บท 8: 6. A strange Miltank
Two girls and a young boy were standing in a clearing with a thick jungle surrounding them, but some mooing could still be heard in the distance. The two girls were staring at the boy, mouths hanging open and eyes widened. The boy looked back at them with a determined and unyielding gaze that did not suit his age. These kids were naturally Robert and his two sisters, Sasha and Stephanie.
Currently, his two sisters were staring at their brother in shock and horror at the revelation that Robert just revealed to them. They themselves knew truly little about what happened that night. Seeing their confused looks Robert knew they wouldn't let it go now without knowing the whole story. Only Robert, Dennis, Mariah and another farmhand that Dennis trusted knew everything that happened that night.
Dennis had strictly forbidden anyone else from knowing and they were not to talk about it. This made it a bit hard on Robert as he really needed someone to talk to about it, but he could understand why his father forbid it. Unfortunately, no matter what he did he couldn't forget it. Lately, he has even been having nightmares. After holding it in for a bit over two years now he really couldn't keep it in any longer. Stephanie and Sasha were bound to find out anyway, he was just telling them a little in advance. Reassuring himself like that Robert started to tell them the story of that night.
At their farm, all the Miltank and Tauros are bred, hatched and raised on the farm itself. Miltank are kept, becoming part of the herd. Low talent Tauros are raised to either help farm security or sold in town to trainers. Any higher talent Tauros are to be used to reward any particularly loyal and dedicated workers or sold in town for a high price.
One Miltank that was hatched two weeks after Robert turned 3 was a bit odd. It was blue instead of pink. When the family first heard about it they thought it was odd, but no one thought much about it, except 2 people. Those two were Robert and Dennis, but they both reacted in very different ways.
On the morning that the Miltank hatched, the farmhand that was looking after the eggs that day, Kurt, come to the house to tell Dennis and Mariah. The family was just finishing breakfast and so were all together and naturally, they all heard what Kurt had to say. The three girls were just puzzled to hear about a different colour, Dennis however adopted a grave face and started to release a stern air. The girls quickly noticed Dennis abnormal behaviour, Sasha and Stephanie were confused and a little scared. Mariah was surprised at first but then also turned a little graver. It had been a long time since she had seen her husband like this.
Before anybody else could say anything Roberts excited voice sounded "really Kurt, are you sure. This is awesome! Quick we gotta go look". Before anybody could react, he was already out the door running toward the barn yelling "let's go! Let's go!" the whole way. The rest of the family and Kurt didn't pay too much attention to Robert's reaction. They were all already used to Robert's enthusiasm for Pokémon and his tendency to overreact to anything that involved them. What everyone else was more concerned about was Dennis, only Mariah had seen him like this before.
Dennis noticed that Kurt was nervous and his two daughters were even a little scared by his sudden shift in attitude, he did nothing to dispel their worries though and simply looked at Kurt and said, "show me". Kurt could tell this was not the time for nonsense and quickly turned around and led the way. Robert was already at the barn waving at them to hurry up as they exited the house. After they all made it over Robert could tell his family was acting a bit odd but paid it no attention, he was more interested in the Miltank.
He quickly turned his attention to Kurt looking at him with pleading eyes and the cutest face he could muster. Unfortunately for him Kurt mostly ignored him and led the way into the barn, quickly taking the family into the barn and upstairs towards the hatching room where the newborns and incubating eggs are kept. Robert quickly followed them in and didn't complain, after all, what he wanted most right now was to see that Miltank. When they all made it to where the newborns where they could see little beds made of hay with baby Miltank on them in a waist-high pen together, same were even up and playing together.
Kurt led them past the little pen of baby Miltank to another smaller pen further down. In this pen was a cute little blue Miltank, only it was all alone and it seemed to have some bruises on it. Seeing the Miltank the first to react was Mariah, who quickly went to check its condition. Mariah was actually a Pokenurse, as good as any Joy. She was the one that checked on all the Pokémon at the farm and made sure they were healthy. This saved them from having to use money to hire one from the city to come to them.
After Mariah, Sasha and Stephanie also walked over with worried looks seeing the cute little baby Miltank was hurt. Robert who was bursting with excitement when he first saw the Miltank quickly calmed down seeing it was hurt, he knitted his brows and looked at Kurt "hey Kurt, how did a baby Miltank that was just hatched get hurt already". Hearing Roberts question the two sisters looked over, also wanting to know. Mariah also perked her ears up to listen.
Kurt looked at them awkwardly, after all, he was in charge here when it happened so it could be considered his fault. Just as he was going to explain himself, they all heard Dennis speak out "it was the other baby Miltank wasn't it". Kurt quickly swung his head to Dennis and cried out in shock, "how did you know". Everyone was astonished to hear that, they all turned to look at Dennis.
Since first laying eyes on the Miltank, Dennis had not moved them away for a moment and seemed to get more graver the more he looked. Mariah had finished her check-up and was now walking back with Sasha and Stephanie in tow, she was also looking at Dennis with a confused look. Dennis, without taking his eyes off the Miltank asked "how is it". Mariah still confused by her husband's behaviour, still answered "she'll be fine after a bit of rest" Dennis finely looked away from the Miltank and took in all the confused looks he was getting at the moment, sighed and muttered under his breath "this is going to be trouble".

DoctorDraco Changed my mind on the low talent Tauros being raised for meat. There are still going to be people eating Pokémon but its not going to be anywhere near as common as I originally intended.
