You have been freed from a terrible life at such a young age. I envy you.
But what do you do? Do follow them or me?
...
That's it, that's a smile from someone whose curse is lifted. From now on, you're named Maldeeg... good for you.~
"... ugh!" a youth with messy yet long tied white, gray and black hair woke up on the grass as he held his head. Discomforted by the headache he woke up upon.
The blinding sunlight from the blue sky entered his sight as soon he opened his slightly sunken eyes. He blinked a few times to get accustomed to the sunlight before hearing chirping sounds from the birds from a nearby tree, "...annoying." he muttered as he massaged his head which was still in pain. But as he moved, he noticed something;
"Hm?"
As if it was normal to ignore his headache, he noticed that he was covered in cloth, used as a blanket.
"Boss, you're finally awake."
A voice then rang into his ears. He then rolled his half-closed eyes to the origin of that voice.
"Oh, it's just you, Sam." he then rolled his eyes back, ignoring the man, Sam, who called him boss.
Sam then quieted, waiting for his boss to speak to him.
"Hm... are you the one that put this on me?"
The calm voice that should be comforting to hear took a different sound in Sam's ears. His face then darkened a bit as he answered, "Yes"
His so-called boss then nodded, "Well, thanks to this I was able to get sleep comfortably for a whole night." he said even though he had dark eye-bags just above his sunken cheeks;
"So give me your hand." he looked straight at Sam's eyes.
"Eh?" Sam trembled, his face sweating, as if scared from that simple and harmless words. However, without much hesitation even if reluctant, he put his hand forward, trembling.
"Open it."
Sam's eyes glanced everywhere as he couldn't withstand the pressure from those half-closed lifeless eyes that stared into his. He had no choice but to open his palm.
His boss then took something from his pockets and placed them onto Sam's hand that felt hard and round.
Sam looked at it and it was just a pair of smooth pebble.
"Take it. Don't lose it, okay?" the man he called "boss" then stood up, showing his attire. It was the same as Sam, it was Pentoran High's school uniform.
"Haah~~" he then yawned as he walked onto the shades underneath the tree besides the school building but he stopped and said in a calm, low voice, "...And don't call me boss, I'm tired of it. Especially since the real boss just woke up. You wouldn't want to call anyone else boss in his presence."
"Yes!" Sam answered and then continued, "I am here to report to you about the big boss' orders, umm"
"... just call me by my name or what title the school has given me." the man with a hair that is composed of white, gray, and black encircled the tree, looking for a spot on the ground.
"Okay... Avron..." just saying the name made Sam's lips quivered. One look from a stranger's point of view, he looked like he was overreacting, getting fearful from a calm and weak-looking man.
"What? I didn't hear that?" Avron laid the blanket onto the shaded ground which he found a great spot before sitting down there.
Sam seemed so conflicted over a simple matter as he murmured, "Sir Avron..."
Avron looked at him, waiting but seemed impatient. When Sam noticed the impatient eyes, he quickly took a deep breath and steeled himself, "I have something to report, Sir Wicked."
When Avron heard that, he sighed and commented under his breath, "Acceptable..."
"This is about the guy that is named Renir. He is actually well-known at the school in a bad way, earning the title The Indestructible Wimp."
"Indestructible Wimp? Weird combination." Avron massaged his pained head while listening. Seemingly unconcerned.
"Two weeks ago, he stopped coming to school but just yesterday, he showed up and even attended half of the morning classes."
"Ohh... so where is he now?"
"Umm... he's with the Idol so we lose the chance to get him." Sam's eyes are glancing all over again, signifying his nervousness as he spoke.
"The Idol? Together with someone? That's rare... oh yeah, I'm hungry. Get some to get me breakfast." Avron naturally ordered.
Sam's head then turned to the edge of the school building and signaled with his hands. At the same time, people that hid there, as if that was their base, and watched the two from afar nodded and a couple of them ran to the school canteen.
"So why didn't you wait after they parted?" Avron asked.
Sam had a troubled face, not only because of fear but because he also doubted what he was about to say, after which he answered, "The weird thing is that... they didn't separate."
For the first time, Avron showed an expression, that expression showed he was slightly annoyed, "Haa?" he exclaimed in a low voice, "What do you mean they didn't separate?"
"They didn't separate... they went into the same apartment when we followed them after the morning class. Specifically, the Idol's apartment. After that, both of them never came out. The Idol was absent for half a day and even now, that Renir and her was nowhere here the school."
