"It's because of Mary, isn't it?" Irene said, looking at me intently.
I was surprised by her comment. How could she know about Mary? I hadn't mentioned anything about her.
"How did you know?" I asked, my voice barely above a whisper.
Irene exchanged a knowing look with Lily before turning back to me. "We've noticed that you've been acting differently lately," she explained. "And we know that Mary has been a source of trouble for you in the past."
I nodded, feeling a lump form in my throat. It was strange that they knew, but I was grateful for their understanding.
"We just want you to know that we're here for you, Jade," Lily said, reaching out to take my hand.
"Whatever you're going through, you don't have to face it alone. We'll make sure nothing happens to you or Raven," Irene added, patting my head.
Their words brought me some comfort, and I felt a wave of gratitude wash over me. I was lucky to have such caring and supportive moms.
