Orion's jump alone caused the wizards' and witches' attention during the second round of the tournament to gasp in disbelief. Even those who weren't particularly watching him jump earlier reacted the same way after seeing the place from where Orion jumped off.
The deck was broken by the extreme pressure Orion put there. To exert so much pressure on the wooden floor that it breaks upon someone jumping, those who had some idea about the physical capabilities of humans in the wizarding world couldn't help but gulp.
The second round of the tournament was to enter the lake and follow the long trails of the sirens to find where they were keeping their loved ones.
But again, this had to be done in the water. The distances all the champions had to cover underwater to find the kidnapped people were absolutely impossible for anyone to do without specialized equipment from the Muggle world or powerful magic of some sort that allowed them to breathe underwater and swim fast.
Well, not for Orion D. Ambrosius.
Orion didn't bother coming up with a special way to breathe underwater, nor did he bother finding a way to move faster in the water.
There were mainly two reasons: one being that he could ideally hold his breath for up to 20 minutes. Not a record-breaking time, but he didn't need to stop doing any of his other activities as long as they weren't too strenuous.
So according to him, under full load on his body to swim—which, by the way, easily beats any world record—he could most likely hold his breath for 10 to 15 minutes.
That is enough with his speed.
The moment he touched the water, it was almost like he turned into a torpedo. He was faster than those who were using specialized magic to either increase their speed or outright transform into sea-based life forms.
Rose was one of them; she was using a specialized magical potion to do just that. And so was the case with Karum.
What Morgan was doing was unknown, but she didn't seem to have turned into some kind of fish.
Orion only looked for a second when he was underwater before easily leaving all of them behind and rushing to save Daphne.
.
.
.
With his speed and senses, he was quickly able to find where Daphne was. It was also good to see that some magical creatures understood the power hierarchy upon seeing a powerful being, unlike wizards and witches.
Those sirens or fishmen, whatever they were called, didn't even pretend to be unafraid. Upon his arrival, they just outright abandoned their posts and ran away.
"Hmm, wasn't expecting this, honestly," Orion hummed to himself, feeling like the big bad villain. He snorted and went up to Daphne, who was tied up.
Apparently, she was asleep when those people took her. The ring Orion gave her would have acted immediately if she was in danger or felt threatened.
But since those people didn't intend to harm her and due to her sleep, she didn't feel threatened, and the ring didn't work.
This was a loophole he had to fix just in case someone ended up using it. Making a note to address this and assigning it as one of his priorities, he quickly used his magic to remove the chains holding her.
He was quickly running out of oxygen by now. His expectation that he would be able to hold his breath for as long as 10 to 15 minutes, along with becoming a human torpedo, was right but not exactly.
He started feeling the lack of oxygen even before 10 minutes, let alone 15 as he was expecting. But that kind of made sense; the human body needs more oxygen when pushing itself to the limit.
So after he took Daphne into his arms, he was going to just swim to the surface and then either fly or swim back to the shore.
But then he suddenly felt something. Orion was very sensitive to magic, and even his other senses were highly developed.
He quickly sensed a change in the water. This shift was mostly silent, but Orion's sixth sense told him it was something big.
Or more exactly, what caused this slight shift in the water was something big. He immediately snapped his attention to where he found the source of the disturbance: it was the giant squid that lived in the lake near Hogwarts.
Now, usually, this squid didn't do anything to the students most of the time, but…
Orion felt that there was something strange here. At least to Orion, it didn't feel like the squid was planning on minding its own business.
And he was right. The giant squid's body, which was still hidden due to the lack of light underwater, rushed at Orion.
Even with his impressive night vision, Orion wasn't able to fully capture the entire body of the giant squid. He had to depend on his sense of presence to understand what was going on around him.
Orion could just teleport from here with Daphne, but the other students being held would be in danger.
Sigh…
Soon, the giant tentacle of the squid came rushing at him. Seeing this, he just scoffed.
"JUST FUCK OFF." Orion's eyes shone at that last minute, and then he extended his hand towards the squid.
