Chương 19: Alchemy 101
Lyra entered her alchemy class, feeling a surge of optimism. Alchemy was her strong suit, and she was excited to learn that today's lesson would be an experiment. The professor discussed the elements they would be working with and instructed the students to break out into groups. Unlike her hometown, where classes were small, there were over 120 people in this room, and the professor didn't take the time for introductions.
As the students began to pair up, Lyra looked around, hoping to find a partner. To her dismay, everyone seemed to have already formed groups, leaving her alone at her workstation. She felt a twinge of disappointment, wondering if she would have to work on the experiment by herself.
Just as she was about to resign herself to working alone, a young man with freckles and camo pants approached her. "I see you're new here," he said, his voice friendly and warm. "I have a knack for alchemy. Would you like to work together?"
Lyra looked up, meeting his gaze, and was instantly struck by his pretty eyes. For a moment, she found herself distracted, her thoughts wandering as she admired the flecks of gold in his irises. She quickly snapped herself out of her reverie, realizing she hadn't yet responded to his offer.
"Oh, yes, that would be great," she said, a smile spreading across her face. "I'm Lyra, by the way."
"Nice to meet you, Lyra," he replied, extending his hand. "I'm Elias."
As they shook hands, Lyra felt a spark of excitement. Not only had she found a partner for the experiment, but she also couldn't help but feel drawn to Elias's kind demeanor and striking features.
They quickly got to work, setting up their workstation and gathering the necessary ingredients. As they worked side by side, Lyra found herself impressed by Elias's knowledge and skill in alchemy. He seemed to have a natural talent for the subject, his hands moving with precision and confidence as he measured and mixed the various components.
Lyra was so engrossed in their work and conversation that she forgot to mention her own experience and passion for alchemy. She was content to listen to Elias's insights and observations, marveling at the depth of his understanding.
As the class progressed, Lyra and Elias fell into a comfortable rhythm, their teamwork seamless and efficient. They exchanged ideas and theories, their excitement for the subject growing with each passing moment.
By the end of the lesson, they had successfully completed the experiment, their results earning praise from the professor. Lyra couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and accomplishment, not only for their academic success but also for the unexpected connection she had formed with Elias.
As they packed up their materials and prepared to leave the classroom, Elias turned to Lyra, a warm smile on his face. "That was really great work, Lyra," he said, his tone sincere. "I hope we can be partners again sometime."
Lyra returned his smile, her heart fluttering with a mix of excitement and nerves. "I'd like that," she replied, her voice soft but filled with genuine enthusiasm.
