Roxanne knew that, with Nosepass's speed, dodging that attack was totally impossible, so she decided to receive it and take advantage of that moment to giver a heavy blow to Bulbasaur.
"Pass!" - said Nosepass.
Then he did the same as when he used Rock Throw, but this time the rocks were bigger and faster than before.
"Dodge it!" – I said.
But I underestimated the speed of the rocks and Bulbasaur couldn't dodge them in time causing both attacks to hit.
Nosepass was entangled with numerous vines while Bulbasaur was sent flying, taking a big damage from that attack.
"Are you okay, Bulbasaur?" – I asked.
"Saur!" - Bulbasaur nodded.
"And you, Nosepass?" - asked Roxanne.
"Pass!" - Nosepass nodded.
But suddenly, the vines glowed and drained life from Nosepass, then a ray of green light hit Bulbasaur recovering her wounds a bit.
"This is bad..." – Roxanne said.
Now that he was covered in vines, if Ash's Bulbasaur resisted long enough, her victory was assured.
"We won't give up, Nosepass, use Rock Tomb again!" – Roxanne exclaimed.
Again, huge boulders headed at a great speed towards Bulbasaur.
"Now, yes, dodge them!" – I said.
But when Bulbasaur went to move, she realized that her speed had slowed and she couldn't dodge all the rocks causing one to hit her.
"Bulbasaur!" – I exclaimed.
"A side effect of Rock Tomb is that it slows down the movement who is impacted" - Roxanne said.
It's true! How could I forget something so obvious? No, it's not that I forgot, it's that I thought that in this world that side effect didn't apply, but I was wrong.
In that instant, the vines drained some of Nosepass's strength and gave it to Bulbasaur who now felt better than before.
"I may have forgotten that, but it doesn't mean we've lost, Bulbasaur, use Energy Ball!" – I exclaimed.
Bulbasaur nodded and threw a green sphere straight towards Nosepass.
"Break that sphere with Rock Tomb and finish her!" – Roxanne said.
Nosepass nodded and destroyed the Energy Ball with its rocks causing a small smoke screen to rise.
"Now, Bulbasaur, use Vine Whip against the ground!" – I said.
The only way to make up for our lack of speed was this, was to devise a way so that Nosepass couldn't launch his attack, and what is his weak point? That's right, Nosepass can move his face sideways, but I've noticed that he can't look up, so that's the way to hit an attack on him.
"Saur!" - Bulbasaur nodded.
Then, Bulbasaur used her Vine Whip and rose a few feet into the air by getting on top of Nosepass.
"Is that possible?!" – Roxanne exclaimed in surprise.
In all her years as a gym leader, she'd never seen a strategy as crazy as that.
"Energy Ball and finish Nosepass!" – I exclaimed.
Bulbasaur nodded and threw a powerful Energy Ball toward Nosepass.
"Nosepass, use Tackle but up!" – Roxanne exclaimed.
Nosepass used the powerful strength of his legs and propelled himself upwards with the intention of hitting Bulbasaur.
"Too late, the Energy Ball will hit you!" – I exclaimed.
"And who said I wanted to dodge it?" – Roxanne asked.
"What?" – I asked confused.
I underestimated the strength of Nosepass's legs, because in the blink of an eye, he was already at a considerable height and hit the Energy Ball head-on, causing a strong explosion that sent both Pokémon flying.
Due to Nosepass's proximity to Bulbasaur, the blast wave also reached her and so she was sent flying.
"Bulbasaur! Are you okay?" – I asked.
"Saur!" Bulbasaur nodded.
But she was struggling to get to her feet, as apparently the shock wave and the impact on the ground had damaged her quite a bit.
"Nosepass! How are you?" – I asked.
"Pass..." – said Nosepass.
Nosepass could barely get up, but the next moment, the vines drained what little strength Nosepass had, causing him to fall to the ground fainted and, at the same time, the vines disappeared without a trace.
"Nosepass fainted, Bulbasaur wins, and therefore the winner is Ash from Pallet Town!" – exclaimed the receptionist.
For a moment my mind went blank, have I won? Did I won my first gym battle? Have I taken my first step as a Pokémon trainer? My mind couldn't process it for a few seconds, but in the end I realized the truth, I had won and it wasn't a dream!
"We won, guys!" – I said while hugging my Pokémon.
"Congratulations, Ash!" – Celeste said.
Due to the joy of the moment, I let myself go and gave Celeste a big hug that lasted several seconds.
When she was suddenly hugged, Celeste was surprised, but she didn't try to get away, in fact, in Ash's arms she felt safe, as if nothing could hurt her, it was such a pleasant feeling that she didn't want it to end...
"Ehem, I'm sorry to interrupt your flirting session, but let me congratulate you for your victory" – Roxanne said.
