Chương 17: Moment of Timelines

2 years after the Old Ones signed the peace treaty with the Necrontyr.

Arlow floated alongside the Halls of Gorthan and the magnificent Council Seats the Old Ones built in the capital world of their empire. He held a silver metal box, with rounded corners, in the air beside him. The box contained an aura of repulsion to it that might affect any other psychic-aware creature in the area. But it didn't affect him, or his silver Immaterium energy.

In recent times, Arlow has spent more and more time outside of the Immaterium. Despite his overwhelming proficiency in manipulating it, his prophetic abilities continued to grow hazy as time passed. A turning point in destiny approached and any attempts at prying information about the future passed this point to prove futile.

He theorized these important moments were like this because of the opportunity cost to see the nearly infinite amount of futures that could occur passed this moment. There wasn't enough energy in the Immaterium to predict an infinite number of outcomes. So, moments like these will exist shrouding everything with a haze.

Yet this ominous sign of great change did not cause him any distress. He had not wasted his time over the past two years.

A new group of Old Ones had formed after the signing of the peace treaty. This group was known as the Council of Trent, a subsidiary council made up of the Honored Ones who were discontent with Arlow's massive presence in the Immaterium. He would be a fool if he didn't take preparatory actions against things they might plot for him.

Slagar was the most hurt by this group, as he was forced to choose between defending his teacher or supporting his student. The decision clearly weighed heavily on him. Despite his training to control his emotions, when Slagar said he was fine Arlow could tell that he was lying. He can always tell when someone is lying.

Speaking of, most of his preparations and research for anything that might occur during these moments of haze were focused on the research of his unique ability. He spent his time completing his research on a way to replicate the events of the creation of the Immaterium. The interaction between his 'thoughts' and the nothingness of the void had sparked the Immaterium to come into existence. He had narrowed the reasons to the 'truth' ability he had always had. Only now, he felt that saying that the ability only allowed him to know when someone was telling the truth was not doing a description of the ability justice.

The 'truth' ability was something attached to his soul. An intrinsic trait of his soul that was unique to him and provided an 'anchor' for 'reality' as long as the trait was directed. This was the only explanation he could come to after much research on the phenomena. It would be easier to say that his 'truth knowing' ability was only the passive aspect of it, which could 'know reality' without knowing directly.

Unfortunately, he couldn't just use this to gain knowledge of reality directly. He had once asked Slagar to tell him random theories and scientific statements that had yet to be proven as if he knew it was the truth. He had hoped to know if his trait would react to these 'lies' if they were lies and use it to help him research the unknown. But sadly, there was no reaction to these attempts.

Regardless, he was determined to understand it. It was this ability of his that had caused the reaction with the void that kickstarted the Immaterium's expansion. After the first spark, the Immaterium continues to expand outward like a wave of firecrackers, each lighting a new fuse in the emptiness of the void. Although he had inadvertently created the Immaterium, it was not under his full authority. The psionic energy of the Immaterium was a combination of a substance in the void he named Mytter and his 'truth' ability causing the first spark.

Even this information and the discovery of Mytter was something that only he himself could research. It could only be found in the void, and he was one of the only ones with a soul dense enough to experiment directly in the void. This Mytter component was not Matter at all, but something like 'Matter that takes up no space'. It threw his current understanding of science completely out the window.

To put it more understandably, The Immaterium is made up of a combination of Mytter and Psychic thought. The ratio of their combination is 1 part Mytter, 60 parts thought, and the Materium is an even lesser degree of the ratio at 1:6000, which came about after distilling Immaterium energy into a lesser dimension. The energy of the Immateirum was ten times more potent than the matter of the Materium.

He had not told anyone about these discoveries, not even Slagar. With his predictions of the future being hazy at best, he would wait until things were more stable.

This brings us to Arlow's current situation, he had been notified by Slagar about him helping stabilize some quantum matter for the Quantum Fortress project, funded by the Great Counsel.

He floated and approached the doors of Slagar's psychic lab in the Halls of Gorthan.

*Swish*

The doors opened smoothly and shut behind him just as swiftly.

*Swish*

The lights were out in the room completely, and it looked like nobody was there. If not for Arlow being able to sense Slagar nearby through the Immaterium he would be just the same.

Sensing something wrong, Arlow quickly dashed over to Slagar's crumpled form, which lay at the center of the room.

*TIZZZZ*

*TIZZZZ*

*TIZZZZ*

*TIZZZZ*

The lights flickered on and all around him Arlow found the towering figures of powerful Honored Ones, locking him in place with a cage of energy. They towered over him along with 15 other titanic war avatars. The Immaterium's power became incredibly thick here and lightning swirled around them all.

"What are you trying to do?" Arlow asked, eyes narrowed.

A familiar voice answered him. He had heard it often accompanying Slagar when he had taught him. It was the voice of Weklor, Slagar's apprentice.

"Don't you know? *Hiss* Great Spirit?" Weklor said sarcastically.
