((A new quest has been generated.))
'Hm?'
Looking at the sudden notification, Echo opens the Question window, and indeed finds a new entry.
. . . . . .
[Scavengers]
Type : Instance
Description : In a 'un-dying' world (hehe, see what I did there?) where production all but stopped, resources are extremely precious. Scavenge as many as you can. Rewards depend on total score which will be evaluated by sunset.
Objective : Loot / Scavenge resources
Rewards : ???
. . . . . .
'This is…'
He nodded before shrugging lightly. It was a fairly easy quest, since he was about to do so anyway.
But if he could get rewards for greater quantities…
'Store any resources you find into my Inventory.'
Another command was sent to 101 skeletons prowling the city as they killed and collected every 'zombie' and corpse they encounter, which was followed by said 101 skeletons breaking into every building they find, not only storing food, water, tools, etc… but even taking apart doors, windows, and even…
'…'
'I don't need walls…actually, rubble can be quite useful to form a wall.'
He decided not to interrupt the dutiful and hard working bony creatures as they demolished entire buildings right after looting everything within, from carpets to couches, from cutlery to utensils, and stored the rubble into his inventory.
And within mere seconds…
'Three tonnes…nine tonnes…twenty one tonnes...sixty nine tonnes...…four hundred twenty tonnes…'
*crash!* *rumble!*
The sounds of buildings collapsing echoed throughout the city, and one of the few skyscrapers visible suddenly collapsed, making those looking at the source of the loud noise pale in fright.
"Work faster."
Echo didn't bother telling them the cause of the destruction, but it only served to scare those working more, and with fear came higher work efficiency.
Within less than ten minutes, the entire departmental store was ransacked, and everything was orderly arranged in several piles.
Perishables such as fruits, vegetables, etc…
Preserved food such as canned food, packaged food, dried meat, etc…
Drinking water, drinks, fruit juices, alcohol, etc…
Daily consumables such as soaps, tooth brushes, etc…
"You divided them based on usage?"
At the mention of Rei's words, a certain pink haired self-proclaimed genius puffed her curvy chest out in pride.
"Looks like a certain self-proclaimed genius is finally willing to put her 'genius mind' to some use."
Saya's prideful expression froze and disappeared as she hatefully glared at Echo, who ignored her as he walked to the piles.
Then, stretching his hand out, he stored them all in his Inventory.
"How are you doing that…"
Saya's eyes flashed as she realised something.
'So he really is collecting all those corpses? I thought he was somehow destroying them…but he wouldn't destroy food and water and the other stuff…so storing them…like in a game? A separate space? An Item Box? A space ring? A sub-dimension? An Inventory?'
Unaware of her thoughts, not that he'd really care even if he was, Echo ignored the slight shock of the group at his clearly supernatural stunt, even thought he had done it several times before, and walked back to the bus.
"Hmm? Where's all the stuff?"
"Why are you all empty handed?"
The fighters who were guarding the bus, Saeko, Rei, Kohta, Takuzo, and surprisingly, Yuuki, looked at Echo and the people behind him come back without carrying anything strangely.
"Get back on, we still have twenty plus shops to loot."
Honestly, he had no idea why he was even bothering. After all, he already had enough food and water to feed a city for over a week, with his Inventory stopping the flow of time for anything within, and that count was increasing every second, with a hundred and one skeletons takin apart every bricks he lollipop they find.
((A new quest has been generated.))
'Another one?'
Glancing at it, he raised his brows in amusement.
. . . . . .
[Survival of the fittest]
Type : Repeatable
Description : The world went to dogs, or in this case, 'zombies'. While you can certainly protect your group and tend to its needs by yourself, you are no saint. Teach them how to survive, and get rewards for doing so.
Objectives : None (no target selected)
Reward : 1 Lottery Ticket for each target completion
. . . . . .
Right then, looking at the busty blonde who was walking with a cutely silly smile and a skip in her steps, a prompt appeared in his vision.
((Select target [Shizuka Marikawa]?))
'Yes.'
Since he had no idea what 'targets' were, he decided to try it out on who currently seemed to be the most useless person in the group.
. . . . . .
[Survival of the fittest]
Type : Repeatable
Objective : Shizuka Marikawa (23.69%)
Rewards : 1 Lottery Ticket for each target completion
. . . . . .
Looking at the objective, Echo's eyes flashed before he nodded in understanding.
