"There are bedrooms down the hall over there. Pick any room you like other than the last one on the left and the third on the right. We leave at 6:00 tomorrow morning." Jade says pointing to a nearby hallway.
"Alright." Alex nods in agreement. No one moves as Maya passes out the drinks. Holding the cup of chocolate milk Jade happily takes a sip. Even water was hard to find late into the apocalypse let alone milk. Even if you could find it, it was likely already spoiled or from mutated cows so it didn't taste good.
"I think it's about time we introduced ourselves. My name is Jade Winters. I'm a registered Peak Martial Saint. I enjoy hand to hand combat but I'm proficient in the weapon arts as well. I have a preference for blades but I can use pretty much anything. As of this morning I became a shapeshifter and gained the ability to store things on a space." Jade says, introducing herself thoroughly. She had already been using the space ability throughout the journey so no one was surprised by this.
"Alexander Wolfe. Registered Peak Martial Grandmaster. Almost at the level of an Elder Grandmaster. I have a fondness for guns but I'm pretty good in hand to hand and cold weapons. If I had to choose one kind of weapon other than guns I'd say swords are my best." Alex introduces kindly with a small polite nod.
"Names Ian. Ian Kingsley. I'm too weak to be called a martial artist. I'm not great in a fight at close range but I know a lot about bombs." Ian says timidly.
"I'm Eli Olsen. Currently a registered Middle Martial Master. Hand to hand combat isn't exactly my strong suit but I can take on most people. I'm a professional archer and a sharpshooter. Guns and bows are my most familiar weapons. As of this morning I have slight control of the air. At first I thought I was hallucinating but seeing as Jade is a shapeshifter it doesn't seem as absurd." Eli says awkwardly. He doesn't seem to be a frequent speaker.
"Kai Larson! I'm a Peak Martial Grandmaster! I'm a professional boxer and I can't really use weapons. I profer to fight with my fists!" Kai introduces a little too enthusiasticly.
"Max Peirce. Lower Martial Grandmaster. Former assassin. Vice captain of team Imperial." Max says quietly.
"Nova Winters. Jade's older brother. I'm not nearly as good as Jade but I know how to use daggers and a sword. I'm Leo's best friend." Nova introduces himself while gently rubbing Jade's head lovingly.
"Leonard Wolfe. I can kind of fight with a knife thanks to Jade teaching me. I'm Alex's brother and Nova's only friend." Leonard says casually. Even smiling when Nova glares at him. He doesn't seem to be anxious anymore.
"Now that that's out of the way. It's about time we all went to bed." Jade says standing up.
"Alright. See you in the morning." Nova says, reaching over to kiss Jade on the head before walking to one of the rooms.
Jade nods politely to everyone else in the room before walking in the opposite direction, towards the bar.
Alex, curious what she's up to follows her over. Jade doesn't acknowledge him even though she knows he's following. She just casually walks behind the counter and pulls out a bottle of wine. From there she walks out and moves to sit on the floor with her back against the wall lazily.
She easily pops open the bottle and takes a sip right from the bottle. She had developed a habit of drinking at night during her last life but since she came back she hadn't been able to. Now given the chance she was going to do what she wanted.
Hearing the faint sounds from the zombies through the wall, her body relaxes. I know it's strange but she had trouble sleeping without the sound of flesh being torn apart and devoured by the monsters. It was comforting for her. A few days of silence wasn't going to change anything. She was already traumatized from the years she spent fighting for her life.
Alex moves to join her, curious about her actions. Seeing her leaning against the wall with her eyes close and a bottle in her hand that she would occasionally sip, intrigued him. Seeing this seemingly teenage boy drink so naturally was a surprise of its own but realizing what she was listening to worried him a little.
Jade was naturally unaware of his thoughts so they just sit together in silence.
In her last life her tolerance was fairly high after years of drinking but she had forgotten that her body now was still a kid who had never had alcohol.
After drinking only a fourth of the bottle her face was flushed and her movements were becoming sluggish.
Alex noticed this and a thought crossed his mind.
'He's cute.'
Realizing what he was thinking Alex was startled. Although he had never dated before he was fairly certain he was straight.
Although he hadn't been interested in a woman before he had never once considered being with a guy.
Realizing what he was thinking about made Alex even more confused. He had only thought Jade was cute. That doesn't have to mean he's attracted to the boy.
He didn't understand how he had started seeing Jade as a potential partner.
"Sleepy." Jade mumbles as she inches closer to Alex and grabs his arm. She tiredly rubs her face against his shoulder with closed eyes.
Alex sucks in a breath feeling the warm touch on his arm. His heart was pounding and he didn't know why.
Ignoring his own reaction to Jades touch, Alex carefully stands up and lifts her into his arms. He couldn't help but think that Jade was really small for a boy at that age.
Even having shapeshifted into a boy Jade was still a young girl.
Her ability wasn't nearly as strong as it was before her death and she wasn't able to maintain big changes for long. Flattening her chest and making her hair shorter was already a lot. Not to mention changing the rest of her body. She didn't look very masculine but she thought it was enough as teenagers aren't yet fully developed anyway and a lot of young boys look more feminine.
If someone looked closely they would realize she was a girl but no one would think she wasn't a boy unless she said otherwise so she felt no reason to worry.
She looked pretty similar to how Nova did when he was younger. Her features were just a little more delicate than his.
Holding the small boy in his arms Alex felt his heart beat even faster and his eyes couldn't help but be drown to her as he made his way towards the hallway. On his way he met Maya who was going to her own room.
She was surprised to see her boss so vulnerable but she didn't comment as it wasn't her place to do so.
"Where is his room?" Alex whispers softly in fear of waking the young boy in his arms.
"Last room on the left. The door looks different than the rest. You should be able to find it easily." Maya whispers back as she points to the end of the hallway.
"Thank you." Alex mutters, turning to walk away when Maya stops him.
"The door is probably locked. Boss is the only one with the key. He carries it on a necklace around his neck." Maya says pointing to the chain that's peeking out from under Jades shirt. A slight bump in the fabric of her shirt on her chest confirms the presence of a key hidden beneath it.
"Got it." Alex says, his voice steady despite the thoughts clouding his mind.
Slowly he makes his way towards Jades room. Once outside the door he calms his breathing and with gentle movements he slowly takes hold of the chain and begins pulling it inch by inch. When the key is finally in his hand Alex heaves a sigh of relief and reaches to unlock the door.
Pushing it open his eyes sweep across the room, taking in every detail.
