One month later.
The IE station constantly rotated around the earth in the same way that the earth rotated around the sun. Only, it was the two concentric rings around the Earth which moved in sync with its revolution.
Such a speed of movement allowed one to slingshot toward any direction using that momentum.
On this day, that was exactly what happened.
A capsule, about 15 feet in length and 5 feet in width, shot off a porthole in the station, speeding away from the sun.
Constant thrusts from the vents in the sides of the capsule allowed it to stay on course and escape the gravity of the Earth.
Inside it lay Lance, sleeping in a cryogenic state. This was to minimize all energy vibrations from him. No chances could be taken, even if he was just an initiate and his vibrations were very weak.
The past month had gone by in a blur. Due to what happened, Lance could not even meet his teammates' gazes. He simply said he had been assigned a solo mission and said he would talk to them later. Exiting, he walked toward the special training chambers.
These special chambers had a much higher concentration of energy than that in their rooms. It allowed one to absorb more energy in the same amount of time, if they were able to. Typically, there was a limit to how much energy an initiate could absorb but this was the case with Lance. Due to having the ability to store energy using the Scholar's wondrous technique, he was like a bottomless black hole that would devour everything and anything.
He ate, bathed and slept in those chambers, not going to the dorm once. A month later, he was teleported to the Castellan who gave his final mission details.
He would be cryogenically frozen and blasted off into space. The interception point was midway between Mars and Jupiter, and he would be woken up minutes before impact with the ship.
The goal was to avoid the sensors and infiltrate the ship without alerting anyone. For this purpose, the capsule he was going in was specially outfitted with advanced cloaking techniques and silent boosting capabilities.
The capsule would attach itself to the bottom of the ship and Lance would sneak inside, disabling the crew and obtaining information about the cargo.
He was outfitted with the latest generation Stealth Exosuit, which enabled him to be invisible and silent even when moving. The suit was specially designed for this mission, equipped with high voltage terminals on his hands that could knock out any species.
The sun looked magnificent in the void, blazing with all of its glory. If Lance had been awake, he would definitely have burned this sight into his memory.
Meteors and debris was circumvented as the capsule traveled silently through space.
As it was a short distance flight, the capsule was not fitted with hyper space travel which was typically used to travel large distances. This technology was one of those which was obtained and modified by humans to suit their needs.
Lance was in a land of dreams, unaware of the time that passed.
3 months later.
Finally, it was time for the interception.
A jolt ran through Lance's body as it thawed, waking him up. Although he felt dizzy and disoriented initially, he shook off the symptoms to see the screen in front of him.
"30 minutes to infiltration", read the display.
