Late Night (Q) Turned to Overnight (Q)
"Shyam! Let's have a study session tonight!"
Raitha's energetic voice reached Shyam's ears just as he sipped his energy drink, jolting him into momentary silence. Her suggestion carried an undeniable enthusiasm, leaving him both surprised and speechless.
"Why do you want to study all night? Haven't you prepared for the upcoming exams?"
Raitha averted her gaze, her cheeks flushed as she tried to hide her embarrassment. She mumbled softly, her voice cracking yet undeniably cute:
"N-no..."
That single stammer ignited a spark in Shyam's chest, his heartbeat quickening. He couldn't ignore the chance to spend more time with her, even under the guise of studying.
Later, Shyam sought permission from his parents, though not by revealing the full truth.
"I'm heading to a friend's house to study. I'll be back very late tonight," he declared, carefully avoiding specifics.
His parents, initially suspicious of his sudden claim of having a "boyfriend," hesitantly granted him permission.
By evening, Shyam arrived at Raitha's house, armed with a pile of books and notebooks. The golden hues of the setting sun and the soft melody of chirping birds filled him with a newfound determination.
Focus on studying, not Raitha, he told himself, though his heart whispered otherwise. Visions of them walking hand in hand and calling each other by endearing names flitted through his mind, making concentration all the more difficult.
When Raitha finally joined him at the table around 7 PM, the sun had long disappeared, and the birds had fallen silent. The eerie quiet outside contrasted with the lively exchange of knowledge inside. They shared tips, solved problems, and surprisingly learned things they hadn't before.

Time flew by when the electricity suddenly cut off, plunging the entire city into darkness.
"Stay here. I'll get some candles," Raitha said, standing up.
But in the pitch-black room, her footing faltered. She accidentally stepped on Shyam's foot and tripped. Instead of hitting the ground, she landed squarely on his leg.
An unexplainable tension enveloped the room. Shyam's breath hitched as Raitha attempted to get up, only to bump into the edge of the table. This time, she fell—straight onto his chest.
Her heart raced. Her face burned with embarrassment. Raitha silently thanked the darkness for concealing her expression.
Before either of them could process the moment, the lights flickered back on, illuminating the scene. Raitha scrambled to her feet, her mind a storm of missed opportunities and shattered hope.
She tried to focus on studying, but her thoughts refused to cooperate. What just happened?
On the other hand, Shyam remained stunned. A girl—a real girl—had just landed on him twice. This was unprecedented. He couldn't bring himself to speak, let alone act normally.
Shyam left Raitha's house well past midnight, his mind swirling with thoughts. He collapsed into bed as soon as he got home, exhausted from both the study session and the unexpected drama.
Half the knowledge he'd crammed was already forgotten, lost in the haze of the evening's events.
