บท 62: Net

Raguel saw the eight eyes of the spider and gazed into the bright violet light coming off of it. From the depths of its chest, Raguel brought out a resilient shout.

"Lotus Solidum"

Raguel's body started to glow a bright blue light that blinded the many eyes of the spider. It closed some of its eyes to counteract the light obscuring its vision. Its jaws still wide open and ready to bite down on Raguel's body.

Raguel bent into a fetal position, and five spikes grew from its body. The points tore apart the silky black strings that were constricting Raguel, freeing it from certain death. The tip continued to grow as the spider's mandibles reached Raguel's body.

One of the spikes directly collided with the spider's jaws, preventing it from closing down on itself. The spider bit down on the crystalline point and bit off a piece but more grew from its place.

The spider was forced to retreat and had no choice but to observe the spikes growing from Raguel. It saw that the spikes were not rough around the edges but had a certain roundness and flexibility to them. It curled a little bit to the top, like a leaf.

The spikes on Raguel's body grew into their final form. The five spikes created a protective barrier on its body. The edges on the spikes gleamed on the dim light, indicating its sharpness. The spider recognized the form that Raguel took; it was a lotus flower.

Raguel was now free from the black strings that impeded its movements. It used this chance to attack the spider while it was recuperating its breath.

Its crystalline fists glowed a bright blue light as Raguel punched it into the ground. Raguel muttered under its breath, loud enough for the spider to hear.

"Solidum Coronam"

A line of mounds grew from the point of impact and propagated towards the spider. It was accompanied by a blue light underground that indicated its progress.

The spider heard Raguel's words too late as it looked down and saw a crystal grow from the ground. In a blink of an eye, the crystal grew into a crown that threatened to put holes in its body.

Its reaction was fast; using its eight eyes that saw the world in slow motion, it motioned its eight legs to move away from the spikes.

It gathered all the strength it could muster to burst out power and dodge the attack. The spider jumped, but it found itself getting pulled back in place.

"Ferali Effusio"

Out from the ground, Azrael's body grew and spoke towards the spider. A small violet ball of gravity grew in the middle of its spiraling horns that seemed to suck in everything in sight.

The spider was caught off guard as it was pulled back towards the crown of sharp crystals with no way to dodge.

The spider could not use the ground as a pivot point because it was high up in the air trying to dodge the spikes. It could not do anything as it collided with the crowned spikes.

*glish*

The spider's carapace was successfully pierced by the crown of spikes underneath it.

*Awooo*

The spider howled in pain as it felt injury for the first time. Anger, shame, and fury filled the spider's mind as it was caught off guard by the two prey inside its dome of advantage.

Its violet eyes shined brighter as it stomped the ground in rage, directing its glare towards the two demons. It shot out multiple black strings from its abdomen, anchoring it to every part of the dome.

Strings were now all over the place, giving off a suffocating feeling of being trapped in a spider's nest.

The spider raised its legs and walked on air using the strings as a scaffolding. It did not take its eyes off the two demons that injured its body.

The strings did not break down due to the spider's weight, making it seem tough and indestructible to the naked eye. It used the string's flexibility to fling itself to the top of the dome without any problem.

Raguel saw this and planted its feet firmly on the ground. It knew that the spider was angered due to their attack, which meant that it would use every bit of its strength to deal with them.

A small stump of thin cartilage grew from Azrael's back. That was the foundation for the wings that were slowly growing back into their useful form and give Azrael the ability to fly.

The spider weaved a wide net on the top of the dome, giving it enough flexibility and strength to carry its force correctly.

It stood on the bottom of the net and started to rear its whole body upwards, creating a spring that would launch the spider towards its two prey.

The springs were stretched to their limits as the spider used all of its strength to prepare for the two demons' attack.

The tension inside the dome was palpable. Raguel had its arms wide open, ready to receive whatever attack the spider would do unto him. Azrael materialized its scythe and pointed it at the top, looking at the eight eyes of the spider.

Silence filled the whole dome as the two demons waited for the horrific attack from the spider.

The tension-filled dome was finally released as the spider was flung down at top speeds towards the two demons. The dome was pitch black, and only the spider's eyes were visible, which made it look even more sinister.

Raguel waited for this moment and used the lotus petals surrounding it to defend itself from the spider's attacks. As another precaution, it curled its fingers into a ball and created another ball of condensed air. Raguel continued to do this as the ball grew multiple times until it was the same size as the spider. Raguel threw the ball as soon as it was ready.

Azrael swung its scythe, and sludge of rotting blades shot forth towards the spider that was coming for it. Azrael continued to make slashes that shot forth multiple cross-shaped daggers.