'So that's how it is…'
In a world without law and order, the dark, cruel side of humanity is fully revealed. Thus, to survive in a world such as the one they were in, one needs to possess a certain attitude.
As people born and raised in a civilised, peaceful era, none of those in the group truly new what abiding by the terms 'survival of the fittest' meant. Sure, they might have read fictional books and stories of such worlds, but they never truly experienced the cruelty of such a world after all.
In that case, what Echo had to do was surprisingly quite simple.
'Show them how to survive…it shouldn't take too long.'
He grinned, his lips curling up to form a terrifying smirk, as his eyes rapidly moved to each and every person in the group, adding them all as targets.
And surprisingly, or perhaps, quite unsurprisingly? The one with the highest completion was Saeko Busujima, with a 53.33% completion.
And the second highest and third highest were Rei, with 51.19%, and Saya, with 47.89%.
'I guess seeing your two crushes' dead bodies, and being a genius in your own right, does change your mentalities…'
Thinking so, Echo started the bus, the group subconsciously holding onto whatever they could grab onto tightly as they prepared the, selves for another 'exciting' ride.
*rumble!*
"Next destination, the closest mall."
. . . . . .
. . . . . .
'Hmm…it seems the people of that mall haven't yet arrived here. Or rather, maybe it's the wrong mall? I remember it's in the other side of the river…'
Looking at the empty mall with several corpses lying on the ground with broken skulls, and the members of his group quickly moving around while collecting and piling up everything inside, Echo nodded in satisfaction.
'They are slowly learning, good.'
Although it was only the second destination, even without him speaking, the moment Echo stopped the bus, everyone within had already begun getting off.
And the combatants quickly surrounded the bus, cleaning off all the 'zombies' that were attracted from the noise of the bus engine, while Saeko rushed into the mall alone.
Minutes later, she came back with several marks of blood on her face that also sported a satisfied, beautiful smile, and her affection surprisingly increased by 2 more points.
Then, the non-combatants quickly made their way into the mall, and some of them, the two best friends Misuzu and Toshimi, even dragged all the dead bodies to one side and piled them up for Echo to collect them easily.
'I wonder…'
Looking at what appeared to be the beginning of a survivors team, Echo's eyes flashed as a thought came to mind.
And as if responding to that thought,
((A new quest has been generated.))
Directly opening the Quest window, Echo grinned as he stored the corpses in his Inventory.
. . . . . .
[Survivors' Camp]
Type : Chain
Description : In a world where the end is near and in sight, you can be called a ray of hope. Create a camp of survivors, give them shelter, safety, train them, expand the camp, etc… . And for arch milestone done, obtain generous rewards.
[[Part 1 : Base]]
Description : Every group needs a base. Find one, and occupy it.
Rewards : Unlock Function [Home] | Skill Book [Basic Crafting] | Part 2 of Chain
. . . . . .
'A base…'
Echo's eyes flashed as he tried to recall every place which could be turned into a base.
'Well, by the end of the day, we'll reach the Nurse's friend's apartment. It should work just fine.'
Although it was smaller compared to the Takagi mansion, the group wasn't really that big at the moment anyway.
'And the new function…it should help.'
As he was immersed in his thoughts, Echo was awakened from them by the two sisters Kawamoto and Taniuchi, who nervously approached him.
"U-umm…it's done…"
Looking at the piles of stuff clearly separated based on usage, Echo nodded as he walked towards them and stored them in his Inventory.
"Good job. Now let's go. We need to get it all done by night fall."
"Yes!"
Echo paused as he raised a brow at the sudden, enthusiastic reply, but shrugged.
'Whatever.'
. . . . . .
. . . . . .
*creek!*
The sound of the tires rubbing against the road resounded as the group members grit their teeth, their hearts skipping a beat as they wondered if the bus was finally going to topple, if they, who survived for so long and escaped the hands of thousands of 'zombies', would finally die…
"…"
Echo looked at the 'I accept my death' expressions on most of the group members blankly.
"Get off. Combatants, normal all positions. Teacher, Nurse, fill the bus tank. The others, grab everything you can, and remember to drain all the fuel you can find into containers."
Getting off the bus, Echo waved his hand, and thousands upon thousands of empty containers, looted from nearly fifteen different malls, department stores, shops, etc…, appeared before him.
