Looking at their faces and the "dreadful weight" of the situation, Renir found it funny.
"No, Sir Sceke, I'm still alive.", Renir spread his arms to show his well-being.
"Seriously...?", Sceke's mouth was left agape while Old Ze's jaw vibrated when he whimpered;
"Re-really? B-b-but l-look at you! Yo-you're glowing!", the old man pointed his wrinkled fingers.
Hanzee and Ye nodded enthusiastically with full and undeniable support.
"Oh, I plan to explain this from the start.", like a holy being filled with a radiance that came down from heaven, having an immortal body, Renir pulled the sleeve of his now shabby jacket to show more of the light, and said, "I got this from the Water Sentinel."
Still having no understanding, Veronia squinted her eyes and asked, "Umm, how, exactly?"
"I came back to its stomach and drank its energy from within!", Renir proudly exclaimed. Until now, he never had the chance, luxury, or security with many things considered, to be proud of what he accomplished after so many trials and life-clinging experiences. He truly felt he had the privileged to take pride in it.
"No...", Hanzee scratched his head, "... seriously."
Renir pursed his lips and persuaded, "I am serious though."
"Hahaha,", Hanzee clearly forced to laugh, "Seemed like you were easily influenced by Sceke's unoccasional jokes."
Sceke and Veronia just waited for Renir to say the truth. For them: Who would ever go back to where it almost killed you once?
And on top of that, he drank it?
Sceke ambiguously knew what happened to him just after accidentally have a drink of that concentrated energy. He felt his whole body was being pumped by unending air with the stinging pain all over. It was an extremely fulsome experience that Sceke never wants to go back again.
And Renir proclaimed that he went back there?
They were still full of doubts that made Renir sighed. After having thought about it, he realized it really was hard to believe, 'I couldn't blame them. If I were in their place, I would've given myself a cold stare.'
Renir wanted to explain it more to them when his ears twitched.
It was easy to miss but for Renir, it was impossible not to notice.
He knew it was to signal something as he sensed it beforehand like danger, but with his newly gained powers, nothing in Gantlet, except for the demon marionette, could ever pose threat to him.
Renir's body was overreacting. It was still not accustomed to its newly gained power.
When Renir suddenly fell silent, Sceke knew something was up, but never thought that it was threatful.
"Is something wrong?", Veronia asked.
Renir looked at her, "The Water Sentinel, it's here again."
'Something is not right.', Sceke gulped before saying, "It's not simply just here, right?"
Renir nodded, "If I am correct,", he gazed at the window covered by a wall of water he used to protect them from the mindless birds and harsh winds, "It's back with its tsunami like before."
Like a struck of lightning that paralyzed them for a short while, Old Ze was the first the react and hysterically asked, "You're here for a reason, right?"
'You wouldn't put our lives for nothing, right?' was the real question Old Ze wanted to say but couldn't.
This time, Renir was aware of the dangers he would bring if he came back. He wasn't that innocent anymore.
'But isn't it our decision to wait for him?', the old man continued his thought, 'We really messed up...'
"Of course,", Renir wrinkled his forehead, "I thought you all were in danger from the mindless burds so I came back. If you don't want to believe where I got my powers and why I am glowing but it is still real as you can see.", his expression turned calm and confident as strands of water came to his biddings and encircled him with just a raise of his hand.
"Are you saying, you can go against the Water Sentinel and its true power?", while being entranced by the mystifying sight, Hanzee asked the most important question.
"I can use its own power against it.", Renir smiled at them as he placed both his knuckles on both sides of his hips and the strands of water splashed onto the ground.
"Seriously...", Sceke was too flabbergasted that he got stuck with one word to speak, yet, currently, it had a much different tone than before as he sighed.
"Then, I'll be right back.", Renir walked towards them and jumped out to the wall of water then traversed through it without resistance.
"Wait...!", Hanzee reached out his hands but pulled it back right after.
".... he's amazing...", Old Ze exclaimed.
"What a serendipity for the ramification in our decision.", Hanzee couldn't relax yet but tried his hardest to lean on the wall as he sat down, "Does him, returning with powers that could surmount the Water Sentinel within in our expectation?"
