Lyra stepped into her dormitory room, her luggage in tow. The room was spacious and well-appointed, with two four-poster beds, elegant dressers, and a large window that overlooked the academy grounds. She began to unpack her belongings, carefully hanging her clothes in the wardrobe and arranging her books on the shelf.
As she was settling in, the door opened, and a girl with long, chestnut hair and warm, brown eyes entered the room. The girl smiled brightly at Lyra and extended her hand. "Hi there! I'm Clara Ravenscroft, your new roommate."
Lyra shook her hand, returning the smile. "It's nice to meet you, Clara. I'm Lyra Ravenscar."
Clara began unpacking her own luggage, chatting amiably as she worked. "So, Lyra, what brings you to Ashborne Academy? Are you from a Sanguine Essence family as well?"
Lyra hesitated, not wanting to reveal too much about her background. "Actually, no. My family is not Sanguine Essence users. I'm here because of my parents' legacy."
Clara nodded, her expression understanding. "That's quite alright. To be honest, I'm not a Sanguine Essence user either. My father is a trading merchant who specializes in selling medicines. Many of his colleagues send their children to this school for the exceptional education."
Lyra felt a wave of relief wash over her, grateful to have a roommate who could relate to her experience. As they continued to unpack and get to know each other, Clara asked, "So, Lyra, what's your Essence technique? I'm always curious to learn about others' abilities."
Lyra felt a twinge of self-consciousness, knowing that her telepathic abilities were still underdeveloped compared to many of her peers. "I have a form of telepathy," she admitted. "But I'm not entirely sure what it can do yet. Right now, I can only make out general emotions."
Clara's eyes widened with interest. "Telepathy? That's fascinating! I'm sure with time and practice, you'll be able to hone your skills and unlock your full potential."
Lyra smiled, appreciating Clara's encouragement. "Thank you, Clara. What about you? What's your Essence technique?"
Clara grinned, a mischievous glint in her eye. "My technique is called Kinetic Burst. It's a combat-based ability that allows me to generate and manipulate kinetic energy. I'd love to show you sometime, but it's not exactly suitable for demonstrating in our dorm room."
Lyra laughed, imagining the potential chaos that could ensue. "I can only imagine. It sounds incredibly powerful and impressive."
Clara shrugged modestly. "It's taken a lot of training to get to where I am now. But I'm proud of my progress and excited to continue growing."
As they finished unpacking and settled into their new living space, Lyra couldn't help but feel a sense of comfort and camaraderie with her new roommate. Despite their different backgrounds and abilities, she felt that she had found a true friend in Clara.