The spider flew down at top speeds and saw the attacks coming towards it. It grabbed a string in the middle of the air and used it as a pivot point to dodge the attacks, which it successfully did.

The two demons did not seem surprised at how easy the spider dodge their attacks since it was more of a hail mary than a genuine attack.

The spider closed its eyes, making the dome completely dark. There were no more sources of light that would tell where the spider was currently in. The two demons had to look around and sense the location of the spider.

Azrael suddenly felt a force coming from the left and tried to dodge, but the body was too slow. Its body was flung to the right, opening its previous injuries and creating more.

That was not the end as Azrael felt another force coming from the right. Its body was thrown back to where it came from, like a toy that was played with by a kid.

Internal and external injuries were sustained in Azrael's body.

Azrael was thrown around five times until its body was thrown up, towards the net of black strings. Its premature wings could not beat enough power to be useful as Azrael collided with the strings.

When the spider had used it, it seemed like a flexible material. When Azrael collided with it, it was like concrete steel bars intertwined on each other. As its body hit with it, the black string's adhesive property prevented Azrael's body from falling back down.

Raguel did not feel any difference from the surroundings, even though Azrael was being beat down beside it.

Its protective lotus around its body gave it the protection it needed, but there was one flaw; it only protected Raguel's sides.

Raguel suddenly felt a string attach itself to its head and lift it in the air.

Raguel could not do anything but try and cut the black strings, but it was of no use. Its body was flung up where the spider's head was waiting.

The spider did not open its jaws but instead reared its forehead to meet with Raguel's head.

*thump*

A loud muffled sound came from the collision as Raguel's body was flung down due to the spider's force. Before Raguel's body could reach the ground, the string would pull it back up, creating tension around its neck and creating a more significant risk of decapitation.

Raguel's body was like a yoyo that was always pulled down and pulled back up. Raguel could not do anything but to endure the pain in its neck.

After being flung around five times, the spider threw Raguel's body towards the black net that currently held Azrael's body.

Raguel collided with the solid black net, creating further injuries on its body.

"It's nice to see you again, brotherrrr."

"I'll kill....you some....other...time..."

The conversation between the two demons was lighthearted like they were mot on the verge of death.

"Should I do it, brotherrrr?"

"He's too...young...it would...be bullying."

"We have no choice, brother; our bodies would be destroyedddd."

"I don't...want to...do this...but fine...I hope...I don't....destroy...the kid....controlling...the spider..."

บท 63: Touch

The spider looked towards the two demons trapped in the web of black strings up in the ceiling. It smiled, delighted at its triumph against them.

It raised its abdomen high in the air and shot forth black strings that continued to restrict the two demons' movements.

It took its time and relished the fact that it was on the verge of winning. Azrael was beaten black and blue, panting for air and a chance to recuperate from its injuries. Raguel's blue luster was beginning to dull, obscured by the cracks in its skin that propagated all over its body.

It bent its body low and launched itself in the air, using the strings as a foothold. It traversed the air, holding the black lines with its legs and using it as a launcher.

It reached the top of the dome, planting its body upside down. It walked on the net of black strings constricting the two demons and opened its jaws wide with the full intention of biting their heads off.

It was disappointed to see calmness in the eyes of the two demons. When a person faces certain death in its hands, that person would usually display fear and resentment. They should be begging for forgiveness or curse their hearts out, but the two demons did not show any of those; they did not have any emotions.

The spider ignored that fact and just assumed that as demons, people lose their sense of self-preservation.

It walked towards Azrael and eyed its prey. It opened its mandibles and tried to bite its body.

Suddenly, Azrael displayed a burst of power and was able to dodge the spider's bite. The spider was only able to bite down on the black strings that constricted Azrael. It did not know if that was a coincidence or a well-planned dodge.

Azrael gathered rot in its hands and severed the strings that kept it stuck on the web. Gravity took over as Azrael's body started to fall on the ground.

The tiny wings on its back tried to flap as hard as possible, but there was not enough drag to keep its body afloat.

*boom* *crack*

Azrael's body collided with the ground, accompanied by the sounds of bones breaking. The fall looked intense. Coupled with the injuries it sustained before, the spider was surprised that the demon did not shout in pain.

It looked down towards Azrael and found that it was still alive, although barely. Judging from its injuries, it could not walk, nor could it stand up to escape from its clutches. It decided to ignore the incapacitated demon and focus on Raguel that was still on the black web.

