章節 5: Departure and Meeting Maya
"I'm alright, Brother. We should get going if we want to find shelter before dark." Jade says with a half smile as she looks up at her brother.
"Okay. I'll tell everyone to get ready." Nova says before walking into the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Jade stands and walks to the door. Peering out the peephole she looks around to see several groups of zombies roaming the yard. Seeing this she moves to check out the windows and realizes the door is still the best option.
Realizing this a pair of short katanas appear in her hands and she expertly swings them a few times before smoothly sheathing them on her back.
When she turns around she's surprised to see the group of men standing in the living room and staring at her.
"What?" She asks blinking in confusion.
"Nothing." Nova says after a moment as he walks over to her. He then stretches out a hand, confusing Jade.
"Hm?" She hums with raised eyebrows as she looks up at her brother in confusion.
"Give me the knives." He says flicking her forhead, earning himself a glare from her but she still takes out her daggers and moves to hand them to him but hesitates at the last moment.
She pulls back the two daggers and gently kisses each blade.
"My babies. This doesn't mean I love you any less." She says painfully before unwillingly handing the knives to her brother. "Be nice to them." She says seriously as he takes them from her while looking at her like she's weird.
"Sure." He says slowly before moving to walk away followed by Jades unwilling gaze.
"If you break them I'll really kill you." She threatens as she watches him move to stand by Leonard.
"Got it." Nova says casually, not seeming to realize how serious she is. Not that she would actually kill her own brother but he would most definitely suffer immensely.
"Alright, let's get going. I checked and there are around a hundred zombies in the yard. Their biggest weakness is the head but if you don't think you can kill them in one hit aim for the legs. That way they can't move as easily and you're less likely to get bit." Jade explains as they all move to stand by the door with Jade in the lead followed by Nova, Leonard, Alexander, with the others at the back.
"Got it." Alexander says as he and his group pull out guns. Jade however doesn't notice this as she's not looking at them
"Follow me." Jade says as she kicks open the door and dashes out towards the zombie with surprising speed.
Reaching the nearest group of monsters she turns her nails into claws and easily rips the head off of one zombie before moving to the next with cat-like agility.
Nova and Leonard, having already seen her fight before aren't surprised by this and almost immediately move to help. Alex and his group however are extremely surprised to see this and take a moment to react. By the time they start moving there are much fewer zombies nearby and Jade is covered in black blood. Nova and Leonard are much cleaner but their clothes are still soaked in blood. Nova having used the daggers and Leonard having fought with a kitchen knife.
"Gross." Jade says looking at her clothes that are sticking to her body with visible disgust.
"Agreed." Nova says taking his blood soaked shirt off, exposing his well built body. Jade then turns to look at Alexanders group and her gaze pauses on the guns in their hands.
"Put those toys away. The noise will just attract more zombies." She says rolling her eyes as she moves to take out 5 plain looking swords and unwillingly hands them to the group.
"Ah. We didn't think of that. Thanks." Alex says tucking away his gun and greatfully accepting the weapon handed to him.
"Sure." Jade says before moving to walk towards a new group of zombies as she draws her swords.
As they move she easily slices the zombies heads off only occasionally letting some through for the rest of the group.
...
A while later, with everyone fighting together having all gotten used to battling zombies they get near a small alleyway and Jade stops abruptly to look inside.
"Why did you stop?" Nova asks moving to stand next to her.
"Follow me." Jade says suddenly before darting into the alley. The sky was getting dark and they were a good distance away from the place she originally thought they could stay tonight.
Moving to stand in front of a red door she easily imputs a long string of numbers into the keypad. As a result the door unlocks and she pushes it open revealing a long stairway.
"What is this place?" Leonard asks curiously as everyone folloows her inside. Kai closing the door behind them having been the last to enter.
"Don't ask." She mutters as she reaches for a spot on the wall and pushes it. The lights then turn on and everyone can see the smooth marble stairs and the pure white floor at the end.
Jade moves quickly as everyone follows her down. When they reach the room at the bottom someone presses a gun to Jades head.
"Is this how I raised you Maya?" Jade asks, immediately recognizing the girl holding the weapon.
"Boss?" She asks in surprise. She didn't recognize Jade at first because she was a boy but hearing the familiar tone and seeing the face that was almost exactly like her boss Maya was shocked.
"Get that thing away from me." Jade says looking at the gun disdainfully.
"Yes Boss." Maya says, immediately throwing the weapon across the room.
"Why are you still here? I told Dylan to take everyone to the shelter." Jade asks with a frown. No one would dare disobey an order from her much less Dylan.
"I was injured so I told them to leave without me. I promised to meet up in a few days. As you know I'm pretty confident in my speed so I thought I could catch up but I didn't expect to see those monsters when I tried to step out. There were too many for me to handle alone." Maya admits looking at the floor in shame. Since becoming a Snow Knight she had never felt so powerless.
"As long as you're okay." Jade says gently rubbing the girls head affectionately before leading everyone inside.
"Hello." Nova greets Maya kindly before following his sister to sit on the sofa.
"Ah, um... Does anyone want something to drink?" Maya asks when she notices that everyone is sitting around the coffee table.
"Chocolate Milk." Jade says immediately, earning a few looks from everyone else.
"Water for me." Nova replys.
"Cola." Leonard says with a small smile.
"I'll also take a water." Kai says politely.
"Fruit juice, if you have any." Ian tells her.
"Cola. Thanks." Another guy -Max- from team Imperial says coldly.
"Lemonade." The last memeber of Alex's team -Eli- says.
"Chocolate Milk for me as well." Alex says, much to the surprise of both Nova and Jade.
Everyone else already knew it was his favorite drink so they weren't surprised by this request. Rather Maya was startled when she heard Jade ask for Chocolate Milk. Usually when she asked the boss would just tell her to bring anything. Jade had never asked for something specific food and drink wise.
Still she hurries to get the drinks from the kitchen.
