"No!" Jestner yelled in a sudden reaction, witnessing Max in the image gently stepping on the door panel, carrying the entire building.
Jestner seemed to hear the door opening. In the next moment, the building, now missing the door panel load, swiftly plummeted into an unknown abyss.
Layer by layer, in just a few seconds, the entire building vanished.
Jestner clenched his fists, staring at Max in the image, unaware of Max's actions. The door on the ground rapidly shrunk, transforming into the same size as an ordinary door within moments.
The door autonomously closed and then disappeared.
The ground returned to its original state, devoid of any trace of the door. The only noticeable change was the absence of the building that once stood there.
"What is he saying?"
Jestner looked at Max, who hadn't left immediately but spoke to the camera. He turned to the person beside him and inquired, "What is this? A code?"
"A phone number."
Without hesitation, Jestner took out his phone and dialed the number. After a few beeps, the call connected.
"What the hell are you up to!" Jestner roared in anger.
"So furious? How about joining me for a cup of tea?" Max suggested with a smile.
"Location!"
"I believe you can find me." Max ended the call.
"Find his location immediately!" Jestner bellowed after putting down the phone.
Within two minutes, Max's location was pinpointed through monitoring.
It was a bustling coffee shop.
"Everyone, get ready to move. Surround this coffee shop, and inform the sniper to get into position!" Jestner ordered, and the team quickly set off.
As Jestner opened the door and approached the coffee shop, Max in the corner waved to him.
"Over here!"
Jestner scanned the surroundings; there were at least a dozen customers in the shop, and Max's position was in a tricky spot, making it challenging to target.
"Damn it!" Jestner cursed silently, taking a seat opposite Max.
Max flashed a smile and graciously poured a cup of tea for Jestner. "I'm a man of my word. If I invite you for tea, I intend for you to enjoy it. Give it a try and savor the taste!"
Jestner took a deep breath, placing his gun on the table but refraining from touching the tea. "Your plan is to coerce me into releasing the prisoners, isn't it?"
Max observed Jestner and remarked, "Judging by your expression, it seems you won't be releasing anyone."
"Yes, Lorna is a criminal who attacked the Sentry Secret Service, or the leader of a terrorist organization. There's no way I can let her go like this. I won't yield to your threats!" Jestner asserted firmly.
Max grinned, "You said the same last time."
"Terrorist organization? Do you believe that? Apart from the instance when Lorna attacked your augmentation convoy, rescuing Mutants from your clutches, they haven't committed any acts of terrorism. They acted out of retaliation against your actions towards Mutants."
Jestner remained silent, showing no signs of wavering.
Shaking his head, Max continued, "You don't care whether Mutants are good or bad. Your goal is to eradicate them. I don't concern myself with whether what I'm doing is right or wrong. My goal is to rescue Lorna. Moreover, constantly threatening you is not my only option. I apologize for giving that impression, as if I can only resort to threats. So, feel free to leave after finishing this cup of tea. Let's each pursue our objectives with determination!"
A threat is only as potent as the strength backing it.
Max had proven he could act, not merely intimidate. Jestner, faced with the abandonment of such a straightforward threat, found himself somewhat unsettled.
Just as Jestner was about to lift the teacup and take a sip to compose himself, a deafening noise erupted from a distance.
In the next moment, a sloshing sound followed, and the glass windows of the coffee shop shattered.
"Earthquake?"
"Run, run!"
In the midst of panic, the patrons of the coffee shop fled in disarray, seeking refuge from the unfolding chaos.
Jestner, caught in the tense situation, instinctively raised his gun, aiming it at Max. "What have you done?" he demanded, his voice betraying a mix of confusion and accusation.
"It's not me," Max calmly replied, shaking his head. He nonchalantly sipped his tea, then carefully placed the cup back on the table. "Looks like you've got another task on your hands. Goodbye."
With those words, Max rose from his seat and headed towards the exit.
Jestner, torn by hesitation, followed him outside. As soon as they stepped out, they were met with the sight of a nearby building in apparent collapse. It resembled a school building.
Then, unexpectedly, a sharp gunshot pierced the air. Jestner turned swiftly to see Max, not far away, squinting as he approached a door that had materialized in front of him.
"No, sniper, retreat!" Jestner urgently shouted, sprinting toward the location of the sniper. As they reached the spot, the sniper lay on the ground, a smooth arch has appeared on his chest. His internals can be seen but strangely, the heart was missing.
"It's gone..." The onlookers couldn't help but gasp in shock at the surreal and disturbing scene unfolding before them.
