"Hay baby why don't you walk by again. Mmm... I love to watch you walk away!" I say to the busty blonde passing me in the hall.
My boys laugh as she turns to me holding out her middle finger with a "screw you!"
"Promises promises!" I smirk at her as she walks away.
"You're a pig!" Mindy says getting into her locker.
"You're just mad you ain't my mate girl... besides." I pin her to the locker and she looks up at me. "You know better than that. I'm a Wolf!" I flash her my sharp K9s and she looks down.
"Sorry Alpha." She mumbles and I let her go.
I'm not Alpha... yet. My dad is and I'm next in line but at school... I am the Alpha!
"Dude I think she wet herself!" Tray says laughing.
"Maybe." I shrug and grab my stuff.
"Would you really do anything with a girl who isn't your mate?" Matt asks.
"Listen I turned 18 a couple months ago and every pack around here sends their kids to this school... if she were here I would have found her." I say. It sucks both of these guys found their mates on there birthday it's not fair I'm still waiting.
"You didn't answer his question." Tray says stopping me from walking to class. "Are you gonna wait for her?"
"Yea... I mean I'm not gonna fool around with any wolves but I could date a human girl while I wait." I tell them.
"Not that any girl around here would have you!" Tray laughs elbowing me on the ribs. "They all think you're a jerk!"
"I could get any girl in this place! I just haven't went after any of them." I defend myself. I mean Yea I make some rude comments but it's just a joke. I see them staring at me. If I tried I could pick up any girl.
"Prove it!" Tray says looking around. He points to a girl down the hall. "Her... make her want you by the end of the week. Bring her to the grill on friday and we'll believe you!"
I look at the girl. She is about 5'2" and kinda nerdy. She is cute but definitely not like the blonde from earlier. She's more modest.
"Her name is Devon. Really smart doesn't really date anyone... she's sweet." Matt says looking at me and then Trey. "She's a nice girl you shouldn't do this Ryan."
"If he is as good as he says he will... or maybe he's just chicken... you've never had a girlfriend Ryan. You scared you won't know what to do? Or you just scared she'll reject you?" Tray keeps pushing me.
"I'm game... friday right?" I say.
"You got it!" Tray grins. The bell rings.
"Great now we're late!" I say and we run to class.
At lunch I find Devon. I pull her into the hallway just after she gets her food.
"Can I talk to you?" I ask. What have I gotten myself into.
"Well you already pulled me out here so why not?" She seemed irritated. I run my hand through my hair. Why am I so nervous I don't even like this girl.
"Sorry... it's just... I'm not doing to great in my transitions math class and I heard you were like really smart so I just wanted to know if you'd be willing to help me out?" Her jaw drops. The silence is killing me as the seconds tick by. "I mean I know alot of the girls hate me... but I could use the help." Its true actually. I took transitions to college Mathematics to avoid pre calculus but haven't been paying attention. I wanted an easy year as a senior but I completely stopped doing my work and it has come back to bite me.
"They don't hate you they just think you're a dog." Devon says. I feel myself growl. Being called a dog is probably the biggest insult to a wolf but a human wouldn't know that.
"Please don't call me that." I say looking away.
"Fine. Sorry... I can meet with you after school tomorrow and I'll see what I can do." She says.
"Thank you." I nod and walk back into the cafeteria.
After school the boys and I sit on the steps deciding what to do.
"We could go to the beach." Matt suggests. It's the middle of the school year so January. It's colder than summer but for a wolf it's still plenty warm around 70 degrees today. We like going swimming in the winter because we can avoid the humans.
"Sounds good! The usual spot?" Tray asks.
"Yea!... I just hope none of the other packs cross our borders." I say and we head to the car.
There are three other packs nearby. The school is neutral ground but my pack land comes close to it. The beach we swim at is near the school on our land. Alot of the kids go there to swim. Dad doesn't mind because as he says "they aren't hurting anything." But I don't like it. It makes us look weak. My dad is a tough Alpha most of the time and the other packs fear him. I'm not saying he's a bad Alpha I just disagree with him letting them invade our beach.
"You are so uptight about that! I'm sure no one else will be there this early in the year." Tray says.
We drive to the beach. Boxers make decent swim shorts so we don't even bother going home first. In no time we are in the water... yea maybe it is still a little cold but not bad enough to complain. Mostly we race each other. The waves make it harder but I've lived here all my life so I've learned to work with them. Never underestimate the ocean tho. It can take you for a trip you are not prepared for.
