Chapter 34: What Did You Catch?
---
At the entrance of the secret realm, many were already selling their unneeded treasures to the Treasure Bureau. The sales revealed the level of success each participant had achieved inside the realm.
Some looked ecstatic, while others remained silent.
"Top-grade Cooling Grass, clears burn effects—500 each…"
"Pecha Berry… average quality—300 each…"
Hikaru approached the crowd, spotting several of his schoolmates, including Haruto and his team.
"Alright, Hikaru! Let's see who collected more valuable treasures!" Haruto challenged, his competitive spirit shining.
Though Haruto had lost their previous battle, his pride as a boy drove him to seek victory in another way.
He was confident. With the Viridian Force, he couldn't possibly lose in treasure hunting!
As soon as he entered the secret realm, his Butterfree had lured a local Butterfree, convincing it to guide him to the best treasures. The partnership had been unexpectedly fruitful.
Many onlookers, familiar with the duo's rivalry, cheered them on, eager to see who would win.
"Fine, let's do this," Hikaru replied, smiling calmly.
Some opportunists even started placing bets, though most leaned toward Haruto.
Even the accompanying teachers didn't stop the playful competition. Instead, they exchanged knowing glances, amused by the lively crowd.
"Haruto is skilled in battles and has the Viridian Force. I doubt Hikaru can outdo him in treasure hunting," one observer whispered.
"Yeah, Haruto's connection with nature is unparalleled. He's got this."
"Luo Hoshino, who do you think will win?" asked a mature-looking woman standing beside the coach from Shuimu No. 2 High.
She exuded an elegant charm, with golden wavy hair cascading over a tailored white blouse. Her gold-rimmed glasses added an intellectual touch to her beauty.
"Our school's Hikaru, of course," Luo Hoshino said without hesitation.
The woman raised an eyebrow, intrigued. "Care to make a bet?"
"What are the stakes?" Luo Hoshino asked.
"If Haruto wins, you'll treat me to dinner for a month. If Hikaru wins, I'll do the same for you," she proposed slyly.
Luo Hoshino didn't hesitate. "Deal. Get ready to cook for a month!"
"Oh?" She smirked, her gaze settling on Hikaru. She was genuinely curious about what made this student so exceptional in Luo Hoshino's eyes.
---
The challenge began. Haruto laid out his treasures first.
"Total value: 800,000 Poké Dollars!" announced the appraiser from the Treasure Bureau.
The crowd gasped. Many had collected just a few thousand in treasures, and Haruto's haul was astronomical by comparison.
"Let's see you beat that!" Haruto grinned triumphantly.
Hikaru merely chuckled. "Is that all?"
He began pulling items from his bag.
First, an A-rank Water Stone.
The room fell silent.
The rich, concentrated energy radiating from the Water Stone left everyone speechless.
Even Haruto was stunned. "You've got to be kidding me!"
An A-rank Water Stone was easily worth over a million Poké Dollars on the market.
Hikaru continued unloading treasures without a word, pulling out bottles of Forest Essence and stacks of Light Water Stones.
The appraiser tried to keep up. "Top-grade Forest Essence—5,000 each… no, 10,000… You know what, let's finish this count first."
By the end of Hikaru's showcase, the total value reached an astonishing 3.34 million Poké Dollars.
---
The crowd was left in awe. Haruto stood speechless, his earlier confidence shattered.
Meanwhile, those who bet against Hikaru lamented their losses, some even forfeiting their own treasures to settle debts.
As Hikaru celebrated his victory, Luo Hoshino turned to the blonde woman, a smug smile on his face.
"Well?"
She sighed, conceding gracefully. "Alright, you win. Dinner at my place for a month."
"Looking forward to it," he replied, grinning.
---
After the competition, Luo Hoshino addressed the students.
"The school gave everyone the opportunity to catch one Pokémon during this expedition. If you've caught one, you can either register it with the Pokémon League or offer it to the school. The school will compensate you fairly based on the Pokémon's strength."
"This privilege is thanks to Hikaru and sakura's performance in the high school league."
"Praise to the legends!" someone cheered.
"Man, these two are on another level. I'm crying over here!" another joked.
---
Students began showcasing their catches.
"I caught a Cubone, mid-level Ordinary rank," one student reported.
"Do you want to keep it, or sell it to the school?" Luo Hoshino asked.
"Sell it to the school," the student replied.
"The minimum compensation will be 50,000 Poké Dollars. The exact amount will be determined after further evaluation," Luo Hoshino confirmed.
Another student hesitantly revealed a Grimer. The crowd immediately recoiled, forming a wide berth around him.
---
As more students shared their catches, attention inevitably turned to Hikaru.
"What about you, Hikaru? Surely you caught something amazing!"
Hikaru scratched his head, embarrassed by the nickname "Legend Hikaru." Still, he decided to reveal his catch.
"I did catch something, but you'll need to clear some space. It's a bit… big."
The students and teachers formed a wide circle, about ten meters in diameter.
"Actually, make it wider," Hikaru requested.
He turned to Luo Hoshino. "Could you bring out your Pidgeot, just in case?"
Understanding the reason, Luo Hoshino complied, summoning his formidable Pidgeot to stand guard.
The anticipation grew as Hikaru took out his Poké Ball.
With a flash of red light, a massive blue Gyarados emerged.
The crowd fell into stunned silence, their eyes glued to the towering Pokémon.
