Title: Worthy Challenger?

While the others made plans on entering the jungle which Ace was thrown in. The victim of the attack gets up with a groan.
"Damn that hurt!" Complained Ace out loudly.
….
-Ace POV-
Well, that attack would have hurt me if I didn't have Armament Haki. While the animal… if it could even called that anymore, was fast. Though it wasn't fast enough, as I still had time to think if I should take the hit or not.
I could have dodged together with Gin, but now that I did this, his loyalty towards me will skyrocket. I gained a lot by losing nothing, from what I saw, the animal was a really giant crocodile with a lion's mane around its neck and its four legs were like those of lions also.
The Grand Line truly has some weird creatures in it. Still, this one seems even stranger. I have fought big animals, but this one was still crazily strong. If I didn't use my Armament Haki to defend myself I would have been heavily injured. That was just how dangerous the creature was, though if it decided to get Sabo, nothing would have happened as he is a Logia and the attack would have just passed through his body and the creature would have burned itself.
A Logia is invincible even against those with crazy saw power, when they don't have Haki then it doesn't matter. They can't beat a Logia, especially if they are an animal who can't figure Haki out.
*fwish*
Suddenly, before my Observation Haki could even pick it up, I felt a huge hit to my back.
BOOOM!!!
I crashed face-first into many trees and was hurt horribly, even as I used <Tekkai>.
Damn, I guess the beast must be able to use its ability to hide. I almost couldn't use <Tekkai> because as a predator, the animal can hide its intentions before an attack. But still, even humans show some intent to attack before they do. Every attack has that 'will' which allows it to be sensed.
I closed my eyes and concentrated on my Observation.
*fwish* In an instant, the creature disappeared, normal human eyes wouldn't be able to follow it. Even with its giant size it could move so fast.
Again, from the back, I dodged the giant creature and I could hear a large part of the jungle get crushed under the beast's paws.
Damn, it's pounce-like attack is quite fast and powerful as hell. But it had some obvious weaknesses too.
1st, after the pounce it can't change directions as it is mid-air.
*fwish*
The beast attacked again, and I do a huge leap to the side as the beast has a huge body. I pulled out my sword and slashed towards the beast.
But suddenly, I felt something hit me to the side that makes me spit out blood.
*BOOOM!!*
I crashed in a tree headfirst again, this time I didn't even get to use Tekkai nor Haki. The attack was all out, without any mercy and I understood that.
I observed and saw that it was a tail attack, it wasn't the thick crocodile tail, it was a thin lion tail. That was a very fast attack that I couldn't dodge.
So it could turn its tail into a lion tail? Then this made it pretty clear what this beast was… it's a Devil Fruit user.
It wasn't that dumb either, it was able to figure out how to break through my defense with a super-fast attack that I wouldn't be able to dodge. Still, even with the slight internal damage, I am generally okay now.
*Grrrr* The beast growled and attacked once more but this time I used <Geppo> and <Soru> midair and in the end, I slam my fist Haki imbued fist into the top of its head.
BAAM!!!
My Haki hit it with a shockwave, but at the same time... I stumble as a giant tail hits me on the head. The power behind it being enormous, I almost pass out.
What the hell?! How can an animal be so strong?! Though it wouldn't be too troublesome to run away from it, I am not about to do that. No, its also using the territory around us to its advantage.
I could keep dodging and make this a battle of endurance, but even then I am not quite sure I would win. After all, Zoans get a boost in that too, and it's a giant animal, it's bound to have more stamina than me.
Honestly… I wanna just fight it in raw power and win. This is to prove to myself that these years of training weren't for nothing, and even though the animal doesn't have Haki, I can see that it is crazily strong.
Fwish!
Its tail once more moves to hit me, but now that I am aware of it I can dodge it.
BAAAM!!!
But as I dodge it, I once more feel something hit me hard on my head.
*cough* I cough out blood again as my brain rockets inside my skull and I am a little dizzy even though I used Haki. Its raw power is truly crazy!
I look towards the creature and see that it is looking straight at me. I narrow my eyes at that as I see a metal beam clutched into its crocodile hand. Though the beam is broken in half as it smashed it against my head.
Damn, well, talk about a surprise, if I was a Logia this wouldn't be a trouble because I wouldn't be able to be hurt and Logias have generally high attack power like Sabo could burn this creature and even the user of the Swamp-Swamp Fruit could create mud and choke it to death.
But I don't have those resources to myself. I must make do with what I have.
So I imbue my sword with Haki and attack the creature again. I can sense its tail coming towards me, but this time I am prepared.
Fwish!
Its tail flies in the air as I cut it off, now that I have understood its rhythm and attack patterns, I can easily defeat the creature with my sword. Even though it seems like the creature seems to have crocodile scales under its fur.
I use <Soru> and blitz at the creature and cut off one of its legs. Once I do that, it starts falling forward and I jump up and the giant crocodile head with a lion's mane around its neck falls on the ground.
I immediately dismissed the creature once that happened as I felt its 'voice' cease to exist. Instead, I look around for where its devil fruit was reincarnated.

-General POV-
While at the same time, Gin and Sabo were running through the jungle and beating any animal that got close to them.
Sabo frowns slightly but then smiles as he can sense Ace enter his Observation Haki range.

When he arrives at the clearing, he sees the giant creature dead. It seemed like a giant crocodile.
Sabo looks at Gin and smirks. "Told ya this wouldn't be difficult for him."
"Of course." Says Gin, a smirk adorning his face too.
…
Also at this time, a little further from the battlefield Ace has an orange fruit in his hand with strange marks on it.
'Well, now this is what I am talking about. Seems like I am getting a Zoan crew member soon.' Ace contemplated as a strange smirk made its way into his face.
….
A/N: Ace was clearly outdone in the raw power department. But he knows best that raw power is not everything and he easily defeated the creature once he understood all of its attack patterns. The Zoan was awakened as a DF user, plus an animal makes it powerful. Technically he could have beaten it in the 1st attack, but he wants to train himself during the journey too.
P.S: Sabo still would have had an easier time against the creature due to him being a Logia.
