After reviewing the mission, Xavier decided that his first priority was to level up his Mankey. He knew that Blue, also known as Gary, would be located at Route 22 west of the city.
Before heading out, he entered the Pokémon Mart to purchase necessary items. He bought 6 Potions for 1800 Pokécoins, 3 Antidotes for 300 Pokécoins, and 2 Parlyz Heals for 400 Pokécoins, which left him with only 500 Pokécoins.
Xavier then proceeded towards Route 1 to engage in battles with wild Pokémon. As he approached the area, he spotted both Rattata and Pidgey. Using his "Inspect" talent, he analyzed them and found that most of them were at level 3 or level 2, while a few were at level 4.
Summoning Mankey from the Pokéball, Xavier decided to have his first battle with the nearby Rattata.

As Xavier observed Rattata's information, he learned that not every Pokémon has access to egg moves, and each Pokémon can learn up to 4 moves. Xavier felt disappointed that Pokémon were limited to learning only 4 moves, but he knew there was nothing he could do about it since it was how this pokemon world worked.
"Mankey, use Tackle and finish the battle with Night Slash," commanded Xavier. Mankey obeyed the orders and executed the moves as Xavier instructed. Rattata attempted to evade the attacks but was unsuccessful and ended up fainting.
Xavier then moved on to the next Rattata and engaged in another battle. After successfully defeating 3 Rattatas, Mankey finally reached level 6.
Xavier realized that leveling up was much more challenging than he initially thought.
Xavier continued battling other Rattatas throughout the entire day, and finally, he managed to level up Mankey to level 8. However, he decided to stop because Mankey was exhausted, and he only had 2 potions left to heal him. Concerned for Mankey's well-being, he headed to the nearest Pokémon Center to spend the night.
Upon arrival, he handed over Mankey to Nurse Joy for treatment and went to the room he had booked. Pokémon Centers offered rooms for trainers to stay overnight, and Xavier was relieved to have a place to rest after the tiring day of training.
