Snapping his fingers isn't necessary to perform wandless magic. Waving his index finger like a wand or just intent was enough, but Aurelius loved doing it. It added a coolness factor rather than just things happening in his line of sight.
After shooing the very excited Hermione away with the excuse that they had to put on their uniforms, they got off the train and met up with all the first years in front of a gigantic groundskeeper named Hagrid.
"All the first years, this way!" the half-giant yelled. "Great to see you again, Harry. All of you, follow me, and don't get separated."
They followed the groundskeeper into the darkness, only seeing the lantern in the distance, causing many newcomers to trip over protruding roots. Aurelius is in the lead with the golden trio, able to see where he steps.
"Get into the boats, but no more than four to a boat!"
After passing the lake and admiring the majesty of the castle as they approached, they were led by Hagrid until Professor McGonagall took over.
"Is it true that we will have to fight a troll?" asked the nervous Weasley.
"My sister told me it's going to be some sort of contest!" said another student.
"Ridiculous! Obviously, it's going to be some sort of test. I wouldn't be surprised if it's some sort of puzzle." Said the first year know it all.
Aurelius doesn't intervene in Malfoy's and Potter's fated meeting because he doesn't want to interfere unnecessarily.
'At least Neville was spared the embarrassment of finding his toad in front of the stern look of Professor McGonagall.' Aurelius thought.
They all entered the great hall under the gaze of the upper years and staff.
"There is a ceiling. It's enchanted to look like the outside," Hermione whispered to the boys beside her. "I read about it in the Hogwarts history."
"Hey, are you okay?" Harry asked when he noticed that Aurelius was looking everywhere.
"Hey? Oh sure. Just excited for what will happen next," he replied.
'There is so much concentrated magic in the building! On a scale from 1-10, the magic is only 0.5 outside magically concentrated areas, and immediately outside the castle, the magic concentration would be a 1, but the building is a 5.
He also wondered if the candles would shower the great hall with candle wax. Also, why burn things using lit candles? Spells like lumos function perfectly without the dangers of burning candles and are more effective.
"Wait here, please. Before starting the ceremony, the headmaster will say a few words." said the green-robed witch.
The elderly man with a long beard and gold half-moon glasses rose and glanced at the new arrivals before beginning.
"I'd like to remind everyone of a few things. Everyone must remember that students are not allowed to enter the Forbidden Forest under any circumstances. Our keeper of the keys, Mr. Filch, asked me to remind you that a list of knick-knacks and trinkets will be confiscated if found by him. Also, the corridor on the third floor, on the right side, is off-limits to all those who do not wish for a most painful death.
Aurelius couldn't help but mentally slow clap. 'They have just arrived, and Dumbledore already states that Hogwarts is incredibly dangerous. How are students not running for the hills?' the boy thought.
Soon after his speech, Professor McGonagall said, "When I say your name, please come and sit on this stool and place the sorting hat on your head, and then your house will be announced." She looked at the scroll in her hand for a moment and called the first name "Hannah Abbott."
"Hufflepuff!" exclaimed the sorting hat as it called each house name.
"Terry Boot"
"Ravenclaw!"
"Susan Bones"
"Hufflepuff!
'It's odd that no one paid attention to her initially, despite her aunt being the head of the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, Amelia Bones. Maybe it was because she was a half-blood, but she is an excellent political connection. Wait, doesn't her aunt die later?'
….
"Hermione Granger!"
"Gryffindor!"
'I think everyone who knew Hermione would say she's a Ravenclaw, at least at this stage, but as time progressed, she became a reckless menace. She didn't have to obliviate her parents. It always made me wonder if Ronald had used a love potion or a confundus spell; after all, it induces obsession or compliance with the other, so I can't imagine any other situation in which she would cut off her family for the wizarding world and Ron.'
"Draco Malfoy"
"Slytherin!"
'To be honest, he reminds me of Pettigrew. Impulsive, jealous, and fearful, but I guess politics matter. Otherwise, I'm sure the annoying princess would be tossed into Gryffindor.'
Skipping over all the others…..
"Harry Potter"
Everyone in the large dining room fell silent and stared, including the headmaster.
"Gryffindor!"
'I wonder if his sorting is Dumbledore interfering directly confunding the hat or indirectly through Weasley. After being exposed to a git like Malfoy, there's no way he'd want to be in Slytherin if he had a choice. And not suited for any other house besides Hufflepuff and Gryffindor.'
"We have Potter! We have Potter!" chanted some Gryffindors.
"Ronald Weasley"
"Gryffindor!"
'I feel like that was an accurate choice. He isn't intelligent by any means, and he isn't loyal. Hell, he threw away Harry multiple times out of fear or jealousy. His only somewhat admirable quality is his willingness to put himself in danger, but that's more out of ignorance and stupidity, in my opinion.'
The selection continued. The last turn was for Aurelius, which left Professor McGonagall perplexed because it was alphabetically near the top, but she had assumed that due to the many last names, it was put at the bottom.
"Aurelius Galegold Evans Valriss Aulus"
"Huh, what's up with the long name? That's typically only nobles, so who is this kid?" asked one of the Ravenclaws.
"I agree, especially with the much older style of names." Said a fellow claw.
"Let's see, where should I put you?" The sorting hat looked into his mind and was perplexed by the familiar sensation he hadn't felt since the school's founders. 'Once again, what was your name? I'm not sure if I heard the headmistress correctly.'
'My name is Aurelius Galegold Evans Valriss Aulus, heir to House Galegold.'
'You are a Galegold!' He hadn't seen one since Cyrah. After almost a half a millennium, he was astonished that their line still existed. "Should I make it official, heir Galegold?" the hat said excitedly.
"Go ahead," Aurelius replied with a smile.
"Galegold!" exclaimed the hat in the loudest voice of the entire meeting, with an almost ecstatic tone, to the complete bewilderment of those present. Even Dumbledore didn't know why the castle suddenly seemed to respond to the sorting hat's declaration and began to shake. Waves of powerful ancient magic ran through the castle. The amount of raw magic jumped to an 8 on his magic scale.
People looked in the direction that was changing after the hall seemed to extend. Where there were once four tables, a new long table sat between the Hufflepuff and Gryffindor tables. Above it, a fifth flag, a golden and royal purple colored flag embroiled with the image of a niffler and an occamy chasing each other's tail like a yin yang symbol with the title Galegold at the bottom, hanging proudly above the table.
