章節 72: Team Spar(2)
Each team member checked their equipment before waiting for the spar to commence.
Shields were in the form of amulets which could be worn around the neck. They protected the wearer from any attack until a threshold was reached, breaking the protecting forcefield and shattering the amulet. The main reason Entsy chose a shield was that he did not want to get taken out by just a single attack. Although he was most suited for the hit and run tactic, as he was the main offense, he needed to be able to recover even if he was hit.
Each team member had the determination to never give up no matter what happened. This could clearly be seen in their eyes which shined with the boundless fighting spirit which was flowing through them.
They were in a small waiting room which would lead into the selected arena. A screen appeared in front of them as the time ticked down. On the screen, 4 images could be seen each representing each arena.
A light flickered among all of them before settling on the one arena that they were wishing wouldn't be chosen: the dueling arena.
In the other landscapes, at least one of them would have had a definitive advantage even if they didn't know the other team's powers. Either Darius would have been strengthened in the desert landscape, or Entsy would have flourished in the other two due to his speed and stealth capabilities. Even the twins would have found it easier to ambush and hypnotize an opposing team member, providing they split up.
Now, the only option was a frontal assault.
The door opened, leading into a huge arena. It was modeled after the one in ancient tome, with room for thousands of spectators.
Darius knew all of the top 100 initiates by name. He just didn't know which ones Apollo had chosen for his team. He squinted, trying to identify who they were so that he could advise his team on how to proceed.
At a distance of 50 feet from them were a team of 5 in identical silver clothes.
With the sound of the crunching of earth beneath each team members boots, the teams cautiously proceeded to the 20 feet mark. A gong would sound when both teams reached the mark, signaling the start of the spar.
The opposing team of 5, on reaching the mark, started to assemble a peculiar formation. 2 men who seemed to be brothers with a medium build were in the front behind whom stood 2 Caucasian girls with innocent expressions on their faces. In between the girls stood Apollo, smirking and eyeing Team Lance as if he were eyeing his prey.
Darius's eyes widened as he recognized each team member. There was no way that such a team formation could be used in an initiate spar!
This formation was popularly known as the "Panzer". 2 people in front would defend 3 people behind them who would be in charge of attacking. Although the formation needed to be fixed at a location and all directions couldn't be covered unless the members had appropriate talents, this formation was perfect in scenarios like these where the enemies were in a wide open space.
The front two were nicknamed the barrier brothers. Of European descent, their intrinsic nature allowed them to project an impenetrable barrier to a certain distance outside to protect them. There were rumors that they had been rescued from an illegal group which bought or abducted children and subjected them to certain situations in order to develop a certain intrinsic nature in them.
Both of them were Mid Stage-1 Initiates who had strong control over their powers. Combined, their barrier could protect their team easily from even 10 standard initiate's attacks.
Although the girls behind them were only Beginning Stage-1 Initiates, they were some of the most sought after members to form teams with. This was because both of their intrinsic natures was "Amplification". Although it was a pretty common IN, what was special about these two was that they could sync their powers to double the amplification they could give to a person.
With their boost, a Stage-1 Initiate could easily display the power of a Stage-2.
Between them was Apollo. Hailed as the genius of the century, his IN was the incredibly rare "Lightning". His past was obscure, with no one knowing clearly where he was from or how he had come to possess this IN.
Although his potential was boundless, at this stage he could 'only' emit lightning from his body to a very limited radius. This still gave him devastating speed and destructive power which was said to be unparalleled in the same level.
Especially with the amplification from the girls, there was no saying how powerful he was right now.
As soon as Darius finished explaining each opposing members powers, the gong sounded signaling the start of the match.
With the roaring of the spectators who had flocked to the arena, the two teams prepared to duke it out. "Panzer" against Team Lance, the spar began.
