"Let's go!"
After finishing all his deliveries, Shyam and Raitha made their way to his father's cake shop. It wasn't far from where Shyam lived—only about three kilometers or so.
The shop was designed in a nostalgic 90s style, with decorations that evoked a sense of warmth and comfort, and old-fashioned lighting that gave the place a cozy, almost magical vibe. The moment Raitha stepped inside, her heart was filled with a sudden glimmer of sweetness. The air was thick with the smell of fresh chocolate and baked cakes, a refreshing and mouth-watering experience.
Raitha's eyes immediately started scanning the shop, her gaze locking on the many cakes and sweets on display. Some were big, others small, and all of them were tempting. She could practically taste the sweetness in the air. As she fought the urge to devour every dessert in sight, an elderly man, around 60-65 years old with white hair and a skinny face, dressed in a baker's white outfit, caught her attention.
"Hey, young lady, would you like one?" the old man asked, his voice cheerful and inviting.
Raitha hesitated, a bit embarrassed. "I would, but I don't have any money on me right now."
The old man smiled warmly, sensing her hesitation. "You don't have to pay for it. You're my son's friend, after all."
Raitha froze, shocked that the man was actually Shyam's father and that he knew who she was. She didn't know what to say, but she managed a shaky, "Th... Thanks."
As Raitha took the piece of cake from him, she couldn't help but marvel at how soft and sweet it was. The light chocolate melted in her mouth like cotton dissolving in water, and she couldn't hide the joy on her face.
"So, how was it?" the old man asked with a satisfied smile.
Raitha covered her mouth with a handkerchief, wiping off some chocolate as she prepared to answer. But before she could speak, Shyam suddenly appeared behind his father, looking a little flustered.
"Hey, Dad, I see you've already met Raitha? Got me off the trouble, then!" Shyam said, with a grin on his face, though his eyes showed a hint of embarrassment.
His father gave him a confused look, as if he didn't understand what was happening, before walking off without saying another word.
"Sorry, my dad's always like this. Anyway, did he cause you any trouble?" Shyam asked, his tone concerned as he looked at Raitha.
Raitha smiled warmly. "No, he didn't cause any trouble. Except, he gave me a cake to eat! It was delicious. I have to say, your dad makes tasty cakes!"
The excitement on her face was evident. Her smile was the kind that appeared when someone got to eat their favorite food. Shyam, on the other hand, looked slightly embarrassed. He started looking around the shop as if he was seeing it for the first time, trying to hide something.
Raitha, curious about his sudden change in demeanor, asked, "What happened? Why are you getting embarrassed?"
Shyam's voice cracked slightly as he responded. "The cake... the cake you ate was made by me. I'm still practicing, so I know it's not as good as you're saying it is."
Raitha was taken aback. She hadn't known Shyam could make cakes. She squeezed his hand gently, her eyes full of encouragement. "I'm not lying. It really was great! And I know for certain that you're going to be an amazing baker someday. I'll be happy to eat many cakes made by you, just like today!"
Her words were filled with hope and confidence, and Shyam couldn't help but smile shyly. "Yeah, I hope so."
They spent a while chatting about life and other things. Before Raitha left, Shyam handed her a freshly made cake as a thank-you for coming.
Although she initially declined, Shyam insisted, pushing the cake into her hands as a token of their friendship.
She had no choice but to accept the gift... and, with a smile, she knew that their bond was growing stronger.