"Come on, this is just one of the three bunks we're going to stop at. And there's less than an hour to sunset. You want to work in the dark, I got no problem."
Imagining hoarders of 'zombies' rushing towards them in the cover of the night made their skin crawl as the group quickly got off and left to their positions.
Just as Echo was about to check his inventory, which was constantly being filled with all kinds of things collected by his summons,
((Quest [Screw the plot] updated.))
. . . . . .
[[Part 1 : Escape from the Dead]]
((Complete))
[[Part 2 : The Dark Side]]
Objective : Solve the people who have given in to their desires, but with a twist
Reward : Item [Sub-Job Crystal] | 1 Lottery Ticket
. . . . . .
'Ok?'
"Kyaaa!"
"Rei!"
"Let go of her!"
Echo paused, before looking at the source of the noise blankly.
'How did this still happen?'
He recalled something like this happening in the original, but that was when Rei and Takashi were alone together, not when with a group of nearly fifteen people. Plus, didn't he ask them to be on the lookout?
'Idiots…'
Echo sighed as he activated his concealment skills and walked towards the ugly man holding Rei hostage, her neck slightly bleeding from scraping against the knife held against it.
"D-don't move! N-none of y-you move! O-or I-I-I'll kill her!"
'He's so scared it's actually funny…'
The ugly man with a face that would make his own mother flinch in disgust was practically gushing with fear in Echo's eyes. In fact, he didn't even need his 'Sharingan' active to see just how scared he was.
'Well, this is a nice opportunity…'
Stopping when he was right behind him, Echo watched curiously as the group grit their teeth and shouted towards the man, yet couldn't do anything.
'Well now…what do we have here…'
At the corner of his eyes, he saw two people take action.
And surprisingly, the purple haired beauty wasn't one of them.
'Kohta Hirano…and Yuuki Miku…'
The surprisingly able fatty already had his modified nail gun locked onto the man, but due to him moving around nervously with Rei struggling every now and then, he probably couldn't aim that well.
And as for Yuuki…
'Hoh…not bad…'
Echo's eyes flashed as he watched her sneak away from the group, and walk towards where he had been standing previously.
'Looks like she's already dependant on me…'
He recalled what he had seen about her.
. . . . . .
[Yuuki Miku]
Affection : 91
Secret : She lived most of her life in misery, her father a drunkard and her mother a whore. Even her relatives, the few who were still alive, weren't better off. She wanted to be the first in her family to live a better life, but Shido found her a good pawn. When she refused, he started to slowly yet methodically break her mind. For saving her when she was at her most hopeless state, she is fanatical towards you.
. . . . . .
'She's the only one with common sense in the group…'
It was obvious, when you encounter something that you had never experienced before, that you would ask for help from more experienced people.
Yet the idiots here, except her and perhaps the fatty, were just standing there like scarecrows…
"I'm disappointed."
"!?"
The sudden voice, along with him deactivating his skills, made all of them jump, yet Echo didn't give the man a chance to do anything as he stretched his arm forward…
*snap*
For a moment, the sickening sound of an arm being snapped in two echoed, before,
"Aaaaarrrrrggggghhhh! My hand! My hand!"
The man fell on his back as he rolled on the ground, holding his hand which bent in a direction no man's hand should ever bend.
"I'm greatly disappointed. Except two of you, all the rest just froze up like sculptures."
Echo didn't give Rei the chance to stumble away as he held her by her shoulder, and moved her towards the man.
"Rei, isn't it?"
"Y-yes!"
Perhaps because of her near-death or worse experience, Rei nervously answered as her eyes shook at the sight of the man's arm, bleeding profusely with something sharp, white and disgusting sticking out of his arm.
"That man tried to kill you, or maybe he wanted to rape you? Who knows, he may even be a cannibal whose mouth watered at the sight of your smooth skin and tender looking flesh…"
His words, laced with several skills, made her body tremble, Echo's whispers somehow making their way into the ears of others in the group as well as they froze in shock.
"So tell me, what should you do to him?"
"I…I…"
He didn't give her the chance to refuse as he brought Jackal out from the Inventory, and stood behind her as he held her hands with his own.
"What should you do with him?"
He asked the same question, whispering into her ear, as he handed her the heavy black gun, not before holding her hands of course, and slowly guided her to aim at the man's head.
"What should you…"
Before he could finish the question for the third time…
*boom!*
