บท 7: Entrance Exam (2/2)

-----Testing Location C-----

With maybe 5 minutes left of the test, I was still soaring through the air above the testing location. So far I had helped quite a few of the examinees, receiving mixed reactions.

One girl I had helped, who had orange haired tied into a side ponytail, gave me a giant thumbs up, literally since her hand was enlarged into a enormous size. While another one, a black-haired, boisterous dude this time, shouted about how it was unmanly to be flying around instead of fighting with my fists.

In response and to show him that I wasn't just a one-trick pony, I flew down and let loose a thunderous punch that blew apart a 2 point robot with a single fist. While I usually wouldn't try to 'kill steal' when helping the examinees, I wanted to show off a little to the guy who just said I was 'unmanly'.

The guy stared back slack jawed, before he began screaming about how manly that was. I grinned and threw him a thumbs up before flying off to help others.

I was mid flight, hovering over the city when in the distance, a loud boom resounded through the battlefield. I turned in that direction to see a colossal robot towering over the city, slamming into the buildings around it.

"That has to be it... the zero point faux villain!" I breathlessly spoke, admiring the colossal 'gimmick' wide eyed.

I chuckled mirthfully, "Finally, a worthy opponent! Our battle will be legendary!"

I flew in the direction of the zero-point faux villain, my psychic sense picking up several students who were currently running away from the gigantic robot.

My hand reached out, willing my psychic energy to envelop the monstrous construct. As I was high up in the air, I wasn't concerned that the robot might attack me, unless it had some ranged weaponry I didn't know about or if it threw something at me. And even then, my barrier wasn't something to be looked down upon.

However, when my psychic energy surrounded the colossal titan, I could instinctively feel it without even trying - it was too heavy for me to lift up. It had to weigh at least a few thousand tons.

'So that... is the limit of my Psychokinesis. Well, good to know.'

I swept my psychic sense past its thick, metal plating, examining its internal circuitry.

'It's too dense...' I realized. The robot's armor was too thick for me to just crush it with a phantom hand. Perhaps if I concentrated my psychic energy into a single point and rammed it through like a spear, it might work, but something like that would take everything out of me and I wasn't sure if there were no other surprises following this enemy.

I analyzed it for a couple seconds, absentmindedly swatting my hands while telekinetically moving people out of the way of the robot's rampage. Then, I had an idea.

'If I can't move it's entire body, I just need to concentrate on one part of it!' I concluded, before willing my psychic energy to wrap around one of its arms.

The faux villain's right arm froze in the air while it's body continued rampaging through the city, a strange sight to see.

Furrowing my brows in concentration, I willed the psychic energy enveloping its arm.

The faux villain's massive, titanic arm swung. Not in the direction of the buildings around it or even at any examinees currently scrambling out of the way of the robot. Rather, it's arm swung into its chest, a thunderous boom reverberated through the cityscape.

When the arm was lifted, a heavy dent could be seen in the faux villain's chest.

The robot didn't even seem to notice that one of its arms could not be controlled, as though it was not programmed to determine what to do if it lost control of one of its appendages.

The arm swung down again, caving into the faux villain's chest once more. Then again and again before a hole was finally blasted into the torso of the robot.

I willed its hand to reach forward, reaching into the open torso and had it rip out a fistful of the revealed internal circuitry.

It was a gruesome sight to be sure; a colossal robot reaching into its own chest and tearing out its own internal circuitry. But it was an effective measure.

As the bundle of cables, electronic parts and motherboards were torn out, the robot that had been rampaging violently sputtered into a stand still. The red glow coming out of its head dimmed before the faux villain stopped moving entirely.

It was a motionless, colossal titan, towering over the city that had froze mid-action. One arm high up in the air, gripping a handful of internal circuitry, while sparks flew out of the exposed torso.

I smiled at the sight, wiping away a bead of sweat that had formed on my forehead, nodding in appreciation at my handiwork. Then I spread out my psychic sense, to see if there was anyone trapped underneath the rubble from the robot's initial rampage.

Finding one, I flew down and lifted up the large chunks of debris that had caved in on a girl, a black haired beauty that looked to be semi-conscious.

I was worried that she might have sustained a head injury from the debris, so I landed next to her and lifted up her head, "Hey, are you okay?"

"H-huh? What happened?" She blearily asked, trying to sit up.

"Hey, hey, it's okay. The building collapsed on you, and I think you might have suffered a head injury. Just try to relax and I will bring you to a doctor." I explained, trying to stop her from moving around too much.

"W-wait, is the exam over?"

At that moment, a loud voice distinctively belonging to Present Mic shouted, "And... IT'S OVER!! Examinees who are uninjured, please make your way out of the testing location. If you are hurt and require medical attention, stay where you are. We will send medical staff to where you are!!"

I shrugged, "You got your answer."

She looked crestfallen, "Damn it, if not for that zero-point robot, I could have gotten a few more points!"

I tried to give a comforting smile, "Well, what's done is done. What's important now is to make sure you're okay. Hold on a moment."

