บท 27: It's time to pay up

The forest in front of them stretched to the realm of the unknown. It was as huge as it was mysterious. Yet one thing was certain, presented as a definite fact, there was a bunch of high-level beast located in this vast unknown and each of them possessed killing intent that was faintly undertoned with the piercing roars they released.

Azazel could not be any more reassured of the imminent danger he was about to face. this scenario was awfully familiar now that he thought about it. The scarlet dragon mountain range similarly had a bunch of profound beasts that he indeed fought to the death. Yet, the only difference could be the probability that this time he will be put against monsters who have an elevated strength, at least a tad bit above his own if cultivation is the sole factor put into strict consideration.

This was a mountainous region; innumerable hills that weren't too tall spread throughout the entire field of vision. The area was colored with green, however, even such a bright color could not hide the noticeable air of desolation and murder.

"Chief, I presume that you know the location of the trials right? because even if I read the novel, there were no exact directions that lead the reader to the exact spot."

" I beg to differ" Chief narrowed his eyes at a particular direction within the inner layer of the forest " we are not attempting the trial yet little boy. Remember those bandits the main character had to face after obtaining the Phoenix power? mhm, you are going to fight them."

"fight who? I thought we were here for the trial chief. I mean it was the purpose for this whole visit wasn't it?" Azazel frowned in thought, wondering what brought about this change.

"And you were correct to think that way. The trial is the greater, paramountly important purpose for this visit, yes. However who said that we can't have a lesser purpose as well?" chief wiggled his fingers in attempted mockery, continuing on with his revelation " you see, Azazel Vanir Astraph, you made a deal with the devil in order to heal that princess of yours. It's time to pay up. Follow yours truly closely."

After moments of analyzing possible routes, he could take, chief began walking a certain direction, leaving the sulking Azazel to follow closely behind.

"Do you want me to tell you a story?" chief asked while navigating his way through the congregation of rocks and grass.

"sure, go ahead. Not that it will save me from my impending doom" Azazel rolled his eyes and crossed his arms in defiance, clearly not pleased at the circumstances.

with amusement twinkling within his eye, chief began "now-now, chillax, you will do perfectly fine. anyways, once upon a time, there existed this man who used to live in the ancient civilizations where there was not the proper integration of rules that shaped the lives of the people. So as you can imagine, almost anything goes within that time period. The spoken language was English by the way. Anyhow, this man one day decides to go hunting in an auspicious location where, as he was told, the likelihood of coming back alive is almost none existent."

Chief paused, looking at Azazel for any signs of disinterest. Surprisingly, however, the boy was listening attentively, seemingly intrigued by the story. And so he continued telling the tale at a much slower pace this time.

"so he made a deal with his best friend, telling him that if he goes into that forest and comes back alive, his best friend must pay his child support fee, which was basically a bunch of bread and providing a rooftop for the wife and the kid. His best friend accepted the offer, and the man set off to this so-called auspicious location. Things became pretty much eventless after arriving. This location was apparently a forest that was completely shrouded in darkness. The heights of the trees hindered the rays of light from entering and served as a perfect navigating tool for animals. Then, moments after, the trees released some form of gas that further marred the vision of the man, causing him to lose his sense of sight. But oh, that was not all. The gas was of mysterious origins, and upon interacting with his nervous system, it rendered him unconscious instantly. "

"time passed, and unknown to the man, approximately 500 years went by in a flash. He woke up from his slumber only to realize that the forest did not look the same, the initially towering trees were all gone. His own body was covered up by leaves, thus forbidding anyone from recovering his body in the passing of time. The man exited the forest only to see a brand new world before him, completely different from the one he used to see. The wilderness was replaced by buildings and cars. After some time consulting with the people who spoke English, he had no other explanation for this phenom other than the simple yet unbelievable fact that he has just slept for more than a century. The man then decided to learn about this current civilization, its rules, and regulations. What he read appalled him, unfortunately. Killing was not allowed, there was no eye for an eye and tooth for a tooth, none of the stuff he is used to practicing in the past. So the man decided to forget these rules and lifestyles, instead choosing to do what he has always done, believe what he has always believed."

" so one day, someone steals from him in pure daylight and tries to run with the goods. The man, however, though not. He took out the knife he always carried on his body for self-protection, and stabbed the thief in the heart with one quick motion, killing him. The man then proceeded to look at the people who stared at him in awe, disbelief, and fear, wondering what brought about the reaction. Someone called the police, and I think you guessed what happens afterward."

Chief breathed in a gust of air, refilling his lungs after the overly extensive story. He then looked at the little boy who seemed lost in thought, having not fully integrated the whole story within his subconscious. Chief waited for about one more minute before asking with interest " so Azazel, what do you think of this man? "

Azazel tapped his chin, thinking about a possible answer before responding carefully. " I think he was a fool, naive, and arrogant to believe that he could do as he wished without following the rules of the civilization at the time. It was in his best interest to adhere to them anyway, it's not like he was going to lose anything in doing so."

" A fool huh." chief narrowed his eyes, the mirth could not be any more apparent within his voice. " I congratulate you, dear partner, for effectively describing yourself."

Azazel's mouth hung open, shame flooded his veins as he realizes that the man in this story closely resembled him. He, too, refused to assimilate to the rules of the murderous world that was against the gods.

" we are here." chief pointed at a particular spot just outside of the gathering of trees. There, within close proximity of their current location, 10 massive tents were filled to the brim with people, bandits from the looks of things.

"well then, go ahead."

"no need to remind me twice." Azazel closed his eyes and made no further movements. His originally slumbering energy made a full circulation within his profound veins and slowly began wrapping itself around his body.

It will be a waste of time if he was to engage in a proper fight with these bandits, might as well charge up an AOE attack and surprise them.

The luminous, scarlet energy around him intensified at a discerning pace, prompting Azazel to extend his hand forward. All of the energy originally surrounding him dispersed and congregated on his palm, inducing the creation of a massive ball roughly 15 inches in diameter and 10 inches in height.

The bandits were naturally clueless of their impending defeat, for the trees served to hide the creation of the massive spirit ball. It was not until Azazel floated out of the forest to gain more leverage did they lay eyes on him, alas it was too late.

In one swift motion, Azazel threw the gigantic spiritual ball right in the middle of the gathering of bandits, fueling a massive explosion that sent all enemies within the immediate vicinity to lose consciousness immediately. Even the leader(forgot his name, but it is irrelevant since he got slumped instantly) who had higher cultivation than the rest, entered the realm of dreams without knowing what exactly hit him.

The little boy landed slowly on the scarred ground, analyzing the enemy only to notice in relief that they were still breathing.

"Finished. We are heading to the trial next right? I want to leave this place as soon as possible."

Chief's usually emotionless face twisted to form a devilish smiled as he closed his eye. " we are not done here, boy. I want them dead."
