章節 8: The Toddler

Finrod soon got up, his body felt a lot better and he almost thanked the goddess for it like he always routinely did.

"Thank the goddess…" he said and then stood, staying silent for a few seconds, realizing that he didn't need to say that anymore, that there was no point to it and that her death be accepted, it was time to move forward. He sighed and continued his journey forward, away from the lands of his people.

He ran for meters, and after a number of steps. He heard the running of water and he recognized the trees particularly in front of him.

"The river." He uttered like a child and went through the bushes that hid it.

Usually, the tweeting of birds was non-stop in the area, hearing their songs as they filled their pots of water was a routine for most young elves. However, that liveliness was no more, he was by himself– no young elves by him–no tweeting of birds.

He grinned his teeth in annoyance and walked forward to the river. The river still poured like it always did, unaffected by the energy that swept the planet and also unaffected by the mist.

He placed down his bottle for a scoop and he drank it after filling to its half, he took hurried gulps like a thirsty child not because he was thirsty but rather out of frustration.

He took another sip and then after, he filled the bottle.

He stood up and looked around, the terrain was quite hidden. Trees and bushes were about and he felt this was an area to practice archery, there were trees as targets, and it was stupid to pass away the opportunity.

He turned to his left side spotting a large thick tree, he nocked an arrow on his bow and released the arrow with a twang.

"It struck." He said seeing that the arrow had hit the part of the tree he had intended.

He nocked another arrow and released it with a loud twang from the arrow's swing and it struck the target and was just two centimeters away from the first arrow.

He smiled, "Maybe I have a talent for this."

His thought process wasn't off as his parents were talented archers who occasionally hunted wild beasts for the village. However, he couldn't go on most hunts with them as he was stuck with worshipping the goddess.

He released another and it hit, his smile broadened and then he released one more, this one however missed.

It flew by the right side of the tree disappearing from Finrod's view.

His smile disappeared and he decided he was done, he had done well so far. He only needed to practice more to heighten his accuracy and he had a feeling that it wasn't going to be too hard.

He pulled the arrows from the tree's stem, they had bore deep and they took quite the force to get out.

He placed them in the quiver just by the large fruit he still kept.

Now, it was time to search for the last arrow. Blacksmiths were certainly going to be a rarity under the planet's new circumstances so he needed to keep every arrow he could.

He brushed away a thick bush riddled with berries.

[Rena redberries]

His Identified skill notified as he focused on the bush. He thought of taking some after he had found his arrow, but then he saw that they were plentiful which meant the animals around didn't eat them and that usually was because they're poisonous or they don't taste good.

He still hadn't found the arrow after taking many steps. He continued in his search forward and there behind a bush, he heard the nudging of teeth against metal.

He slowly crept forward, that was an action done by some creature.

He got to the bush's edge and stretched to peep.

On the other side of the bush sat a little demon, one bearing a countenance similar to that of a curious child, biting on the metal part of the arrow. It hadn't noticed Finrod and it continued in its doing.

'It's so small.'

It truly was, it was just the size of a two-year-old human child, although a lot uglier and scary-looking.

It was all red, it had blue lines like blood vessels riddling the lower part of its abdomen and on its large head two little horns sticking out.

Its head was the biggest part of its body and if Finrod wasn't wary, he would have thought of how it managed to hold on so much weight on its neck.

It was naked just like the other demons.

[Young lesser demon- lvl 3]

His identify skill notified.

'This is as far as you go little one.'

Finrod took an arrow and placed it against the bow's string targeting the oblivious creature.

He released the arrow without hesitation and it flew striking the right arm of the creature and shoving it back, Finrod had aimed for its head.

The demon rolled on its large head disoriented and in pain.

It got on its little feet when an arrow pierced its throat and another went through its head granting it solace.

[Young Lesser demon- lvl 3 defeated, you have gained appropriate experience points]

Finrod ran his hand through his head in relief and walked forward.

The demon's red eyes were wide open and blood streamed from the corners of its eyes and mouth.

Finrod saw that it had no wings which either meant three things; it was flown and dropped by a larger, stronger demon or it was stronger and probably faster than he had expected or there was a rift nearby. The last one explained why there was more mist in the area.

He removed the arrows from its body, and a stream of blood jetted from the spots with a slosh.

A repugnant smell hit Finrod, he gagged a little. He didn't notice earlier since he was confused and many things were happening in so little time, but the body of the demon stank, it stank badly that he held out his arrows and debated throwing them away.

He settled for washing them by the river however and back he went to do so.