I swept my psychic sense through the testing location, searching for the medical staff Present Mic had spoke about and found someone I recognized.

"Hang on, I see Recovery Girl somewhere over there. I will bring you to her." I said, letting my psychic energy wrap around the injured girl.

"Huh, what are you- whoa!" She exclaimed as she was suddenly lifted off the ground.

"Don't worry, it's perfectly safe. I promise to be gentle." I cheekily teased her, ignoring the blush that appeared on her cheeks and flew towards Recovery Girl, bringing the injured girl with me.

I landed next to the short, elderly woman who was handing out gummies to the examinees near her. She spotted the injured girl I had brought along with me and gestured for me to approach.

"Are you injured? Poor child. Come here, I will make you feel better."

I levitated the injured examinee in front of Recovery Girl, "I think she has a head injury. A concussion maybe."

The old lady nodded appreciatively and I watched her bend down and give a smooch on the girl's forehead. The girl's head glowed slightly before focus returned to the girl's eyes.

"You should be fine now, but head injuries are more complicated. Make sure to get lots of rest and don't do anything too strenuous."

"I- I feel better. My head no longer hurts." She commented, before sitting up straight and picking herself up.

She approached me and thanked me, "Thank you for your help."

I smiled in response, "Don't thank me, thank Recovery Girl instead. She's the one who healed you."

"Ah, of course." She turned back and bowed at the old lady, "Thank you madam!"

Recovery Girl waved her off, "No need, no need. Anyone else injured?"

The girl turned back to me and extended her hand, "Thank you for helping me."

I shook her offered hand, "Like I said, no need to thank me. Just happy to help."

"Regardless, you didn't have to bother but you did. For that I am grateful. My name is Kodai Yui what's yours?"

I blinked at the girl's serious demeanour, "Kurogami Yasuo. Pleasure to meet you."

"Likewise, Kurogami-san. I hope to see you in U.A.." She remarked before walking away.

Wow, a real-life kuudere, I observed. My eyes unconsciously fell towards her shapely rump that was nicely shown off by a pair of tight, form-fitting sweatpants before I shook my head and tore my gaze away. No sense in being called out for perving no matter how natural it was.

As I similarly wanted to fly off towards the exit, I noticed a crowed was forming around me.

"Hey, you- I mean, excuse me. Are you the guy who was flying around throwing robots around?" One of them, a brawny looking teen, asked.

I tensed my body, ready to form a barrier at a moment's notice if these guys were looking for trouble. "Yeah, why?"

He walked up to me, his large physique an intimidating sight for anyone else other than me.

"You... Thank you!" He shouted before bowing in gratitude.

His attitude that was in such contradiction to his thuggish appearance surprised me, "Ah, uh, no problem man. Happy to help."

"Ah seriously, I was in real trouble there. I was getting ganged up on by two of the damn faux villains. Then you suddenly swooped in and, I don't know how you did it, tossed one of them into a wall and gave me the chance to counterattack. Really, thank you!"

I scratched my cheek in awkwardness, now feeling slightly bad for judging him by his appearance. U.A. had such a strict criteria for good behavior records, it made sense that there wouldn't be any thugs or delinquents who could make their way all the way to the practical exam.

"Me too, me too! Boy was I surprised when the robot that was holding me down was suddenly lifted into the air. You really saved my bacon, man. Thank you!"

A few others similarly spoke out about their experiences, leaving me embarrassed and suddenly being the centre of attention. I was not unfamiliar with being in the spotlight, since as the ace and captain of my middle school's soccer club, I was often in the limelight being cheered on by my teammates and schoolmates alike. But getting thanked for saving someone, that was definitely something I never experienced before.

Thinking about how I should respond to the outburst of gratitude from the crowed, I searched through my memories on how pro-heroes usually handled it.

I gave my brightest smile and lifted a thumbs up, "We're all here to become model heroes. So no need to thank me, truly. I just did what any hero would have done."

A wave of admiration swept the crowd, and a familiar orange haired girl stepped forward, "So you are the type of people we have to compete with in U.A. huh? How discouraging." She teased.

I rubbed the back of my neck chuckling, "Well, all we can do is try our best. Things will work out one way or another, right?"

"Easy for you to say, with such a powerful quirk. Kendo Itsuka, by the way. You helped me out too just now."

"Kurogami Yasuo. Your quirk looked powerful too, Kendo-san. I saw you smashing your way through the robots like they were paper."

"Heh... quite a flirt aren't you? And you can just call me Itsuka." She lifted an eyebrow.

She's teasing me. Huh, how straight forward. "That was nothing, you haven't seen me flirt yet, Itsuka-chan."

She laughed at that, a pleasant melodic laugh.

The rest of the guys around us looked at each other, eyelids twitching, "I know he helped us and all. But seeing him flirt with her so openly and right in front of us like that kinda pisses me off."

"I know, right?" Another agreed.

Somehow, I managed to garner the resentment from the guys who were watching us.
