It's been about a week since Magna and his family arrived in Patch. Apparently, a house couldn't be sorted for them because of the size of the family but luckily, Taiyang offered to house them all as Magna's family really seemed to get along with Taiyang and his children.
Waking up earlier in the morning, Magna yawned as he slowly got out of bed. He drowsily walked down the hallway, almost tripping on a few toys before coming to a stop as the sound of someone whistling reached his ears.
As he opened the door to the lounge, what welcomed him was Taiyang, wearing a white apron that said 'Worlds best Daddy!' on it while he was flipping pipping hot pancakes onto a plate. It was honestly a bit weird seeing him cook as over the past week, it was mostly… actually, it was only Emily who cooked their meals.
Seeing Magna at the door, Taiyang showed his signature sunny smile as he said, "Morning kiddo, you're up early. Come and eat a couple pancakes."
Taiyang's smile seemed to bring up Magna's mood as he happily made his way over and started eating the pancakes. With each bite he took, his eyes would shine as he silently thought, 'Everyone who thought Taiyang can't cook were wrong! This man is an artist.'
Suddenly, a small explosion boomed from the kitchen. Magna rushed in only to freeze as he saw Taiyang with black soot on his face while clumps of charcoal lay in the pan.
It took Magna a couple seconds to organise his thoughts as he solemnly nodded and muttered, "I guess he can only cook sweets… when he tries to make anything else, it turns into charcoal."
Taiyang awkwardly coughed a couple times as he wryly said, "I heard that, you know?"
Before Magna could reply, Yang burst into the kitchen with a worried look on her face. She tore the pan out of Taiyang's hand as she harshly said, "Dad! You know you can make anything besides sweets! Let me make breakfast! Just go sit in the lounge so you don't blow up the kitchen!"
Taiyang's brows twitched as he softly said, "C'mon Yang, can't you be a bit more gentle with your words?"
"If I said it gently, you'd try to cook again just to prove you can do it. Just go sit in the lounge, UNCLE." Said Yang as she rolled her eyes at Taiyang, completely ignoring him.
Magna felt awkward as he watched the depressed Taiyang slowly leave the kitchen. He walked up to Yang and cautiously said, "Morning Yang, did you need any help?"
Yang stopped cleaning the pan and scanned Magna for a couple seconds before saying with a smile, "Good morning Magna, if you could, can you help me clean up?"
Giving Yang a nod, Magna quickly started cleaning the kitchen. Once they were done, Yang started to cook some bacon and eggs. However, Magna noticed that as she cooked, she seemed afraid of the oil as she tried to keep the pan as far from her as possible.
Magna offered to help but she shook her heard and said, "I need to learn to cook. Dad can't make anything but sweets and Ruby needs her nutrition to grow. Thanks for the offer, though. I'll make sure to add a little extra in your plate."
Stunned, Magna could only leave the kitchen and sit at the table. At that moment, Yang had an extremely motherly smile on her young face. His heart couldn't help but beat a little bit faster.
'She'll make a good mother…'
Shaking himself out of thought, Magna began to wait for breakfast. As time passed by, more and more people woke up. After about 30 minutes, everyone was up and waiting at the table for breakfast.
Yang quickly served up breakfast, giving Magna a small mountain of bacon and eggs, before sitting with Ruby. Breakfast was relatively fun as the dad jokes went out of control. Yang and Ruby were groaning in embarrassment as Taiyang made a ton of dad jokes while Magna tried to hide away as Joshua straight up tried to embarass him.
After breakfast, Magna was about to go outside when a small missile hit him dead in the stomach. He felt his breakfast try to escape but held it back as he gave the smiling missile a wry look.
Ruby tilted her head seeing Magna's crooked smile as she laughed and said, "Play with me!"
Rubbing his stomach, Magna nodded as he said, "Sure thing Ruby. Just… no more launching yourself at my stomach, okay?"
Receiving a quick 'yes' from Ruby, she proceeded to climb his body until she perched herself on his shoulders as if it were natural.
Just as he was about to leave, he felt a hand grab his shirt from behind. Turning around, Magna gave Yang a curious look as he asked, "What's up?"
Yang gave him a weird look as she said, "Aren't you coming to school?"
Once she finished speaking, Magna abruptly froze. School? Like, the place where you can learn things and make friends? Magna started trembling as he quickly put Ruby down before dashing towards the lounge, leaving both girls dumbfounded.
Swing open the door, Magna stared at his mother with excitement in his eyes as he asked, "Am I going to school!?!"
A soft smile appeared on Emily's face as she happily said, "Yeap, and not just you. Emerald, Argo and Luna will be going with you. Signal has just finished their summer holidays and classes should be starting up today."
"Don't worry about the papers, Qrow has already taken care of all that. Just get ready cause I'll take you guys there soon." Added Taiyang.
Magna jumped around in happiness like a little kid.
School.
In his past life, he never got to attend school because he was stuck in a hospital room.
Apparently, all he needed to do was tidy himself up. Schools in remnant were vastly different than on earth. Here, there wasn't a need to carry books around as they mostly focused on three subjects, combat, weapons and history.
It only took a couple minutes for Magna and the girls to get ready. As they were waiting outside, playing a game with Ruby, Taiyang walked outside with his bright smiling face and said, "Okay kids, who's ready for school?"
With an equally bright smile, Magna and the girls waved goodbye to Ruby as the quickly followed behind Taiyang. It wasn't long before they left the forest yet the thing that made Magna speechless was the fact that Yang loved to stop at every store along the way to do a little window shopping.
He literally had to drag the easily distracted girl along until they came across a huge metal gate that had a sign on it that read, 'Welcome to Signal Academy'.
