Capítulo 44: Unlucky
With their enchanted glasses concealing their identities, the trio roamed freely through the bustling fair. Laughter and the tantalizing scents of food filled the air as they continued their exploration, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere.
As they strolled along, Emily's eyes lit up with excitement when she spotted a massive Ferris wheel in the distance. "Look! There it is! The wheel from Azurdale. I've always wanted to ride it and see the view from up there. Shall we give it a try?" she asked, her voice filled with anticipation.
Alex's gaze followed Emily's pointing finger, and a flicker of nostalgia danced in his eyes. "You know, my father once told me that he proposed to my mother on a Ferris wheel just like that," he shared, a wistful smile gracing his lips. The memory brought a mix of joy and sorrow, reminding him of the love he had lost.
Jiten and Emily exchanged a glance, their hearts going out to their friend. Though they couldn't fully understand his pain, they knew the significance that such memories held. Jiten stepped closer, placing a reassuring hand on Alex's shoulder, while Emily gently squeezed his hand, offering silent support.
However, as Emily said, "Forget it, I didn't want to ride it that much, let's find something more fun!" and started to pull Alex in the opposite direction of the Ferris wheel, Alex, determined not to let sorrow consume him, took a deep breath and turned to Emily.
"No, Emily, let's not give up on this opportunity. I want to see the city from up top," he said, his voice filled with determination.
Moved by Alex's resilience, Emily nodded with a small smile. "Okay, if you want to go, let's go!"
But as Jiten observed the long queue for the Ferris wheel, a mischievous idea formed in his mind. He noticed that all the people in line were couples, and he sensed an opportunity for a little lighthearted mischief.
The wheel was always moving at a constant speed, so to get on, they had to hop into a cabin while it was in motion. When it was finally their turn, Jiten, seeing that Alex and Emily had already entered a cabin, pretended to stumble and fall, making it look like he couldn't make it in time. Seeing his plan succeed, he entered the next cabin.
Alex looked back in concern, but Jiten was already in a different cabin. Reluctantly, anticipation building, they began their ascent.
As the Ferris wheel continued to move, lifting them higher into the sky, Alex couldn't help but feel a mix of excitement and nervousness. The world below gradually transformed into a breathtaking panorama of lights and colors, the city revealing its grandeur from this elevated vantage point.
A gentle breeze caressed their faces as the cabin swayed, creating a sense of tranquility amidst the bustling fair. With each passing moment, Alex felt a weight lift from his shoulders, replaced by a newfound sense of freedom and possibility.
Beside him, Emily's eyes sparkled with wonder as she took in the view. The cityscape spread before them, alive with the vibrant energy of its inhabitants. The distant sounds of laughter and music intermingled with the gentle creaking of the Ferris wheel, creating a symphony of joy.
"I'm glad we didn't give up on this," Emily said, her voice filled with gratitude. "The view is incredible, and being up here with you makes it even more special."
Alex smiled, his heart warmed by Emily's words. "I'm glad we're experiencing this together too. Sometimes, it's in moments like these that we find solace and strength."
As the Ferris wheel continued its rotation, Alex looked at the view and said, "I think I know why my father asked my mother to marry him in one of these." Emily smiled and asked, "Why do you think that?" Alex smiled at her and said, "Because this is kind of romantic." As he said that, Emily's cheeks turned a shade of red. Seeing her reaction, Alex also blushed, and to prevent an awkward silence, he asked, "So... are you excited to go to the end of the year dance with Max? I heard he is very popular with the girls."
Emily looked down and didn't answer. Alex continued to try to strike up a conversation, "It must feel good, being invited on the first day. I wish I was that popular!"
Finally, Emily decided to speak. "You are! I know a girl who would like to go with you..."
After hearing that, Alex smiled and grew excited. "Really? Who is she? Is it one of those friends you are always with? What were their names?"
Emily became nervous and asked, "Who, Lily and Sarah?" Alex remembered their names and said, "Yes! Lily and Sarah! They are beautiful." Emily seemed angry and said, "No, they already found someone to go with!"
"Dammit, so who is she?" asked Alex, looking as though he had lost something valuable.
"No one, forget it," said Emily, looking angry.
Before Alex could ask why she was angry at him, the Ferris wheel stopped abruptly. The sudden halt caused the cabin to sway slightly, catching them off guard. The lights on the Ferris wheel flickered for a moment before coming back on, but the ride remained motionless.
A crackling announcement came through, informing the passengers that there was a technical issue and that they would need to wait for assistance to fix the problem.
Alex sighed, realizing their luck had taken a downturn. "Looks like we're stuck up here for a while," he said, trying to inject some humor into the situation.
Emily's anger melted away as she joined in the laughter. "Well, at least we have a great view," she replied.