About a half hour in we are greeted by the silver star pack. About ten teens ranging in age from 15-18 guys and girls here to ruin our fun.
"You're on Blue Creek territory! Turn around!" I yell coming out of the water. Tray and Matt follow me.
"We're allowed here and you know it so back off Ryan!" One of the guys says.
"Stuff it Jack! We were here first and it's our land so just walk away!" Tray yells.
"No we want to swim! We outnumber you so why don't you just scurry on home!" Jack responds. I go to punch him when Matt grabs me.
"Do you want to start a war?" He asks in a whisper.
Jack is Silver Star's next Alpha and an all around pain in my neck. Fighting him could bring about a pack war. Not that they are a match for us but there would be death and I don't want to cause that. I growl at him and walk away. We grab our clothes and walk down the beach further into our territory.
"I can't believe we just walked away!" Tray yells.
"Its for the best." Matt tries to calm him.
"You know other packs run off intruders!" Tray continues to yell.
"What do you suggest we do?" I ask. I see a devilish smirk cross his face.
"You know I heard some guys will mark a girl and run off." Tray suggests.
I can't believe that! Marking someone that's not your mate? It ties you to them how will that run them off?
"You're nuts! Marking someone as your mate ties them to you it doesn't drive them away!" I tell him. Tray laughs.
"You are so naive my little Alpha!" I growl at him and he holds his hands up.
"Ok listen Ryan." Tray starts up again. "It only ties you to her if she marks you back. If she doesn't it's just really embarrassing for her. She gets all emotional for a couple of days and then the mark fades... but if you do that I can promise you she will never cross the border again."
"That doesn't help us with Jack." I say.
"The girls stop coming the guys will too." Tray assures me. Well if it won't really hurt her and will stop them coming I'm game.
"Do it then." I say to Tray.
"No way man Nicole would kill me for marking another girl!" Tray is right. His mate, Nicole, would not like that at all. I look to Matt.
"Marked man here!" He says pulling the collar of his shirt to show May's mark on his shoulder. "Couldn't do it if I wanted to... also I think it is a bad idea!"
"Come on Ryan it has to be you! Get them off of our land Alpha!" Tray says.
I'm not sure I can do this. We lay above them looking down the beach. I see many of them in the water then one girl comes out laughing. She grabs a towel and starts drying her hair.
"Nows your chance! Just run away before she bites you back or you're stuck!" Tray pushes me. I get up to a crouched position ready to run.
"Who is she?" I ask stalling for time.
"Not sure... she's in our class tho." Tray says.
"She's Jack's little sister... they are twins." Matt says. Hu? I guess I just never paid that much attention to the other packs... you know other than the Alpha heirs because I know I'll have to deal with them alot.
"Even better! Hurry up Ryan before someone else comes over!" Tray hisses.
I'm still not sure about this but Tray says she will be fine so why not?
I bolt towards her. Taking her in my arms I bite her at the base of her neck above her collar bone. I can taste her blood and hear a gasp of pain as I retract my teeth and run back to my friends. Tray is rolling in laughter while Matt looks worried. We dive into the car and I drive back to the pack house.
"Oh my Ryan! You should have seen her face! She was so shocked and when she looked up her K9s were out! She was about to mark you! Good you got out of there when you did!" Tray laughs as we pull up to the pack house.
"Hello boys." I hear my dad say as we enter.
"Good evening Alpha Rhydian." The two whipped pups beside me say.
"Hay Dad." I nod at him.
"Messing with Silver Star again?... their Alpha is ticked. Won't tell me what you did but please don't start anything." Dad says.
"We didn't. They showed up at the beach and threatened us telling us that ther outnumbered us so we should run along home... we just showed them who's land it is." I tell him.
"I don't care if kids swim on the beach." Dad says then sighs. "But threatening my son... I guess I can't really punish you for defending yourselves... no more fights boys and I mean it. I don't like getting calls from angry Alphas while I'm trying to work."
"Yes Alpha." We all say... ok so maybe I'm whipped too but Dad isn't going to run me to death or make me sleep outside or tread water all night or any of his other "fun" punishments. If showing a little respect gets me off I'm all for it!
"Go to bed boys... and remember I don't want any more angry calls." Dad tells us.
With a "yes sir." We all run off to our rooms.
"That was close!" Tray whispers as we ascend the staircase.
"Right?" I'm as surprised as him. Matt just stays quiet as we enter our separate rooms and go to sleep.
