimed wouldn't know how to do dishes.

Not bothering to ask him any questions, she showed him how to rinse the dishes and dry them, and by the time they were done cleaning the kitchen, Hunter had gotten the hang of it.

After they were done and got to the living room, Delilah had a bottle of wine waiting, and two glasses. Seeing this, Jessica retired to the bedroom once again, leaving them alone.

"So? Have you come to a decision?" She asked, the moment he sat down.

Hunter said nothing as he picked up the bottle of wine and poured himself a glass. He twirled the wine in the glass before raising it to his nose to get a whiff.

"For someone broke, you sure do know how to appreciate wine," Delilah said as she watched him sip from the glass and savor the taste.

"Even broke people do have taste. Take you for instance. How could a broke man like me be married to you?" He asked and she scowled.

"Are you in or not?" Delilah asked, taking them back to the subject of their meeting.

"I will help you. But I don't need your money," Hunter said, and Delilah smiled as she rose.

"Good. I will work out the details in my head tonight and tomorrow I will tell you how I need you to help." Delilah said and before she could walk away, Hunter caught her hand, sending an unexpected jolt through her.

Delilah's heart skipped a beat as she snatched her hand from his very quickly, shocked by her body's reaction to his touch.

"What?" She asked, taking a step back without meeting his gaze.

"I haven't told you what I want in exchange yet," he said, and she frowned.

"What do you want?"

"I want you to be my wife in every sense of the word for these six months."