He asked a rhetorical question but Veronia answered, "Absolutely not."
"What even led us to unanimously decide to wait for Renir?", Hanzee continued.
"Gratitude", Sceke paused to think then continued, "and guilt, I suppose."
They all equally felt the clenching pain in their hearts from guilt.
But guilt from what?
"Its because we left him here before...", Ye, who was the most innocent but also, the most honest wasn't oblivious to the guilt.
"Then came back, thinking that we saved him but just pressured him.", Hanzee continued, "It is entirely our fault that we met the wrath of the Water Sentinel for coming back here."
"He also saved us, one by one...", Veronia added but thought it would be pointless to continue. It was as if, their minds were on sync as they themselves remember what happened next.
"I want to see how Renir goes against the Water Sentinel...", Sceke whimsically changed the topic since he truly thought it would be a spectacle to behold.
A Rank 7 rune user, still on the thirteenth night was able to defend against the Water Sentinel.
That thought could only occur in fantasies and legends if there were in the land of trials...
While the Pentafive contemplated with each other, trying to figure out their own actions, Renir saw again the towering wall of the flood and the glowing big fish underneath it, the cause of it.
The wall of water conquered his sight, covering the sky and the horizons on both sides.
But now, the fear he had before was gone.
This time, it was not courage that drove him to confront the fish but confidence!
Renir looked at the water he controlled. He couldn't conjure water out of air or nothing but he could only manipulate using the elemental energy.
When his water affinity reached a certain level, he was able to use his own energy as elemental energy or specifically, water energy to call upon the natural laws of water itself and have control over it.
He was even floating, in front of the window, as he stood on the water that kept his balance mid-air.
'Will I defeat the Water Sentinel with this power?', Renir looked at the tsunami and changed his mind. Before he could think of defeating it, he must first defend from its attack.
But it seemed that Renir couldn't control what was already been under control by the Water Sentinel, so he could disperse the tsunami on his own. Also, he couldn't just let it be even though he knew as long as it is water, it couldn't harm him. Sceke and the others will be the ones to be endangered if he just escaped from it.
'I can protect every entrance to the mountain or I could just... stop the tsunami before it could hit the mountain.', not long after this thought, Renir made up his mind.
All these thoughts happened in less than a second.
Unfazed by the strong and harsh wind, and from the mindless birds coming from all directions, Renir placed his hand forward as if a general of a hundred thousand soldiers behind him as he signaled to attack.
The water in front of him rose as fast as it could in the hope to reach the power the tsunami on the other side held.
It was now obvious what decision Renir made.
He chose to fight against the tsunami, disperse it before it reaches the mountain!
Renir's eyes widened when he saw how outrageous his power when the flood suddenly decreased as it surged up on the spot Renir wanted it to!
He even had to tilt his head high to see his own power.
Renir couldn't help but had a satisfied smile...
It was enough to just cover both entrances to the mountain so that Sceke and the others wouldn't be affected but he didn't want that.
He wanted to use his newly gained powers and see it for himself.
And this,
This is the most alive Renir had ever felt!
His heart throbbed, filled with excitement while his limbs gained strength like never before. He was filled with adrenaline!
And the idea to avoid the tsunami reaching the mountain was to disperse it is by creating another tsunami to fight it off!
Fight fire with fire, or in this case;
Fight water with water!
Renir's jaw was dropped long ago with a huge smile on his face.
The water he called had a length of a mountain range and had the height of the sky. It destroyed every water creatures on its path while heading towards its counterpart.
The harsh wind and mindless birds were like a bug that met its blaze. Both were unstoppable!
BOOM!* an explosion that echoed kilometers away.
The explosion created a wind stronger than what the Gantlet had prepared for the thirteenth night. It swept away the mindless birds helpless as it traveled away from the explosion in all directions.
Clouds dispersed in an instant, revealing the sight of the moon.
The moonlight became solitary since both the fish and Renir had their lights vanished at that moment.
The Water Sentinel had used all its energy but the opposite was true for Renir.
Energy was still brimming inside of Renir since the only energy he used was the excessive energy that was trying to escape from him.
Renir looked at the Water Sentinel, he looked at it as if it was now his prey...
