Capítulo 3: New schedule

The regular folks didn't really care about what year were they in, season was the only thing that mattered. Marcus originally thought that the long-lasting summer was just a metaphor for peace in the world of Ice and Fire, but no. George RR Martin just fuc*ed the entire astronomy in the a*s. The year was 293 A.C and it has been a year since he arrived in the Citadel. Now he was twelve years old and a well-known person among his peers.

What others thought about the Order of Maesters and what the truth was, was two very different things. The Order only preserved the knowledge, but it did not add anything to it. It was in an always stagnant state. Also, only a part of the knowledge was shared with the students, while the most part was kept for only the higher-ups. It was a very sad situation, that saddened Marcus greatly.

But as the people know, every bad has some good in it. The first 4 subjects were done in the first half of the year, and it was extremely funny how easy they were, but there was some fishy thing in history class, that bothered him greatly. There was some clear indication, that most of the knowledge was kept away and some were changed. In the other half of the year, he picked up music, anatomy, medicine and healing, poison, and warcraft. Marcus never learned these in his previous life, so he couldn't really do anything beside study furiously in order to complete these classes. They were hard, unlike the previous 4 he picked. And while he was successful in achieving these, he had to spend every waking hour learning. It felt like an entire lifetime.

The rivalry got fired up during his short stay at the Citadel, as he easily made a record of eight links in one year. Albert, who was a noble's fourth child from the Reach took that challenge very seriously. In spite of the age differences, Marcus and Albert got along very well, and they became very close friends with each other. Now at the beginning of another year of learning, Marcus had a lot of plans that needed completion. Not everything was about only getting enough links. The books that only the council of the maesters were supposed to read, were the thing Marcus wanted the most.

---On one of the mornings of 293 A.C---

Marcus just got out of his bed, when he heard a knocking sound. He quickly cleaned his face with cold water from a bucket that was beside his bed and opened the door. At the entrance of his room stands his best friend. Albert had red hair that reached his shoulder, with bright green eyes. He was about 5,5 feet (170cm) that towered over Marcus's 5,2 feet height. There was three years difference between them as Albert was fifteen years old and just arrived at the Citadel about 2 months ago.

-Get ready and let's go to practice! I can't wait to finally start learning something psychical again. I can't stand to only sit all day long and do nothing but reading.-

Marcus and Albert a few weeks ago got to know that one of their friend who was studying with them was the son of a swordmaster. So they nagged him until he promised to have his father teach them in the way of the sword, and for his help, they help him with studying.

-What time is it? There is dark outside and the sun is nowhere to be seen.-

But as he just said that the sun's first rays arrived at the room, coloring the whole cabin. Marcus couldn't help but sigh and get up. The first practice was supposed to be in sunrise and here it. God how he missed the clock.

-fuc*, lets go-

---In one of the back yards ---

Both Marcus and Albert got a practicing sword. It seemed like their friend's father was quite a wealthy individuum. Normally only the lords and very rich merchants had that in order to have their kids the best training possible. Swords were quite expensive and if you didn't have a blacksmith friend then you had to loot it off from dead soldiers' hands.

The swordmaster had a school in Oldtown where the talented and the wealthy could learn for the right amount of coins. If their friend's father didn't love his son so much, then they could only dream about becoming a swordsman.

After a few hours of practice, the three friends were on the dirty ground, one of the three was sitting on the ground while the other two were laying down and gasping for air. Marcus and Albert's friend's name was Bernard. He was abnormally tall and bulky, most likely from the training he did since he was little. It was a mystery why did he not become a swordsman, but he will tell them when the time will be right. He was at least 5,8 feet and had short brown hair with kind-looking light brown eyes. He was 15 years old like Albert and just arrived a month ago.

With a grin, he looked down at his two friends who looked like they had the most physical training in their life ( with was true). Marcus was in the worst shape as he was much younger than his older friends. After they got their breath back, they left for a quick shower at the water source that was nearby, to clean themself and to make them ready for the rest of the day.
