"We okay?" Scott McCall muttered with a mixture of disbelief and hope as he looked around.
And it was obvious why. They'd just gotten out of the illusion Nogitsune had created, the goal of which was the unconditional victory of the evil spirit. He was willing to do anything to bring this game of Go to its long-awaited finale.
Cowardice? Meanness? Betrayal? For him, such things were just child's play, because in his eyes, the most important thing was the result. And the result he needed he would definitely achieve, no matter what way. That was the essence and there was no other way for a creature that feeds on chaos, discord and pain.
"Indeed..." Stiles smiled encouragingly, pulling Lydia closer to him.
Such words were not 'typical' for him. But the more he was drawn into the abyss of death, the more he wanted to believe in something. And even so, it didn't diminish his genius and planning.
"K-ha-ak!" came Scott's short exclamation, and when the others jerked to look at him, they noticed that their friend had flown with force into the school lockers that were dotted all along the basement hallway.
"Oh, no..." Lydia whispered quietly, the first to notice who had thrown McCall straight into the school locker, "Now he's here!" she exclaimed, but it was too late.
The second one to get it was Kira, Scott's new girlfriend, with whom they had just started, but because of Allison's recent death, the fire of passion had died down a little.
"This is my game!" Nogitsune said with cold fury, but still calmly enough, and looked at Stiles and Lydia, "You think you can beat me at my own game?" The dark spirit Kitsune continued sneeringly, snapping at the boy and girl as they backed away, remembering the scroll Kira's mother had told them about.
"Divine move, divine move! Do you really think you have any moves left? You can kill Oni, but me? Me?! I'm thousands of years old, you can't kill me!!!" Toward the end of his speech, his voice became otherworldly and frightening, taking on a supernatural quality, but for all that, Lydia and Stiles suddenly stopped.
"But we can change you!" Lydia almost shouted back at him, supporting Stiles, who was getting worse by the minute.
Nogitsune, after taking over the guy's body - separated them and now, to sustain himself the evil spirit of the Fox was absorbing Stiles' energy. And so it would continue until only one of them remained.
"What?" Nogitsune froze in place.
"You forgot about the scroll," the boy replied with venom in his voice, enjoying what he saw in front of him. Nogitsune, who hadn't realized he was trapped, what could be better?
"Perhaps intimacy with Lydia..." The high school student thought for a brief moment, and then chased his thoughts away.
"The Sugendo Scroll," the girl continued in place of Stiles, her trepidation and fear of the creature gradually fading.
"c-change the master..." the Spirit stretched out with realization, and his body trembled slightly.
"You can't be a Fox and a Wolf at the same time," Stiles said triumphantly, and words cannot describe how happy he was to see Nogitsune like this - confused.
"..." the dark spirit Kitsune was about to say something when something sharp suddenly slammed into his shoulder, "No..." he whispered, before Scott McCall, partially transformed into a werewolf, slammed into his arm with ferocity.
"Kgh-haaaaaaahhhhhh!!!" he screamed, frozen as if paralyzed by what had happened, "You...you'll never be able to kill me!" Kira's blade entered his body after the evil spirit had finished his sentence. The girl had already regained consciousness in the meantime and was just waiting for Scott's signal.
The group of four stared at the body, which was a replica of Stiles, as convulsions ran through it and then it began to bend unnaturally. The suffering that the dark spirit Kitsune was currently going through was extremely painful, but no less deserved.
Suddenly, his body froze again. A colored fly flew out of his mouth and rushed away, leaving the unfortunate corridor of Beacon Hills High School, but it was not to be....
*Clap*
"Gosh, Isaac, it's so good to see you, buddy!" Stiles said excitedly in a weakened voice. Now he - as well as all of them - realized that all the deaths this town had gone through...were not for nothing!
Isaac, the young werewolf, had locked the colored fly, which was the carrier of the Spirit, in a wooden box made from the Nemeton, the tree of worlds.
Without the fly, which Nogitsune used to control his body, it would simply crack like parched mud in hot weather and crumble to ashes.
None of the boys would have guessed that underneath those ashes lurked something vengeful and sinister. When dealing with Fox, under no circumstances should you let your guard down.

But, Scott's pack was so enamored with their victory - with a joyous and somewhat nervous smile on their lips they missed the most important thing. How some of the ashes hiding under the stone slab flew around the teenagers and slowly, like a small stream made its way into the body of the real Stiles. Bit by bit until it was completely consumed.
Dark Kitsune's cunning plan seemed to have worked this time....
"Guys," Stiles drew the attention of the others, his weak smile fading from his face, "I don't feel so good..." his body turned paler than before, and he staggered to the floor.
"Something's wrong..." the boy whispered in a low whisper as everyone leaned over him worriedly, "He..."
"What's going on? We defeated him, didn't we?" Scott spoke in a confused tone, trying to understand what had happened to his best friend.
Lydia, as confused as the others, wanted to answer that she didn't know what was happening to Stiles, but suddenly she felt a slight energy surge, and then... after that, her friend's life began to flow away to the side from which they never returned.
The girl's confusion was replaced by fear, anger and despair. She didn't know how to help the boy, how to save him....
"What? He's dying?" Scott exclaimed.
His heart pounded frantically, beginning to accelerate the blood through his body even faster. Lydia's words had struck a nerve. First, he had lost the girl he still loved in his heart.
Then the news that his best friend, with whom he had been friends since childhood, even more than a friend - a brother, not in blood, but in spirit, was dying.
"Kira, do you know what can be done?" Scott asked in a firm voice, but she just waved her head in silent denial.
"S-Scott, I don't..." Stiles wanted to say something with his eyes already closed, but his strength finally left his body and he collapsed.
"No, no, no..." Scott repeated bitterly, while the others just stood motionless, not daring to utter a word. "Stiles, please..." the boy said in a belittling tone and tried to grab his friend's hand as it crumbled to dust.
"What the..." Isaac froze in shock, jar in hand, watching as Stiles's body just crumbled to ashes, and the ashes were carried away by the wind, which was clearly not of the usual nature.
