i would normally say flygon but james already has pidgeot as a ride pokemon so rhyperior or steelix would be better suited as they have high defenses(his current team lacks a tank)
I'm also uncertain about what ground-type Pokémon James should choose. I would appreciate your opinions on this! I decided to exclude some well-known Pokémon like Garchomp and Swampert, but I included a few that I personally like and believe are strong options.