It walked on the web with such precision that it could reach Raguel's body at top speeds. It knew that Raguel may still be hiding enough power to try and escape like Azrael, so it did not lower its guard.

The spider observed every little movement that Raguel made, calculating its plans to kill its prey safely.

It made its decision to wrap Raguel's body with more silky black strings to ensure that there would be no more shenanigans taking place.

Knowing that Raguel was securely restrained, the spider began to approach the demon. It used its two pegs on the front to poke the monster, provoking it to display any emotion. It did not work as Raguel still revealed a carefree face with no troubles whatsoever.

It walked around Raguel's body, ensuring that it had no way to escape. It opened its jaws wide and took a bite. Its mandibles were about to reach Raguel's head, but it suddenly felt something was amiss.

The spider was forced to retreat its head and look down on the danger. It saw Azrael with its scythe, slashing towards it and releasing a thin blade of rotting sludge.

This was the attack that the spider saw multiple times from Azrael. The problem with this attack was it was too small and too weak. It could not feel the aura of death that it could preciously feel.

Its mind told it to pay no heed to the attack since it was too weak and its carapace would be able to repel the attack, but its instinct told it otherwise.

The spider knew that the two demons were too smart and too carefree to launch a half-hearted attack without any ulterior motives.

The sludge came towards the spider at top speeds, making the spider think twice about its actions.

Launching a black string would do no good against that sludge of deathly rot, and weaving a wall of strings would take too much time.

If the spider were to dodge, the rotting sludge would collide with Raguel's body. The sludge would probably rot the black strings that constricted its body, therefore, freeing it from captivity.

If Raguel and Azrael were to work together and unleash one final suicide attack, the spider would not be confident in surviving.

The only solution it could think of was to use its legs and try to tank the attack, ruining whatever Azrael had planned.

The blade of sludge reached the spider's body and was swatted away by its two hind legs. The spider was glad that there was nothing special about the sludge, which meant that it was only a ruse.

The spider quickly turned its body towards Raguel, but it was too late. It felt a cold and soft touch in its chest, with no force whatsoever.

The spider felt confused. Raguel had successfully caught it off guard, yet it did not take this chance to deal damage to it. It brushed away that doubt and opened its jaws to finish the demon once and for all.

Its mandibles opened wide yet closed once again. The spider felt its power draining from within the deepest part of its heart. It started to lose control of its own body, letting go of the strings that kept it afloat.

The spider fell towards the ground while its head was full of doubt and confusion. Was there a skill that powerful that a soft touch could make a person lose its power?

It tried to gather the strength in its body, but it was of no use; the spider continued to fall on the ground.

As it looked up on the ceiling, it saw Raguel looking down at it with a strange face. If the spider's sight was correct, Raguel was displaying an emotion.

The normal emotion after outsmarting someone would be joy and delight. It could even be anger at the main perpetrator for their wounds, but that was not what Raguel was displaying.

Raguel seemed to display a sense of pity.

Before it could even try to deduce the face of mercy in Raguel's face, it felt sleepiness take over. It was starting to lose its consciousness, and before its body hit the ground, the spider was incapacitated.

*boom*

The spider's humungous body fell face flat on the ground, unmoving and unconscious. A crater was created in the environment due to the spider's weight, which meant that it suffered a good deal of damage from falling at that height.

Azrael propped its body up using its scythe. It had trouble just standing up, an indication of the tremendous amount of injuries sustained from the battle between them and the spider.

If Azrael was alone, it was not confident in getting out of the fight with its whole body intact.

It dragged its feet towards the gigantic body of the spider, taking its time as it did so. It was confident that whatever happened to the spider would last for a long time.

After reaching the spider's body, it extended its hand and reached out onto the spider's chest.

————————

In a dark place, a man was in a fetal position covered by some protective layer made of black powder. Upon closer inspection, one could see that it was Isiah who was in a cocoon.

Isiah was unconscious until a tremor woke him up from his slumber.

The cocoon opened up, and Isiah's eyes showed themselves to the surroundings. His suit was still neatly intact, and his hair was in perfect condition.

He looked around and saw a desert of black powder extending to the horizon. The sky was dark, yet there were small violet light sources that gave him clarity; they were stars in the night sky.

He did not remember where he was previously and how he ended up in this place. His strange surroundings were unfamiliar yet comforting at the same time. It felt like this was his home, his territory, and his safe place.

Without knowing why he was here or where he was, he started to walk in the desert of black powder. The black powder was like sand, it spread on his feet as he stepped on it.

Another earthquake hit the ground, shaking him to his core. He did not know what those earthquakes were, but he did not like it at all. It felt like he was being invaded.