Avron's eyes slowly opened from half-closed to what eyes are normally opened to others due to being surprised, "....Seriously? Are they dating?"
"Seemed so, Sir Wicked." even Sam scratched his head from this.
"Heh... looks like this Renir got himself a top-class girl and top-class protection." Avron then pondered and whispered his thoughts;
"If only that girl isn't Uncle Ernanfo's daughter, I could've just shot her on the head from day one."
"Should we stalk them 24/7 and kidnap Renir when an opportunity arose? No, that would risk time and the boss seemed like he couldn't wait."
.....
Sam just stood there and waited for Avron to finish his thoughts. His face was twisting into fear and sometimes disgust as he heard the Wicked's thoughts. If somebody else said those things to him, he would just laugh at them for being edgy but the reason he took Avron's words gravely was that the Wicked has actually executed a lot of these similar plans and got away with it because of his backing and mostly, his fearful tactics.
If the Idol can instill the courage to the masses then the Wicked can still fear, that was one way how he shut up the witnesses and even the authorities...
After a few moments, Avron raised his eyebrows as he had an idea, "No... that girl being Uncle Ernanfo's daughter is going to be an advantage instead of its counterpart." he nodded to his ideas, "I could use that... So easy" his whispers were almost inaudible.
"Sam" he called.
"Yes, Sir?" Sam immediately responded.
"Get me a bike, get someone to drive it. I want to go somewhere."
"Okay!"
Seeing Sam straightened himself and just stood there, Avron realized he forgot to dismiss him which he hated doing, "Ah, go ahead. And tell them to hurry up with my breakfast." he waved his hand.
Sam then nodded and ran away.
Looking at the back of his underling as he ran away, Avron rolled his eyes, "It's annoying someone so spineless calls someone a wimp."
Right after Sam disappeared, a pair of a girl and a boy came running towards Avron with plastic bags at hand.
"Finally, food." a slight smile revealed itself from his face while leaning on the tree.
"Here, Sir Wicked." the two respectfully bowed and offered the plastic bags to Avron as if he was a king. Earlier, when they passed by the edge of the school building, they heard from the others that Sam told them to call their boss "Sir Wicked" from then on. So they abided.
Avron took it and when he opened it, it gave him a pleasant surprise, "My favorites. Hm Hm," he pleasantly nodded, "You did well." he then reached out something from his pockets which made the two stepped backward in fear.
"Here take this, open your hands." contrary to their fearful thoughts, Avron just took out a pair of pebble and gave one each. He then said to them;
"Get someone you hate here. I want to get my mood back before I head out."
Both looked at each other, knowing what this meant: Their reward was finally here...
.....
In the luxurious apartment in the middle of the Pentoran neighborhood, Renir woke up to the smell of food. When he opened his eyes, he saw the same ceiling from last night.
The lights were turned off, only leaving the illumination of the night light from the lamp just above his head. As he noticed, he was occupying the whole space of the bed and he looked at his right to see that Imee was not there which he sighed in gratefulness. Looked like she woke up before him.
Since there are no windows there, but in the living room, the night and the day did not affect that room. So Renir had no idea what time he woke up as he sat up, stretched, and yawned.
Accompaning the delicious smell was the sweet humming from outside that reached his ears.
After fighting his urge to go back to the bed, he stood up and opened the door which scattered sunlight welcomed him. He didn't notice that the windows were behind the TV set.
There was a black curtain between the TV set and the windows but unlike other curtains, this one was not curled and looked as if it was just a decorative background for the TV.
The windows are just made out of two glass panes on a sliding frame that was opened. Fresh air entered and made the whole apartment comfy.
Renir remembered what happened last night and it felt like a dream, but also a reality he couldn't find a reason to deny. His heart slowly sunk as he recalled the burden he had, but then he heard;
"Oh Renir, you're finally awake, perfect timing. If only you're not doing well on your lessons, I would've wakened you up in five in the morning."
Renir looked at the kitchen and saw Imee, with an apron on top of her pajama, preparing the breakfast and was about to placed it on the dining table.
Imee looked at him and glanced around, unable to make an eye contact for a while before finally, "Oh, and... Goodmorning." she smiled at him.
After seeing that, Renir's eyes widened in refreshed as the drowsiness disappeared in just a blink of an eye. Without realizing it, he smiled and replied, "Goodmorning."
